We wrapped on Season 2 of the Stressless Eating Podcast back in December, but I recently sat down with a client of mine where she shared her VERY VULNERABLE journey, and I knew I had to share it.
You see when I met Anita, she was almost at that point of giving up altogether. Anita was so bummed out that after attempting every diet under the sun and going through SO MUCH therapy to heal her struggles with food and her body -- she got to that point where she thought that NOTHING and NO ONE could help her -- that she was just a "lost cause" or destined to stay "this way" forever.
And then there was the big elephant in the room for Anita that (when I met her) was her BIGGEST source of pain and shame:
Bariatric Surgery
Anita had gastric bypass a couple years before we met, thinking that THIS would be the radical step she needed to get her life back in control.
And even though the surgery helped her lose weight initially, she started gaining it back and went back to her “default” of eating junk foods in binge-like fashion... and feeling like she wasn't worthy of "being thin". Not to mention all the SHAME she was experiencing from the thoughts of "If I can’t do this with surgery, what’s left?!"
She knew she didn't want to go through life abstaining from foods, constantly thinking about her weight, or trying to manage the shame and self-criticism that her brain and self-image had gotten used to, but it seemed that everywhere she turned, the only option available to her was ANOTHER form of restriction or obsession!
Desperate to change, but not wanting to go on yet another diet, she somehow stumbled upon my Podcast and booked a call to speak with me about getting help.
There was so much information out there, and she was so overwhelmed and tired of thinking about it all, but she knew she had to do SOMETHING radically different. She knew that the problem was in her BRAIN.
In this episode Anita shares the in's and out's of her struggles, her journey, and the steps she took that finally led her to freedom after DECADES of shaming herself and feeling out of control.
