The Bones Brigade Audio Show

Welcome back to the show! This week we’re once again scratching our heads as we deal with another strange case of an alternate version of a Powell video that- much like the rough cut of “8” (see BBAS027)- somehow leaked its way out into the world. This time, it’s an altered version of 1992’s “Chaos”, featuring incredible, mostly-unseen parts by Eric Ricks, Mike Frazier, Paulo Diaz and others, along with numerous different songs and other randomly omitted oddities. How? Why? The mind boggles, but as always we do our best to break it all down. Fret not- for you too can view this new-school rarity by simply going to our YouTube channel, so tune in, like, subscribe, come along for the ride and join us- shall you?

HAVE YOU SEEN HIM?

Play! We do like to play here at The Bones Brigade Audio Show, and as you know, playing is always better with friends. So, to assist us in reviewing this under-the-radar Powell Skateboards video of the same name, we have enlisted our buddies Jim Fitzpatrick- who produced it in what would ultimately be his last project with the Powell Corporation, and Skate Talk Bob- who as a young skate rat rented it on repeat, to come on for a fun and informative digital dissection. We talk stunts, style, atmosphere, influence, and much more. What does it mean to play? As usual, there’s only one way to find out- so join us, shall you?

HAVE YOU SEEN HIM?

For this seventh entry into our Intelligence Report interview series, we are welcoming to The Bones Brigade Audio Show none other than the infamous Robert Kittila! If you’re a Brigadeer from way-back-when, or listen to this show with any regularity, this name will surely be familiar to you. Now a two-time Emmy winning cinematographer and photographer, Robert cut his teeth in the industry working alongside Stacy Peralta, Craig Stecyk and Jim Fitzpatrick in Stacy’s famed Silverlake office. In addition to shooting and editing for Powell classics such as Public Domain, Ban This, Propaganda and more, Robert was a true innovator; designing and fabricating a number of unique filming devices that would take the art of skateboard filmmaking to new and previously-unseen levels. This episode is packed to the brim with incredible stories, from Lance Mountain’s bulldog attack to Frankie Hill’s massive gap ollie and everything in between. This is definitely one you will not want to miss, so get to the nearest high-ollie zone and join us, shall you?

HAVE YOU SEEN HIM?

Where have I heard that song before? It's a question we've all asked ourselves- and, in the case of the many classic Bones Brigade videos- these earworms are more than coincidental. Join us as we dive back into The BBAS' second foray into the fascinating world of Powell Peralta video tunes! Once again, we have six songs to put up side-by-side with their alleged originals for an auditory experience like no other. Are they A) covers? B) tributes? C) a clever way to score a skateboard video with popular songs while avoiding licensing costs? Or are they D) all of the above? You decide!

HAVE YOU SEEN HIM?

Welcome back to the show! This week, we’re taking a slight detour from our regularly scheduled programming for a fun review of the 1992 Pow Wow at Powell II NSA contest video! Is it technically a Bones Brigade video? Well, no- but it has “Powell” in the title, and that’s good enough for us. Held at the infamous Skate Zone back in February of 1992, Pow Wow is a snapshot of a pivotal moment in skateboarding, featuring some of the best up-and-comers of the 90’s going head to head with some of the best remaining established pros of the 80’s. We have Chris Senn, Tony Hawk, Steve Caballero, Wade Speyer, Jim Fitzpatrick, football-shaped decks, full pads, big pants, big tricks and vert wall insanity a’plenty, so focus that board in as many spots as possible and join us- shall you?

HAVE YOU SEEN HIM?

Here’s one we certainly had not anticipated! For this special episode of The Bones Brigade Audio Show, we will be checking out material from the recently unearthed “rough cut” of Powell Peralta’s “8”- a video we reviewed just a few episodes ago. What is this rough cut, you ask? A listener reached out to let us know that he was in possession of what appeared to be a very rare version of 8 that was significantly different from the official release of the video as the world at large knows it, containing a multitude of parts that never made the final cut! Joining Matt and Larry in the studio is that very listener- friend of the show, Brian Farrell- to give us some backstory, and help us get into the weeds on several unknown clips from Sean Mortimer, Ray Barbee, Jeff Toland, Mike Daher, and more, along with some forgotten skits, fake commercials and other oddities! Don’t worry, though- for you too will be able to take it all in, as the Bones Brigade Audio Show YouTube channel is now live, and in addition to previous episodes of the show that we will be adding soon, this video is now uploaded for you to check out, with more exclusive content coming soon. Like, subscribe, and join us, shall you?
