We are here to talk about the teacher shortage, which is actually what we started this podcast to talk about. As you probably know, the teacher shortage is still raging. Some school districts are doing a lot of different things to retain teachers. We rounded up some of them so we can pick them apart. Join us as we decide if they're good or not.

Let's dive into the world of phones today where our jokes about brain rot aren’t really jokes. The data shows that kids get better test scores when they aren't glued to their screens, but snatching away their precious devices doesn't go down well – surprise, surprise.
At most schools, it's the teachers crafting phone procedures. Admins, it's time to step up and create school-wide policies. Teachers are drowning in responsibilities; let's not add phone politics to the mix. Tune in for more on this tangled web – no promises on a neat conclusion, but plenty to ponder in your own classroom.

It's winter. We're gonna get cozy, drink hot chocolate, and talk about holiday parties. We asked for stories and boy oh boy did you deliver. Name calling, physical fights, meth, and multiple pregnancies. Your workplaces seem pretty intense.
Thank you all for sending us your stories. We hope you have fun at your holiday parties. And if your work isn't throwing a holiday party, get drunk alone and send some emails. Open up Slack and pop a bottle.

Today we're talking about school boards. Nearly 40 percent of school board seats are uncontested and that's how the Moms for Liberties of the world are able to swoop in and change policy. If you have one ounce of political organization, you can overtake a school board. You have to be strong of spirit but it can really make a difference.

Welcome back to Teacher Quit Talk, where we podcast about things that we hate. Today we’re talking about standardized testing. Honestly, there are so many different angles to this issue that we could do a whole podcast on it alone. We’ll probably cover it more in the future. Today we’re getting into the basics: what standardized testing is, why we do it, and whether or not it’s helpful.

We're doing a Patreon submissions episode today - we’ve heard that you like those. Some of y’all are really going through it! Fortunately, there are a lot of good lessons and happy endings in here, too. It can be hard to walk away from a toxic situation because you often get told the lie that “it’s like this everywhere.” But if you look, you might just find a school where you can thrive. It’s hard out there but there’s definitely hope!

Our guest is Leah Watson, Senior Staff Attorney in the Racial Justice Program with the ACLU's National Office. Before her legal career she taught high school. Welcome back to Teach or Quit Talk, everyone. We have a real podcaster here with us! Our guest is a former teacher and the host of Would You Believe?, a podcast about the daily struggles of various occupations. Today we’re talking about how the demand for teachers to never shut off is driving educators out of their minds and out of the classroom.

We decided to take a break from the negativity and talk about something positive. We found a list from U.S. News of countries that have the most well-developed public education systems. We’re number 16 - it could be worse but it could be a lot better. From Sweden to Japan, you might as well call us Mr. Worldwide because we’re looking at school systems all over the globe.
