    Publisher's Summary:
In top 10 Sunday Times (UK) best-selling author Chris Carter's electrifying follow-up to his "chilling" (Daily Mail) thriller An Evil Mind, the LAPD's Ultra Violent Crimes Unit lead detective, Robert Hunter, races to stop a serial killer whose past secrets rival those of Hunter himself.
Seven days after being abducted, the body of a 20-year-old woman is found on a grassy area by the Los Angeles International Airport. She has been left with her limbs stretched out and spread apart, placing her in a five-point human star.
The autopsy reveals that she has been tortured and murdered in a bizarre way, but the surprises don't end there. The killer likes to play, and he left something behind for the cops to find. Detective Robert Hunter is assigned to the case, but almost immediately a second body turns up. Detective Hunter quickly realizes that he is chasing a monster - a predator whose past hides a terrible secret, whose desire to hurt people and thirst for murder can never be quenched - for he is death.
Fast paced, action packed, and filled with suspense, I Am Death is perfect for fans of Jeffery Deaver, Thomas Harris, and Chelsea Cain.

    Loved!!
From the beginning couple of pages, I was hooked! Very good read! I read it in one sitting. I really like Chris Carter and wish more of his books were available on Kindle. I'm not really good at writing reviews w/o spoiling it, but I wanted to at least give it a review and say WOW. The only complaint -wish it was longer!
    Yeah not bad
Good premise, well paced but way too much superfluous information for me. The author can write but could have cut out a lot, including, for example, the whole bit about coffee which, while intended to show that the characters shared a love of fine coffee, felt like padding. Also, it's not called "grounded coffee". Anyway, I skimmed the book from the 30% mark and still easily kept up with the storyline.
The best novel of the series !!!
First of all,i would like to inform you that I have read the most books of the series. This book is one of the best. The thing that impress me one more time is that the plot of things in the story aren't clear until almost the end.For one more time hunter and his partner take the order to catch a ,what it seems to be ,a serial killer who kills women .But this is only the beginning. What is the motive of these gruesome killings?Who is really the person who make this killings? Until about 30 pages before end nothing is what it looks like to be the truth.Highly recommended to every fan of Chris Carter and I anticipate for the next one.
    Like Blood and GUTS?
Great author for this type of "Blood and Guts: novels. Have all his books and only wish he could write faster. His books are very addictive ,so beware!
    Love the Robert Hunter Series
I loved the book but i had a pretty hard time with all the graphic violence in this one. Other than that, I thought it was pretty good!

    Title: State of Control
Subtitle: Detective Virgil Jones Mystery Series, Book 3
    Author: Thomas Scott
    Narrator: Daniel Dorse
    Format: Unabridged
Length: 9 hrs and 15 mins
    Language: English
    Release date: 04-20-17
    Publisher: Thomas Scott
Ratings: 4.5 of 5 out of 3 votes
Genres: Mysteries & Thrillers, Modern Detective
    Publisher's Summary:
Virgil Jones thinks his life is back on track and he's in control of his future. But he's not.
In fact, he's about to discover he doesn't even know the meaning of the word control.
State of Control, book three of the Virgil Jones Series, shows Thomas Scott is at the top of his game.
In Shelby County, Indiana, a group of mega-farmers are about to make the deal of their lives. During a dry season that threatens to ruin their harvest, they begin to dig for irrigation water but hit a pocket of natural gas instead. A hasty deal is put on the table and the members of the Shelby County Co-op board are set to go from a Midwestern farming powerhouse to a multi-million dollar fracking operation that will ruin the land along the Flatrock River forever. Except one of the farmers doesn't like the idea. He doesn't like it at all....
Pam Donatti is still grieving the loss of her husband, Ed, after he was killed in a vicious gun battle, a battle that almost cost Virgil his own life. When the state refuses to pay Pam Donatti her husband's death benefits, the Indiana State Troopers go on strike in support of a fallen officer's family. But Pam has a secret, one that has the potential to change her, and her son's life forever....
On a quiet Sunday afternoon Virgil's former boss calls and tells him the governor wants a private meeting. Why? He has no idea. And frankly, he doesn't care. He was fired from the state's Major Crimes Unit by the governor himself eight months ago. Besides, his life is going just fine. His wife, Sandy, is pregnant with their first child, he owns two businesses - a Jamaican-themed bar called Jonesy's, and a private investigation firm he runs with his partner and brother, Murton Wheeler.
But Virgil is about to discover that time isn't as linear as it appears and events from his past are about to repeat themselves. And when they do, he'll come face to face with pure evil and forced to make the kind of choice no man should ever have to make.

State of Control is another entertaining novel by Thomas Scott. The characters continue from the previous two books in the Virgil Jones series, and they continue to delight as always as they go through the ups and downs of living in a mystery Novel. Scott's writing is light hearted most of the time, but isn't afraid to jump to the darker side when the plot turns suspenseful. I would have no qualms against putting State of Control next to any of the major Authors and Novels in the same genre. The storytelling is fast paced, exciting, and filled with twists and turns that keep you, the reader, engaged and hungry for more, especially during the single biggest plot twist I have ever come across in a mystery novel. I had a hard time putting it down and my only complaint was that when it was over, I wished the story hadn't ended. I look forward to the next iteration in the series

I sort of enjoyed the series but I had in the back of my mind all the time that it seemed to almost be a little too similar at times to the Virgil Flowers series. No matter how I tried I just could not shake that thought the more I read.

A very good short story. Will be reading the next installment.
I would have probably given this book 5 stars, except that it had a few too many "F" words for me, personally (although it wasn't over-ran with them)...and the violence, although only short in duration, was much too graphic for my personal tastes.
But aside from those two "complaints"...I thought it a very good read; especially for a short story. So often there isn't time in so few pages to adequately acquaint the reader with the characters, and have them be "real" enough to cause the reader to want to invest in them. But this introductory story seemed to be well balanced in that:
    1) It provided us with a strong lead character, who was hard...but not without sympathy--one that I have enough interest in, that I want to get to know her better.
    2) There was enough back story that I had a "clue"...but I wasn't bogged down by more info than I even cared to know.
    3) The story line was fast paced, held my interest, kept me wanting to read more...in short, if I were a fish, I would definitely consider myself "hooked"!
As I said, very good balance between developing the characters AND keeping the story moving along.
    Left wanting?
The story was good, right up to the time you left us hanging out there wandering where the rest of the story was.
    Amazing well written plot !
Amazing ,gripping story !!! I knew that it was a prequel view shortly to a full nove but I had read others and it was no biggie to just forget what I had read . No so with this one! The writing was so smooth that you wanted to hurry to get to the next part. To soon you were at the end and your nerves were tingling to know more !! Alas I have to wait a while to get the rest of the story . But get it I will you better too !!!!
    Unfinished business
Little disappointed that references made to facts which had no information on. While I enjoyed the book and could easily ignore bit I felt I was missing, commuting to the end was a big disappointment. Just when felt getting into the actual story case, book ends and will need to buy next one to find out any conclusion.
Cliff hanger ending so you are expected to buy the next book
Disappointed that the ending left you hanging and if you want to know what happens, you have to purchase the next book. I like books where the same character is in different books and the character develops, but I do not like cliff-hangers! Too many other authors out there to waste my time.

    Publisher's Summary:
Faye Longchamp-Mantooth, who runs a small archaeological consulting firm, is in Oklahoma so she and Joe can join his father, Sly Mantooth, in dispersing his mother's ashes. While there, Faye is serving as archaeology consultant on the reopening of a site closed down decades before when an archaeologist disappeared. The Muscogee Creek Nation intends to create a park, if nothing sacred lies in the soil. But the bones that emerge as the backhoe completes its work prove to be those of Dr. Sophia Townsend, killed by a blow to the head. Now tribal police hire Faye to investigate. In so doing, Faye learns that Sly Mantooth knows more about the dead woman than he has admitted.
Sophia Townsend had possessed a forceful sexual magnetism that she didn't hesitate to use to manipulate everyone around her, breaking hearts and destroying marriages. Was she killed by a lover, a wife, or Sly Mantooth? Or was it due to greed or fame? Faye's obsession with this case tests her professional ethics as well as her marriage. Such was the power of Sophia Townsend that, 29 years after her murder, she wreaks havoc once again.

    Awesome
This might be the best book in the series. But I say that about all of the books. I love Faye and Joe and their adventures. Cassandra Campbell does a wonderful job giving this characters a voice and bringing them alive. I want more!!!
    So glad Faye is back.
What did you love best about Burials?
I have really liked this series since I first happened upon it. I have always found Faye Longchamp an interesting character. The book prior to Burials, Isolation was difficult to get through. It is difficult to see a strong character floundering and flounder was all that Faye did in Isolation. So I hesitated to purchase Burials but I am glad I did. I remembered how much I enjoy the series all over again.
What does Cassandra Campbell bring to the story that you wouldnt experience if you just read the book?
Cassandra Campbell HAS to be the narrator, she is Faye, Joe, the whole world of Dr. Faye Longchamp-Mantooth.

    BOOK 4
What was one of the most memorable moments of Rough Justice?
I totally enjoyed this audio book. It has an Interesting story line, little humour thrown in for good measure. Great ending,
Another chilling listen that will shock you
    Any additional comments?
WOW from the first page this author grabs your attention to the last with his gripping tale of mutilation that will make all men and most women cringe I know I sure did. The author left me with my mouth hung open as the killer starts is act and all he does to kill his victims. One serial killer down the author takes us off to the next one who has it in for pedophiles as he takes them down one at a time. This is the second book I have listened to by this author and it is just as good as the first one. The author took me in from the first page making me hold my breath with the chilling tales of a serial killer who knows just how to make these criminals pay for their crimes in a way that most of us would love to.
The author is also the narrator which had me a little nervous because most authors cannot narrate very well. However I thought that Mr. Croft did a pretty good job not as good as his past narrator but a pretty good job. I thought his voice was very pleasant with a delightful accent that pulls you in. I do think his female voices do need a little work to sound more female. I thought he did put emotion into the listen I always knew who was talking and what they were feeling. The tones for each character are pretty good that you have no trouble feeling the emotions the characters are feeling. There are no places where there are a repeat of words or any place where the volume is higher or lower than anywhere else in the audio. There are no background noises just a clear audio that is very enjoyable. If any breaks were taken I could not tell it was a very crisp clean audio that did hold my attention and at times making my heart speed up and leaving me holding my breath. I am looking forward to listening to more of his narration and feel he will become a wonderful delightful narrator as he goes along narrating more.
Poor Jack has so much on his plate from his wife coming back, not being able to see his daughter, his wife leaving again and is friend dying that it is hard for him to puy his heart into his work. He feeling the new serial killer is doing a wonderful job not saying he wont do his job but when his mouth overruns his mind he gets into a lot of trouble. With a new boss coming on the scene he over steps his self lands him on leave.

    Another delightful trip to Botswana
Adjoa Andoh always makes the wonderful world of Mma Ramotswe come alive so convincingly. After 17 books the Botswana of Alexander McCall Smith offers a glorious, if fictitious, refuge from the stress and disappointments of life in cold grey Britain and the intolerance of Brexit. If only Mma Ramotswe could replace Theresa May our problems would soon be solved!
    Fabulous!
I love all these books and Mma Ramotswe is my hero. They just get better and better.
And Adjoa Andoh characterises so well! Her voice is soothing and very adaptable, and she conveys emotions brilliantly. She really captures the heart and spirit of the No 1 ladies Detective Agency. Thankyou
Another one as good as the others
If you liked all of these stories in the earlier part of the series you will like this too. Some very comforting as well as thought provoking themes, not really a typical detective novel but a gentle and humorous exploration of the human condition on a backdrop of a remote and exotic country in Africa which in human terms could not be more near to us.
Adjoa Andoh's reading is perfect. It is really believable and adds another layer to the text. I could not imagine any narrator for this series but this one. The reading itself is a work of art within a work of art.
Another warm hug of a listen
Old friends Precious and Grace are back to do not a great deal but allow you time to be transported to the heat and leisurely pace of life in Botswana. As with all the Ladies Detective Agency episodes there are some deep thoughts disguised as chatter over tea and a slice of Mme Potakwani's fruitcake. Adjoa Andoh narration was excellent.
    excellent
quality listening, it is so pleasant to be transported tho the gentle ways of Botswana Thank you to Author reader

    Intriguing murder mystery
This is an intriguing murder mystery that keeps you guessing who the killer is. It is a well written, smooth paced detective story that keeps your attention all the way through. The characters are very likeable and you soon become attached to Det. Brown, who has to deal with his own health issues as he tries to put the various pieces together and capture the killer before he murders again. The narrator of the audiobook fits the book well and did a great job of giving individual voices to the various characters. It is an enjoyable, gripping story and I will look forward to the next in the series. I received the audiobook at no cost and under no obligation.
    Another triumph for Dalglish
I love John Dalglish's city homicide books and especially this one. Cop on the verge of retirement trying to solve one last case before he goes. Well written and great narration.
    The reader has odd inflections.
struggled because of the reader... strange inflection made it difficult to listen and follow the story
    Nicely done
Another enjoyable listen from John Dalglish. This is a different series from the one I was listening to before, and I actually liked this narrator better. Nothing wrong with the man narrating the Jason Strong series, but this gent has a very calming voice.
Liked the story. Nice twists and turns, established characters, comfortable in their own stories. Very pleasant overall
bit it's better than I could write
Oh, my. Such a simplistic attempt at writing a mystery. Kind of fun to listen to, in spite of amazing holes in solving the crime.
