The longest book in the series and as Allen put it, "the first one that really brings forwards an oppressive teenage atmosphere." What do they think about each media individually? This New Year's strategy is a little different. Instead of speaking on and on about books they've never read - no matter how much fun it is to judge a book by its cover - Danny and Alex decided it was a good idea to switch up their ranking podcast this year. Having already twice roasted the Amazon and New York Times top ten best-sellers they thought it would be a better idea to talk about books they love and have read. Well...kind of. Perusing the internet for a decent list it was hard to pin down a topic and eventually the conversation went from positive to negative but that alone provided some insight. Selecting the Modern Library's list as the topic, these two stooges debate their five best, five over-rater and five they desperately want to read. It's a flurry of magic. However, this time the author and the kids take a break from near death experiences. Volume five is an unusual one, so Danny gets a chance to discuss light novel structure and enjoy a series of short stories rather than the first volume of a ramping plot. He goes through each story and then gives them individual positives and negatives. Through the review he points out the author's deficiencies in one area and praises others while trying to keep the critique balanced. There's also more chances to rattle on translation issues, theme, and the organization of the realm in general. Look forward to another engaging and entertaining review with one of Danny's favorite franchises.

Two-in-a-row, and to be upfront this is Danny's favorite entry in the

light novel series. As such, the solo artist has a lot to say. Going quickly through the plot, Danny really focuses on how his favorite book won him over in the past and why it's still effective now. He illustrates the evolution of the characters, how the antagonist improves, and more importantly why the protagonist is relatable despite being god-like. Through thorough writing, the author builds a world based on the fusion of magic and science and by using wonderful characters and events, "Irregular" sends you on a story full of mystic and youthful hijinks. It has been a long time coming! Finally, Danny gets to volume three of one of his favorite series and gives the people what they want. Very few episodes of The Broken Shelf have the moniker of "most played" and both of the first two volume of 'Irregular' do, so putting it off any longer didn't make much sense. Firing up the new two part arc, Danny discusses further translation issues, delves deep into the ritual combat of exposition, and explores the explosion of character development. There is a reason this light novel series is beloved, and Danny counts himself among the faithfuls, and therefore it stands to reason that he has far more positives than negatives for this one!
