Ohio State coach Ryan Day on Tuesday mentioned the idea that receiver Jeremiah Smith might not get the stats necessary to build a Heisman Trophy case. If that's the case in this day and age, where the best teams are making sure to stay fresh for a a playoff run that could last four games and takes place after the Heisman is handed out, do we all need to get smarter in how we think about the Heisman? Doug Lesmerises tackles that question on this Tuesday Rants show, as well as addressing Pitt finding a freshman quarterback of the week from Toledo, and Bill Belichick continuing to be a disaster at North Carolina. Along for the ride this week are Adam King from 10 TV and Beau Bishop of 97.1 The Fan, among other places. The Ohio State Buckeyes got a primetime home game for the first time in two years and took advantage on Saturday night. They smothered the Minnesota Golden Gophers on defense and let it rip on offense. Carnell Tate had nine catches for 183 yards and a touchdown, Jeremiah Smith had seven catches for 67 yards and two touchdowns and Julian Sayin threw for 326 yards and three touchdowns.. Ohio State is now 5-0 heading to Illinois next week, and Doug Lesemrises and Bill Landis break it all down on this live postgame show.

Ohio State is favored by 23.5 points over Minnesota, as the teams will face off in Ohio Stadium on Saturday night. Will Julian Sayin and the Buckeyes' passing game let it rip against the Gophers? Will Minnesota running back Darius Taylor play? How much might Ohio State shut down the Gophers' run game? Will Koi Perich be a factor for Minnesota on defense or special teams? Is this a game for Jeremiah Smith and Carnell Tate to attack the Minnesota secondary? Bill and Doug preview both sides of the ball and then offer their picks. The 12-team College Football Playoff is on the minds of The Bill and Doug Show again, and the impossible task or trying to sort out Ole Miss, Texas A&M, Oklahoma, Texas, Missouri, Alabama, Tennessee and LSU is undertaken. Bill and Doug talk that out, as well as the idea of Ohio State and Oregon being the top two seeds in the playoff and whether the ACC will get one playoff team or two. Should the Ohio State Buckeyes be viewed in the national college football discourse as the prohibitive favorites to win the national championship this season? Doug Lesmerises thinks that if they were an SEC team they would be viewed that way, as Georgia has been in the past. That's one of Doug's rants. Then he checks in on how Michigan native Trinidad Chambliss wound up as the savior of an SEC program. And he discusses Paul Finebaum's claim he's considering a run for Senate. Can we think of somebody better to vote for than a sports talk host? Thanks for joining The Bill and Doug Show.

Ohio State linebacker Arvell Reese doesn't lead the country in tackles or sacks, but he's impacting the Buckeyes in a variety of ways all over the field. Does that make him the best linebacker in the country? If we can't really answer that, is he the best linebacker OSU has had in at least the last decade? Bill Landis dives into that and some thoughts on how Reese played against Washington on this episode of The Bill and Doug Show. Thanks for watching.
