⚠️ Trigger warning: This episode includes discussions of suicide and kidnapping. Listener discretion is advised.

Therapists Shannon and Cathy close out their look at Black Mirror with Season 5 and all three episodes of the 2019 season: Striking Vipers, Smithereens with Andrew Scott, and Rachel, Jack and Ashley Too starring Miley Cyrus. It was also Terror Talk’s 250th episode.

Covered in this episode:

• Why Season 5 has only three episodes, and Bandersnatch, Black Mirror’s choose-your-own-ending film
• Striking Vipers: Danny and Carl, a VR fighting game, sexuality, the Kinsey scale and an open marriage
• Smithereens: Andrew Scott, Damson Idris and Topher Grace in a hostage standoff with a social media founder
• Rachel, Jack and Ashley Too: Miley Cyrus as pop star Ashley O, an AI doll, and a family business built on control
• Why American Black Mirror feels kinder and gentler than the early seasons

Clinical themes: sex and love addiction, gaming addiction, sexual fluidity and how male sexuality gets pathologized, consensual non-monogamy and the communication it needs, trauma, guilt and shame, sitting with the dialectic, grief in siblings, the objectification of young female stars.
