  • Episode 524 – How The Death Of A Pet Can Make Social Media And The World A Better Place?

    It's sad around here because our beloved Buddy Guy (100 lb - 10-12 year old) black Labrador has crossed the Rainbow Bridge.
    BG (as he was affectionally know) was beloved on social media. He was not a celebrity like Grumpy Cat or a TV star like LiMu Emu (and Doug), he was just a rescue animal from the Chicago pound. He did have a life well lived like almost dying playing ball 5 years ago, checking his P-Mail daily, and posing next to the American flag on Holidays.
    He also had a degenerative spine condition that affected his hind legs to the point where he could not walk on his own.
    People would love to check in on his treatments and progress but more importantly,.. they loved him and his story.
    When he past, I post it on social media and the outpouring of love was overwhelming. What I noticed was the difference between those posts and most that I do and see on social media...

    *
    Sympathy - feelings of pity and sorrow for someone else's misfortune or understanding between people; common feeling

    *
    Empathy - the ability to understand and share the feelings of another

    In this episode, we will discuss what I have learned and how it can help you to create stories and post to social media (especially groups) in a way that create empathy (which can generate the most heartfelt engagement).

  • Episode 520 – Does it Pay To Join The Online Pay To Play Game? It’s a Gamble?

    Social media has truly become more media, and less social. All platforms are based on selling something (mostly ads), and they tilt the scales in their favor. Business pages in Facebook are lucky to get 1-2% of their likes (fans) to see any post without boosting or paid advertising. Even LinkedIn is starting to clamp down on links to outside websites (which is the vast majority of the links being shared by users). So how can you beat the system?
    You really can't but you can belly up to the social media table and place bets (in the form of advertising). There are a few things you want to make sure you do in the process...

    * Have A Plan
    * Understand Your Audience
    * Choose People or Money
    * Measure The Results
    * Tweak The Strategy

    In this podcast, we will dig into doing something that you may not want to do, but may be in your best business interest if you plan to use social media to generate sales.

  • Episode 518 – Give Your Content A Little Bit Of R.E.S.P.E.C.T.

    What you want Baby, I got it
    What you need Do you know I got it?
    All I'm askin’ Is for a little respect
    That song was a theme song for a generation of women, but today we all could use a little more R.E.S.P.E.C.T. with our content marketing. RESPECT  is defined as a feeling of deep admiration for someone or something elicited by their abilities, qualities, or achievements (and I certainly offer up my RESPECT to Aretha Franklin - The Queen Of Soul!).
    But the kind of respect I am talking about here is an acronym and formula...

    * R - Research
    * E - Experience
    * S - Sympathy
    * P - Purpose
    * E - Education
    * C - Context
    * T - Take-Aways

    In this episode, we will explore how to earn respect with your content marketing and give a little bit... Sock It To Me!

  • Episode 516 – Relationship Capital Investment Can Create Greater Interest?
    I received a message on LinkedIn from a connection who just read one of my books. He wanted to thank me for the insights of the content by taking me to lunch. I said my plate was full, but made time for a phone call. He talked about having to make a deposit when it comes to relationships, in order to be able to make a withdrawal.

    Since my wife works at a bank, that spoke to me!

    Banks make money off your money. They take your deposits and charge interest, and then pay you back a portion of that as a dividend. That is the same with using content. You deposit it, and people invest time in it, and hopefully it pays dividends. Trust is the dividend you get only when you...

    *
    Spend As Much Time On People As Posts
    * You Have To Deposit Before You Can Withdraw
    * Trust Is The Interest On Your Efforts

    In this podcast we will discuss how to grow your business through relationship marketing and by investing in others... to reap the largest rewards!
