  • #77 - Nathan Vickery: The art of agitating your life into happiness.

    Send us Fan Mail

    https://terriblehappytalks.com/
Nathan Vickery is a husband, father, surfer, contractor, ex-counsellor and someone I consider a best friend.  As I write this, I was thinking about how the term “best friend” can often be regarded as somewhat of a throw-away term. However, in Nathan’s case, he epitomises the characteristics of a best-friend. Loyal, open, non-judgemental and not scared to call you on your bullshit when (and if) required. Nathan is family-centric, diligent in all that he does, both in the surf, or just at life in general. In this week’s episode, Nathan is with me to share his experiences, challenges and hopes for the future. 77BABY.

  • #73 - Craig Branch: The 3 x Winter Olympian mindset.

    Send us Fan Mail

    https://terriblehappytalks.com/
Craig "Bud" Branch is a three-time winter Olympic Alpine ski racer, specialising in the Downhill and Super-G (Super Giant Slalom) events. Craig represented Australia at the Salt Lake City (USA), Torino (Italy) and Vancouver (Canada) winter Olympic Games, he spent 10 years on the World Cup tour and qualified for six world championship events. Better known as “Bud” to his friends and family, he is also a passionate surfer, husband and father to his son Ziggy. I also consider him to be one of my best friends. Since retiring in 2010 after the Vancouver Olympic games, Bud has maintained an international career as a ski racing coach and  he is now Director of Alpine Sports and Head Coach at Thredbo Resort in NSW Australia…which is on the back of one of the worst ski seasons ever! Despite his desire to go fast on a set of skis, Bud is relaxed, calm and patient by nature. He is deeply connected to surfing and the Ocean.  Last time I recorded with Bud, we were sitting by the pool at The Pink Coco resort in Uluwatu, a place we have had many good times together, surfing, partying and in more recent times, chasing our kids around the pool. Bud was a previous guest on the show dating all the way back to episode 24 (49 episodes ago!). In this week's episode, Bud is with me to check in, share his experiences, challenges and hopes for the future.

  • #70 - Kristyan Stjerne: Why 2020 is a good year.

    Send us Fan Mail

    https://terriblehappytalks.com/
    ***THIS IS 70 WEEKLY EPISODES***
Kristyan Stjerne is a surfer, yogi, captivating artist, muse and purveyor of good vibes and kindness. He simply beams. Kristyan was a previous guest dating all the way back to episode #51 in which we recorded in the dark, by the cliffs of Uluwatu in Bali, on the evening of Nyepi- the Balinese new year. Moreover, this was literally a couple of days before the industrial and commercial world broke into a pandemic of hysteria in which world leaders seamlessly capitalised, closing boarders, applying curfews and imposing social distancing regulations...all under the cloak of a necessary “new normal”. Enmeshed with little resistance from a fearfully obedient, confused, face-mask wearing and hand-sanitising public, the result for many is economic ruin, loss of livelihood, mental illness, family breakdown, poverty and starvation at global levels not seen before. All while a mainstream-media monkey rides joyfully on the back of it all. In this week's episode, Krystian is with me to check-in, share his experiences, challenges and hopes for the future.

  • #69 - Dan Mann: Humility and surfboard craftsmanship perspectives.

    Send us Fan Mail

    http://www.terriblehappytalks.com
Dan Mann is a surfer, shaper, craftsman and head of Research and Design for Firewire Surfboards. Over the last 25 years of building custom surfboards, Dan has shaped and glassed boards for legendary surf brands such as Channel Islands, Rusty, Xanadu and Joel Tudor. Driven by progression, Dan’s journey as a craftsman has led to the development of a close relationship with Kelly Slater in which they collaborate on many of the boards Kelly rides in the WSL tour events. One of their latest creations being the FRK. Like many surfers, I’ve followed Dan’s work from afar and any time I see him in the media or video clips, his laid-back, California surf stoke beams…with a hint of mad surfboard shaper genius. In this week's episode, Dan is with me from his home in San Clemente to share his journey, experiences, challenges and hopes for the future.
