Excellent read

Fast paced. Main character has a witty sense of humor. While his serious side scrambled to make sense of everything and yet he misses the most obvious clues of his smirking part time secretary.

Only thing is I KNOW he would've screamed like a girl

OMG! Hysterical! Going for a rat and having a body come at you Cracked Me Up! Only thing is I KNOW he would've screamed like a girl! Lots of tweaks made it most excellent. Too bad is such an idiot...or is it just being a male?!?

Jack is the anti-hero we all need

I started this series with one of the later books and had to go back to the beginning. Jack McMorrow is a great character. He has morals aplenty but lacks basic common sense at times. He's scrappy and resilient and I just adore him.

In this first book in the series, Jack is just beginning to flex his "not on my watch" muscles. Bad things happen, good people let them happen, and Jack gets annoyed/involved. This time it's a photographer on his newspaper staff who is found dead and no one, besides Jack, seems to want to know why.

I didn't figure out the whodunnit so the ending was one heck of a shocker!

I loved the narration in this novel. Smith takes extra care with his performance, even using special audio when characters are talking on the phone. It's the always the little things that make a story work and Smith pays attention to the details

I'm looking forward to book two.

caution - part spoiler

I won't recapitulate the story line, as previous reviewers have done a nice job of this. Overall, I found that there were at least 2 blatant coincidences, i.e. Adele taking an interest in an eight year old shoe shine boy (Johnny) in her neighborhood, who happens be the son of Emily Smith, who is really Emily Yates, the daughter of one of the slain writers. Finally, we are told that Johnny is the biological son of Raymond Ambler's son who is currently incarcerated. Even though Raymond visits his son in prison, they are really estranged from each other. I find it difficult to believe that John, (coincidental name) Raymond's son would not have told his father earlier on that he had a son mothered by the daughter of a famous crime writer, especially since Raymond is the curator for the library's crime fiction collection.

I liked the ambience of the book - the description of the iconic Beaux Arts library, with its white marble faade flanked by the lions, Patience and Fortitude, the green oasis of Bryant Park, and the description of some unforgettable restaurants/bars in Manhattan. They served as a good backdrop for the pall of the initial 2 murders, the third predictable murder and the unexpected climax. I found it, however, incredible that Ray, even with his 20 years of experience with tai chi was able to avoid the punches of a seasoned gangster like Dominic.

It seems as though Ray and Adele are going to adopt Johnny, but maybe we will find out more in a 42nd street library sequel. Personally, I think Ray has eyes for Lisa Young...

Dissappointing

I really wanted to like this book. Too many subplots, erratic characters and too many coincidences made it difficult to get through.

Thoroughly engaging plot, with well- drawn characters despite very complicated relationships.

Awful narration.

The constant mispronunciation of common words was a distraction. I couldn't believe that a professional narrator couldn't pronounce gauche or Akron (Ohio) correctly.

Dreadful narrator - ruined the book

Not a bad story but the narrator was absolutely terrible. Mispronouncing words and narrating with an extremely irritating tone. I wouldnt listen to anything with her narrating again!

Great story! Now Im going to have to go back and read book one! The characters are wonderful, gritty and completely believable. Excellent storyline and the audible performance is top-notch.

Fun and addictive

I could not put this down. I listened to this in one day. Cant wait for the next one. I didnt think Id like this series and ended up loving it!

Hilarious who-dunnit

Mustang Ridges is a single mom who is struggling to make ends meet after her ex, the former sheriff, ran off with the town's money and left her with a mountain of debt. Mustang is a hoot...and will have you LYAO!! She and her 'gang' of friends are fresh off solving a mystery when Big Tommy is blown up on his front lawn...they believe that BT was murdered but the police has ruled it an accident. We follow Mustang and her pals as they decipher the clues...This was a murder mystery with a twist! Lots of humor while not being insensitive to the murder victim. If you like funny who-dunnits, then you'll enjoy this book.

Fun!

Like the first book, this story was so much fun. This was a really great story. I'm looking forward for more books by this author. The narration was as good as in the first book. You've to listen to the first book to really enjoy this Series.

I just love the Bill Slider series. The plots are serious but there is also a lot of humour - and humanity - in the various characters. Terry Wale brings them all to life superbly. I hope there will be many more.

MURDER IN AMISH BAKERY

MURDER IN THE AMISH BAKERY by Samantha Price book 3 " Ettie Smith Amish Mysteries" .

This was such an intriguing story, that captured me from the beginning. Once again we have two sisters living together, with their daily dose of remarks, which brings chuckles. This has to do with making bread, that now is not turning out. How could this lead to murder. It was a matter she had to solve, and she contacted Ruth the community baker at her store. While enjoying a cup of tea together, something else had happened. A complex story of why Ruth stopped selling bread to the deceased man. Once again Ettie is involved. Each of these stories get more intriguing, and the characters are a delight. With the audio, with the voice of Heather Henderson, brings an added delight for readers. Looking forward to more in this series. Given ARC for my voluntary review and my honest opinion.

Great book

A talented author and an I intriguing plot.

Trying not to be a spoiler but the end of the book is rather unpredictable and is definitely worth the read.

Getting back into reading fiction and enjoyed this short read in one sitting! Easy to follow plot with a few surprises tucked in. I recommend!

A short and enjoyable story in this book. The author have done it properly to reader for reading. The story is divided into ten steps and each of them are well decorated and nice to me. Really enjoyed the story overall.

Review:

The characters are well rounded, well developed and three dimensional. I always love spending time in Christmas River because I get to visit with old friends. Cinnamon and Daniel are such a great couple and I love how supportive he is of Cinnamon. And I love spending time with Warren, Cinnamonâs grandfather. The relationship between the two is very special, and anytime I get to read about them, that makes me happy.

The author is very talented in her descriptive writing and through much of the book, I felt like I was right there, watching all the action taking place. I felt like I was stuck in the blizzard along with everyone else and I felt like I could see the chocolate creations that were being judged.

She is also very talented in creating suspense with just the written word. With so many suspects to consider and so many twists and turns, it was nearly impossible to figure out who the culprit was.

I would recommend this book (and series) to anyone who enjoys a well crafted cozy. If you like your cozies to have characters that you can care about, then be sure you read this series.

I could not put it down...

Meg Muldoon is one of my favorite authors. Each book gets better and better. The last book in the series, so far, Menace in Christmas River, was well put together, and full of suspense. I have read all her books, so I know in my mind something is going to happen, but I never know what.
