Docker remains one of the hot topics in the industry today, and last week was their second conference of the year: DockerCon EU 2015. NetApp was a Gold sponsor of the conference, and we proudly sent six people to meet, talk, geek, and fraternize with the attendees. We had several demos at our booth, including cloning containerized MongoDB utilizing FlexClones and the Snap Creator Framework, automatic registration of containerized applications with Snap Creator, the NetApp Native Driver for ClusterHQ’s Flocker, and deploying a scale-out Docker Registry using NetApp and SnapMirror. This week we have Garrett Mueller, Technical Director for NetApp, and Jonathan Rippy, Software Engineer for NetApp, on the podcast. Garrett and Rippy were two of NetApp’s representatives at DockerCon Europe and they share with us their experiences at the conference, as well as some of the things they learned from the sessions.

NetApp Insight 2015 was a massive success, and certainly one of the many highlights was Dave Hitz, NetApp’s Founder and Executive Vice President, and Joe CaraDonna, Senior Technical Director, announcing that SnapMirror will now not only run in AltaVault, but will soon run across NetApp’s entire product line.

This week, the gang is joined by data protection experts, Rachel Dines, John Spinks and Michael Cade, to discuss what “SnapMirror to Everything” means for the future of data protection and how it impacts NetApp’s vision of a Data Fabric. OpenStack is the choice of many organizations who want to provide private cloud services for their applications which follow the Amazon Web Services (AWS) model. This week we welcome Dave Cain to the Tech ONTAP Podcast. Dave and the guys discuss OpenStack’s Liberty release and the trip OpenStack Summit Tokyo. We also talk about the recently released FlexPod Datacenter with Red Hat OpenStack, which provides a concise guide to deploying RHEL-OSP on the FlexPod platform.

The public cloud is the future growth area for many organizations, enabling rapid development, prototyping, on-demand capacity, and many more features for building the next generation of applications. While cloud may be the future of applications, much of the data still resides in on premises resources. Bringing the data to the application is a complex problem that is being addressed head-on by NetApp using the Data Fabric.
