This may be the latest share-fad, but is it being done safely? Rudy & Andrea take a look at commercial swimming pools and how home pool rentals meet that criteria. But, are they being treated as such? From what we hear, they are not. If any listeners own or maintain pools that are involved in this program - we want to hear from you!

The Langelier Saturation Index is the basis of swimming pool water chemistry. A simple mathematical formula determines whether the water is in balance (neither corrosive nor scale forming). Realistically, not a measure of the success in preventing algae or bacteria, but a calculation designed specifically for the protection of the vessel, the swimming pool itself—a determination of calcium carbonate saturation. Let's face it; we have come to depend upon the accuracy of the pool industry LSI (Langelier Saturation Index).
The water being in balance is extremely important, and the LSI is a tool we rely upon. After all, we know water needs to have a certain amount of calcium and carbonate in solution, and the level we need varies upon both temperature and pH. If the water is found to be corrosive, it will pull calcium and carbonate from the pool walls and floor, etching the surface. When the water is scale forming, everything from a cloudy water condition to calcium carbonate deposits forming about the pool.
But, is the formula accurate? And, are the apps even necessary?

Where are all the workers at? The buzz is almost always about the lack of product on the street, but is the product missing because it's in short supply? Or, are the 'out of stocks' simply due to the fact manufacturers can find anyone to put the 💩 in a bucket?
Guess what, Fabricators - you are not alone. For years lifeguards have been in short supply and in 2021 pool service tech positions remain vacant as well. Andrea & Rudy address some concerns and then offer up some recruiting solutions. If you are hiring or looking for a job - this episode is one you will not want to miss.

The best way to make your acid supply last during a muriatic acid shortage is to set your pool up so that it doesn't need any in the first place. This means that we will have to find a way to keep that level in the acceptable range for as long as possible. This can be done quickly and without difficulty with a couple of products that are easy to find and super inexpensive. If you need acid to get your pH into range we have some alternatives there for you as well.

Chlorine continues to be scarce. Supply and demand are kicking our pool budget's ass. If we can't get more, it makes sense to make what we do last longer. In fact, if we take the right steps, it is possible to make our current stock of swimming pool chlorine last as much as three to five times longer.
In this one, Rudy and Andrea talk about those things that you can do to stretch the chlorine supply you have without breaking the bank.

What do you do when you find a dead body in a swimming pool? That's exactly what one Talking Pools listener asks Rudy & Andrea in an email to [email protected] this week. Apparently, a resident at one of the pool professional's accounts, a condo association, had passed away while bathing in the pool at night. The body was discovered first thing in the morning by the maintenance tech while walking the grounds. Shock it? Drain it?
Don't miss this episode where Rudy and Andrea go through the protocol on discovering a dead person in a pool and treating the water after the body is removed. This and more on this week's Talking Pools Podcast!

It's true! No matter how badass Jason Momoa is, the former Baywatch and current Aquaman star is not likely to be sitting poolside waiting to rub lotion on your back. This means you will need to have a better plan in place to prevent your worst water nightmare from becoming a reality. Your child just managed to open the sliding glass door, but the noise from the blender had muffled the sound. They are heading toward the pool. Can they swim? There's a splash, but it's too far away to be heard from the kitchen. It only takes 20 seconds for a child to drown.
In the U.S. there is no single day that has as many drownings each year as the 4th of July. We hope that everyone has a great celebration with friends and family. Enjoy the fireworks, hot dogs, and the birth of the nation, but make it a safe one. From aquatics to pool pro, we all play a role. Have fun, but make sure to keep both eyes peeled on the water and teach your children to swim!
Andrea Nannini takes control of the Talking Pools podcast this week and brings the terrifying reality of hidden swimming pool dangers front and center. Listen as she and her co-host Rudy Stankowitz discuss the layers of protection every pool owner should have in place. What is the number one contributing factor to child drownings? The duo also discusses the pool professional's role in preventing this unspeakable tragedy, the lifeguard shortage, and what to look for upon arrival when visiting public pools.

If you’ve ever stared at a test kit like it personally insulted your family… welcome home.
Talking Pools Podcast is the pool industry’s “pull up a chair” show—part shop…
Here’s the hook: it’s not theory-first. It’s experience-first—a roster of seasoned pros (with 250+ years of combined “been there, fixed that” wisdom) turning complicated problems into practical moves you can use the same day. And it’s not one voice, one vibe, one corner of the industry: it’s a network of shows designed to reflect how diverse this work really is—different regions, different specialties, different personalities.
Also worth saying out loud: women aren’t “special guests” here—they’re on the mic as hosts, from the beginning, with an intentionally balanced roster. That matters, because the best ideas in this industry don’t come from one lane—they come from the whole road.
If you want a podcast that can make you laugh and make you better at what you do—without pretending the job is easier than it is—Talking Pools is the one you queue up before the first stop, and keep on when the day starts getting weird.
