Casey Sablowski is a wife, mother, teacher and Australian Olympic Games legend. Casey’s stellar career in Women’s field hockey included representation at the national junior level competing in junior World Cup tournaments, before solidifying her spot in the Australian Olympic team the Hockeyroos. In this role, she represented Australia at 3 Summer Olympic Games, and 2 Commonwealth Games, winning the gold medal at both Delhi in India and Glasgow in Scotland. After making the squad for the 2008 Beijing Olympics, Australian coach Frank Murray described her as potentially the best female field hockey player in the world. And so began the Australian team’s prominence over the next 8 years before she retired after the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio De Janerio, Brazil. 

I could go on and on about Casey’s athletic accolades, but fundamentally, she is the epitome of hard work and dedication. A person that values camaraderie, team spirit and working towards common goals. Values she transfers into her personal life and teaching career.

Carmen Greentree is a mother, ex-professional surfer, healer and most recently author of her book of memoirs, A Dangerous Pursuit of Happiness. Carmen, has been in pursuit of her highest truth and purpose all her life. From a depressed and anxious young girl, she became a world-class pro surfer, travelling the world and riding the ecstatic waves of fame and fortune. An underlying story of self-development which started in her teens buoyed her along, always pointing towards being her saviour. Carmen took a deep dive into spirituality at 21 and headed to India to study with the Dalai Lama. Her quest for enlightenment was brutally derailed when she was abducted, had her passport and money stolen, and was raped, extorted, abused and kept a prisoner on a houseboat in Kashmir for two long months. 

Her journey back to healing and wholeness allowed her to find herself and forgive herself with a depth so profound, it set the scene for the rest of her life. Since then, Carmen has been on a journey of unconditional love, creating a space of support and compassion for all who cross her path.

On a personal note, my path has crossed Carmen’s at a profoundly painful and uncertain time in my life. After connecting with Carmen, learning about her journey so far and sensing the sincerity in her desire to help others, I can’t help thinking that this podcast is no coincidence.

Gordon Bradbery is a husband, father, ordained Church Minister, and now, the current Lord Mayor of Wollongong City on the South East Coast of Australia. Born and raised in a rural town in the state of New South Wales as a child, Gordon moved to the capital city of Sydney at 10 years of age and spent the majority of his teenage years living in a children’s home…a time he personally refers to as “being raised by the school of hard knocks”.

Gordon’s service to the community is vast and sustained.  Throughout his adult life he has consistently advocated for, led and initiated support programs linked to Mental Health, aged care, homelessness and beyond. Aside from his many other accolades and awards, in more recent years, Gordon was made a Member of the Order of Australia for his significant service to local community.

Gordon is very much a champion of the people in my eyes, an advocate for community cohesion, connection, harmony and inclusivity.  During his long tenure as a Church minister he (literally) conducted hundreds of marriage ceremonies, my own included! I was immediately intrigued by his passion, sense of humour and willingness to conduct wedding ceremonies outside the four walls of a church. His whole approach seemed contrary to the dogma I had often associated with a traditional church setting…and I liked it, as do many others. In this week's episode, Gordon is with me to share his journey, challenges, experiences and hopes for the future.

Dylan Longbottom was a previous guest on the show, dating back to episode 27 in which we recorded in his surfboard showroom in Berawa, Canggu Bali. Amongst surfers, Dylan is a legend of the tribe. A fearless slab-hunting, eternal grommet, who has dedicated his life to progression in all that he does. The Longbottom family's rich surfing history and influence are subtly entrenched throughout modern day surfing and surf culture as we know it. Dylan’s journey from being a pro-junior to professional free-surfer for Billabong, to big-wave tow-in pioneer at slabs like Teahupoo in Tahiti (yes, including the legendary Code Red Swell), to surfboard shaper and craftsman has continued to perpetuate and re-enforce the legacy of the Longbottom family. A legacy that is already being passed on to his children.  Last time we caught up, Dylan was preparing big-wave guns and tow-boards for his riders in time for the European winter, specifically at Nazare in Portugal. Dylan discussed his humble beginnings in Cronulla before moving to the south coast of New South Wales, we discussed the East Coast Low of 2016, his stuntman work on Point Break 2, his shaping journey and beyond...legendary stories. Now, more than ever, life has a way of going full-circle, and in this week's episode Dylan is with me in his newly opened Boardroom in Cronulla (where it all began) to share his journey, experiences, challenges and hopes for the future.

Stephen is a proud Koori man of the Warumunga Kamilaroi nation, father, motivational speaker, skateboarder and double amputee (legs). Stephen grew up in a low socio-economic area on the south east coast of New South Wales Australia. Aside from being a highly dedicated father, and skateboarder, Stephen is passionate about advocating for, and raising awareness about, the pandemic of mental illness that continues to sweep the world, particularly in males. Known as “Stove” to his friends, Stephen’s skills on a skateboard are mind-blowing. You just have to watch his clips on Youtube to see his level of dedication and his ability to adapt. Upon meeting Stephen, I sensed his innate sincerity immediately, a person that is comfortable in his skin, empathetic and supportive of others. Deb Young is a wife, mother, self-confessed yoga nerd, a trained Doula with a passion for helping women during pregnancy, entrepreneur, global traveler, food-lover and co-founder of the long-established Younga Yoga studio on the South East Coast of Australia. Basically, she is a charismatic leader who inspires those that have the privilege of being in her presence. Deb has a Degree in Physical & Health Education and a background in dance, but it wasn't until she met (her now husband) Russ that she discovered her love for all things Yoga and the amazing way it can help bring balance to life.

Deb has a unique ability to bring Yoga philosophy to life on the yoga mat with dynamic & clear sequencing by drawing metaphors between what we practice ON the Yoga mat as a symbol for what we do in our everyday life OFF the Yoga mat. 

When I first practised with Deb and Russ in their tiny studio (in what seemed like a previously used office space), I immediately sensed the passion and desire for sharing their knowledge, building a community, serving others and effectively creating a collective consciousness of Yogi inspired humans! Since those early days back in 2006, Younga Yoga has since moved to a larger studio, inspired a larger audience and stayed true to their core values, whilst growing a sustainable business. Jarryd Rees is a skateboarder, videographer, photographer, short-film maker, youth worker and co-founder of Vinyl.Ltd skateboarding video production company. In his role as a youth worker, Jarryd provides essential care to young people who have a history of challenging behaviour and have been displaced, or simply have nowhere else to go. He supports them by being available to listen, converse and show kindness. Ultimately, he provides the fundamentals that most of us take for granted, yet so essential to building self-esteem in an individual. This is not a skateboarding podcast, this is a podcast about humans. The human journey if you will. But I must admit, it was so nice to sit down and talk-story with a pure skateboarder like Jarryd. Brian King is a husband, father, entrepreneur, businessman, yoga and mountaineering enthusiast.  Originally from Dublin Ireland, Brian can be best described as a self-made man. Son of a fisherman and a nurse, educated in Aquaculture, Brian has owned and operated a diverse range of successful businesses in construction and health and wellness. Brian’s mountaineering adventures have inspired travels around the world, he finds a connection to the landscape of Nepal and the Himalayas.  Brian’s charismatic approach to life, his kind heart and big smile make him a natural born leader.  In 2013, I was lucky enough to join Brian on an expedition (which he organised and led with local Sherpas) to the Himalayas in which we supported local schools in the Khumbu region (Mt Everest) by supplying essential educational needs such as backpacks, tables and chairs. Racing him to the touch p of Mt Kalapathar (6000m), watching the sun rising over Mt Everest, and then frolicking at the base of the Khumbu Glacier are profound memories that I will cherish for eternity (I have photos of all of these experiences by the way which I will share on the THT Instagram).

Brett Harriott is a husband, martial artist, and the founder of Fit2Fight Boxing Boutique. Brett began pursuing his passion 31 years ago and has since competed, instructed and coached Boxing, Muay Thai and Mixed Martial Arts at the highest levels. His involvement in the industry has led to travels around the globe, competing, training and being the corner-man for some of the best in the world. Brett has an affinity with Thailand, its people and culture. A place that has shaped and moulded his skills, techniques, work-ethic and personality. Aside from holding a Bachelor Degree in Physical Education, Brett’s journey has also led him to being a fitness and conditioning coach for National Rugby League teams and beyond. Basically, his resume in the boxing and fitness industry is no joke. Those that have trained under Brett, can testify that he possesses an innate ability to squeeze the best out of people. Hard, humble, nurturing and inspiring, you just feel stoked to be around him. He’s my kind of influencer.  After training with Brett on and off for many years, and witnessing his journey quietly from afar, I am in awe of the facility he has created at the Fit2Fight boxing boutique. It is the culmination of a lifetime of hard work, passion and dedication, but most importantly somewhat of a legacy for the community he has created with his wife and their team. Darren Longbottom is a surfer, father, businessmen and author. Darren has grown up living near the beach, and is born into a family with a rich surfing history. In fact, a family that has pioneered surfboard manufacturing, surfboard shaping and his father was even a key contributor to the establishment of professional surf competition formats, which have evolved into what we know today as the World Surf League (WSL). Darren was a successful competitive surfer in his younger years before moving into the surf industry and eventually owning a surf shop in which he still owns and operates to this very day. I believe that everyone’s life journey is unique and Darren’s is definitely no exception.

In his book, “Beyond the Break”, Darren recounts a significant direction-change that occurred in his life after having a freak accident occurred while surfing in a remote area of the Indonesian Archipelago.

THIS IS 52 (WEEKLY) EPISODES!
Yep, 52 episodes in 52 weeks. I've been doing this podcast while working full-time at the Green School in Bali and raising two small children.  The podcast has given my life a different type of (and unexpected) purpose. Connecting with guests and hearing their story has been more enriching than I could ever imagine. Every single episode has had its own flavour, setting, sound quality (literally) and message. What continues to resonate for me is this equation of people sharing, listening, identifying and, it seems to equal healing. If you are someone who has been listening regularly (I know you are out there). I thank you and I hope you have heard what you needed to hear, I hope this has eased feelings of isolation or at the very least, I hope you’ve been entertained...
