The episode is a little late, but Happy New Year! We're talking about book resolutions, what we learned from our last year of reading, and our January reading project.
Next week we're discussing Shirley Hazzard's Transit of Venus.
UPDATE 1/7/2020 - A listener reached out to us on twitter to ask why we believed Hannah Mullet to be black. As she, rightly pointed out, Hannah is Irish. Corinne clearly read the dialect Hannah speaks in incorrectly. It's been a good opportunity to re-examine biases and a reminder to read the text more closely. The episode has been edited to remove that part of the conversation in order to avoid confusion and unhelpful/incorrect information about the book.
How does the oldest book we've ever read for the podcast hold up to the test of time and to the test of Becca's childhood memories? Find out this week as we talk about old timey dating rituals and when it's appropriate to drink wine and find out which March sister we are.
Our next read will be Transit of Venus by Shirley Hazzard.
It's that time of year again! Everyone's working on their best of lists and thinking about all of their reading accomplishments. It's basically an episode straight from high school: first we chat a little about some recent literary world scandals and internet gossip, and then we assign our book superlatives for 2018 readings. Let us know what your favorite books were! You can reach us through www.thebookstorepodcast.com.
Next time we will be discussing Little Women by Louisa May Alcott. Get it and read along with us!
This time we read one of the most talked about books of the year, and one sure to be on lots of year end lists, as well as a contender for plenty of awards. Does There There by Tommy Orange stack up to the hype?
Next time we'll be chatting about Little Women, so brush off the copy you got for your birthday in 3rd grade and read along with us!
Want to take bets on whether or not we liked this book by James Baldwin?
Next time we will be reading There There by Tommy Orange, which was longlisted for the National Book Award. You can find it at your local library and read along with us.
