Well, this podcast definitely opened my mind to how much alcohol can play a part in our lives, whether it be habit, relaxation or overcoming social anxiety. Kirsten and I chat all things switching her sitch, from switching countries to careers and now kicking off a business that came about after giving up the alcoholic plonk.
Kirsten and I sip the chardonnay on her migration to Australia from South Africa, to work in the corporate arena, running the graduate recruitment program for Accenture, and trained management staff in Australia, Singapore, Malaysia, China, and Korea on recruitment - and interviewing techniques. Kirsten then went on to complete a Masters in Educational & Developmental Psychology at the University of Melbourne and went on to run their own practice in the Eastern Suburbs of Melbourne for 10 years.
In 2020, Covid struck and Kirsten’s life, like many, changed. Dissatisfied with the process of online therapy, she decided to take some time off to recharge her batteries, with the intention of returning to her practice when Covid had blown over and she could once again engage in face-to-face counseling. During her time off, she also decided to take a break from alcohol. Needless to say, that decision had a bigger impact on her than Covid, as she soon realized how beneficial alcohol-free living really was.
There was only one problem, the availability of alcohol-free beverages that weren’t “soft drinks”. So Kirsten started a mission through her business Point Zero Cellars.
Now Kirsten sees her contribution as making alcohol-free options super available to everyone and by important a range of alcohol-free options through her company Point Zero Cellars and talking all things mindful drinking! Her vision is for every bar, restaurant, and retailer to stock a really great range of alcohol-free beverages.
