  • Help Your Child Transition From Fun to Done with Joy and Ease

We’re diving into how to stop power struggles with kids and solve transition battles in a way that builds parent-child connection and makes moving from one activity to the next easier and more joyful.

By the time you finish listening to this short episode of our weekly podcast, you’ll know how to replace the “coo-coo cycle” of commands and consequences with a powerful approach rooted in gentle parenting and kind and firm parenting strategies—C.E.O. (Connection, Encourage Cooperation, Ownership).

Here’s the 4-step gentle parenting approach we’ll explore:

    1. Connection First
Come alongside your child and notice what they’ve been enjoying, or name it. For example:
“Wow, you’ve been having so much fun building that sandcastle!”
This builds parent-child connection and helps calm anxiety & emotions for smoother cooperation.
    2. The “Last Thing” Cue
Like in Daniel Tiger, give a gentle 2–5 minute heads-up and let your child choose their “last thing.” This gives them a sense of control and supports kids with big anxiety & emotions.
    3. Empowering Choices
Use playful, clear choices to make cooperation more fun. Instead of “We have to go,” try:
“Do you want to hop or gallop to the car?”
These simple parenting strategies keep your tone kind while keeping limits clear. (From the "Empowering statements" handout)
    4. Two Roads
If resistance continues, offer two clear options with natural outcomes:
“You can walk to the car or I can help your body get there. You choose.”
This tool, inspired by the What Should Danny Do? books, keeps things positive while holding boundaries.

This episode is full of parenting tips & tools that work beautifully with children who find transitions tough. It’s not about being strict—it’s about gentle discipline that helps kids feel seen, safe, and supported.

  • Why Explaining Doesn’t Work When Kids Misbehave (and What to Do Instead)

Do you ever feel frustrated when your kids just don’t “get it”? You’ve explained why they should be kind, modeled sharing, or tried talking them out of an upset—yet nothing changes. This is what I call “parenting from the neck up”—relying only on logic and explanations when your child’s brain simply isn’t in a logical place.

In this short episode of our weekly podcast, you’ll learn how to shift from over-explaining to strategies that actually work. By tuning into anxiety & emotions first, you’ll unlock more cooperation and strengthen your parent-child connection—without endless lectures or power struggles.

    Here’s what we’ll cover:

    • Parenting tips & tools for helping kids who are resistant, emotional, or defiant (RED) when reasoning just isn’t working
    • Why it’s essential to stop arguing the “lyrics” (content) and start listening to the “music” (feelings) for deeper connection
    • How to use gentle parenting practices and emotional attunement to create calm, confident parenting moments that bring real change

These positive parenting strategies will help you parent without yelling, use kind and firm parenting approaches, and even stop power struggles with kids—all while raising confident kids who feel truly understood.

If this episode resonates with you, subscribe, share it with another parent who needs encouragement, and leave a review so we can keep bringing you practical support for your parenting journey.
