The Best Bits

It's the most wonderful time of the year! Returning for a special Christmas episode, Will and Kevin are joined by writer, film critic, author, podcaster, and Empire's resident Geek Queen, Ireland's own Helen O'Hara who "literally" drops in to chat Santa Claus films and all things Father Christmas.

Helen is the host of the fantastic Christmas-themed podcast Bah Humbug! She's also the author of the excellent book on the secret heroines of Hollywood "Women Vs Hollywood: The Fall and Rise of Women in Film" (on sale now!) and she produces the must-listen-to podcast tie-in of the same name.

From magical Santas to costumed Santas, to anti-Santas and killer Santas, this episode covers it all as Will and Kevin, with help from Helen, figure out what is the Best Santa Claus Scene.

You can follow Helen on Twitter at @HelenLOHara.

Will and Kevin are joined for this episode of "All The Best Bits" by writer-director Rioghnach Ní Ghrioghair. Alongside being an excellent and empathetic script editor, Rioghnach has made several short films, including "Break Us", and her brand new short "Don’t Go Where I Can’t Find You" which just premiered at Vienna's Slash Film Fest and The Cork Film Festival. She’s also a former development exec whose credits include "Rose Plays Julie" and "Float Like a Butterfly".

Curtis Hanson's 1997 neo-noir crime film L.A. Confidential is one of Rioghnach's favourite films, one that she's seen multiple times since the age of 12. It's a great commentary that veers into a lovely discussion about navigating the business as an independent filmmaker and writer from both sides of the development process.

When it comes to Whodunits, many names come to mind, Raymond Chandler, Agatha Christie, Otto Preminger, but when it comes to who brought it? Will and Kevin's extra special guest co-host did. A writer of five books, four movies, and the host of one long-running podcast.

C. Robert Cargill is the author of the critically acclaimed novels "Sea Of Rust" and "Day Zero"; he's also one-half of the popular podcasting duo (with Brian Salsbury) of Junkfood Cinema and he's the co-screenwriter of box office blockbuster films "Sinister", "Sinister 2", "Doctor Strange", and the upcoming Scott Derrickson horror film based on the Joe Hill short story "The Black Phone".

In a killer episode that spans all genres and eras of whodunits, Will, Kevin and Cargill thoroughly investigate this week's scene theme in an effort to solve the ultimate crime - that of attempting to pick a Best Whodunit Scene!

Will and Kevin are joined by film director Adam Randall whose fourth film "Night Teeth" is released worldwide today on Netflix starring Debby Ryan, Jorge Lendeborg Jr., Lucy Fry, Alfie Allen, and Megan Fox. Coincidentally, "Night Teeth" is chock full of scenes that take place over one night in the city. Funny how that happens.
