Loki is a husband, father, chef, and founder of the Trust the Loki food retreats and the Loki Cooks Fellowship (scholarship program). Loki dedicates his time to creating experiences, supporting, nurturing and mentoring others who have a purpose and passion for food. Loki was born in Mysore, but raised in the city of Chennai India, and moved to Australia in his early twenties. Loki’s journey has taken him from India to Australia, to graduating University, to becoming a husband, to becoming a father, to becoming the people’s favorite on popular reality TV show Masterchef Australia, to Indonesia, to creating food retreats in the Himalayas, to creating his self-funded scholarship program the Loki Cooks Fellowship and beyond. Prior to this episode,  I watched a short clip on his website about one of his Himalayan food retreats and there was a quote from it that resonated with me immediately,  “If you love something. Do it. Don’t worry about money. Money will come. Don’t live someone else’s dream”. I really liked it and I feel that this quote echos Loki’s life journey.

Loki’s kindness and approachable nature make him loved by many, his passion for food translates into all that he does and it is obvious to me that making food for others is where he finds his purpose and sense of spirituality. Greg Stock is a husband, surfer, educator, story-teller, smoothie lover, coffee lover, who plays the Gamelan and likes hanging in hammocks.
Born central Minnesota USA, Greg is the youngest of six children. Ice Hockey, Baseball and Football filled many hours in his formative years, as did working and playing on his grandparent’s dairy farms.
His elementary and high school teachers included many Benedictine nuns and monks from a local abbey and convent, and he was inspired from an early age by their values of self-sufficiency, simplicity, and social justice.
His university studies brought him to both St. Paul, Minnesota and the University of Vienna, Austria. He majored in both English and German and discovered an affinity for numerous German philosophers and the ethic of practical idealism.
The ensuing decade found him at various locales such as teaching in Jamaica, working in outdoor education in Minnesota, driving city bus in Oregon, serving as a host at a mountaineering base camp in California, and studying in India.
For the past two decades, he has worked as a high school Literacy, Social Studies, and Physical Education teacher in both Bali and Hawaii. He holds graduate degrees from the University of Hawaii in Asian Studies and Library/Information Sciences.
From the moment I met Greg, I was immediately drawn to his warmth, kindness and approachable demeanor. He is one of those people who walks into a room and you just kind of feel like everything is going to be alright. He is a big man, with a big heart. In fact, he is so big, a Stand-up Paddle Board is his go-to option… the Ocean is Greg’s happy place.

Esther Milanzi (Ubuntu) is a creative writer, educator, traveler, wife to her husband Angelo and someone who radiates bread-crumbs for other creatives. She is the co-founder of the Surat Warrior Writers group in Thailand, she conducts weekly creative writing workshops and writer’s groups here in Bali, she is passionate about building a community of creatives and cultivating alternative ways for people to connect (other than just partying). Esther is currently a superstar educator at the globally recognised Green School, Bali. She is a black South African and half Caucasian American who has spent most of her life in America with her mother and two sisters. Esther was estranged from her biological father who was deported from the USA when she was three years old. The opportunity to visit the birthplace of humanity (Africa) arrived after she finished graduate school from Florida State University with a degree in International Education Development. Esther was then awarded a Fulbright grant to teach leadership and literacy skills at a FET college in Vereeniging, South Africa, an Afrikaans town forty minutes south of Johannesburg. Esther’s traveling experiences (and blogging while doing so), became an unintentional journal of her healing journey, it has helped her to develop a deeper understanding of the post-apartheid racial climate, and it has given her a sense of closure after visiting her father’s gravesite (twenty-three years later). Esther’s travel journey of self-realisation also led her to meeting her paternal family (including a younger brother and sister). It was with this connection that she received, from her cousin, her South African name Ubuntu; meaning humanity. In this week’s episode, Esther is with me to share her experiences, challenges, strength, and hopes for the future.

Scott Vandervoort is an artist, designer, educator, creative thinker, all-around nice guy, but most importantly a loving family man. Scott is the Adjunct Associate Professor of Industrial Design at the prestigious Pratt Institute Brooklyn, New York. His career as an Industrial Artist over the last twenty years has comprised of a journey that involves design, fabrication, installation, project management, utilization of urban spaces to create iconic architectural experiences, visual arts and much more. Scott is passionate about his craft and always endeavors to share his experience and knowledge with those that want to learn. He has evolved into a mentor to many. Scott is bound by a personal desire to progress, and he has expanded his skill-set in recent years to the art of Bamboo design and construction. At present, Scott is in Bali after completing another tenure as an educator on the internationally recognized Bamboo-U design course. Tai Graham is a professional free-surfer, entrepreneur, curator, businessman, club promoter, music lover and most importantly, a loving family man. Based in Bali for over a decade, Tai landed on the Island of the Gods (Bali) in search of a lifestyle that included pumping waves, good food, and good people. This week’s guest is Craig “Bud” Branch. Bud, (a nickname he acquired as a child and best known by) is a three-time winter Olympic Alpine ski racer, specialising in the Downhill and Super-G (Super Giant Slalom) events. Craig represented Australia at the Salt Lake City (USA), Torino (Italy) and Vancouver (Canada) winter Olympic Games, he spent 10 years on the World Cup tour and qualified for six world championship events. Bud is also a passionate surfer, husband and new father to his son Ziggy. I also consider him to be one of my best friends. Since retiring in 2010 after the Vancouver Olympic games, Bud has maintained an international career as a ski racing coach and now Director of Alpine Sports and Head Coach at Thredbo Resort in NSW Australia. Despite his desire to go fast on a set of skis, Bud is relaxed, calm and patient by nature. He is deeply connected to surfing and the Ocean.
