The Charisse Report episodes

  • Ep. 206: PSA: Someone else's weight is none of your business

Today we’re talking about weight, or rather, I’m talking about whether we should ever talk about weight when it’s nothing to do with our own body. Meaning, should we ever talk about someone else’s weight, whether it’s gone up or down, whether that’s 'good' or 'bad'.

If at any point during this episode, there’s something you want to say or share, please do find me in the DMs on Twitter or Instagram @beautymepodcast or email me direct [email protected].

TW: Before I share my thoughts, I do want to let you know that I will touch upon eating disorders and miscarriage so if either of those subjects feel too heavy right now, please give this episode a miss. I want to point out this is not an

episode about health and I also want to point out that this episode will not even get into how race, gender or disability impacts the conversation around weight –but that’s something I definitely want to explore another time so I’d love to hear from you if you want to have a conversation.

Please let me know your thoughts; is it time we stopped talking about weight? If you’re listening on Spotify take part in the poll over there and let me know! Or you can email me direct on [email protected] or DM me on Instagram or Twitter @beautymepodcast or on TikTok @charissekenion.

Did you know that you can now listen to BeautyMe on Amazon Music? Wherever you listen, I would really love if you could hit that subscribe or like button. Feel free to leave a 5-star rating over on Spotify, or write a review on Apple Podcasts. Don’t forget there’s also my newsletter beautymenotes.substack.com where I often share imagery from each episode. See you next time!

  • Ep. 202: Makeup artist and Stila founder Jeanine Lobell on building an iconic brand, working with Naomi Campbell and meditation

Jeanine Lobell, the founder of iconic brand Stila, is this week’s guest and it’s one of the best conversations I’ve ever been lucky enough to have. Jeanine started out as makeup artist – and still is today – and in 1994 she changed the face of beauty with her whimsical, functional brand.

In this episode I ask Jeanine to take us all the way back to the ‘90s – what did it take to build a beauty brand back then? Was it easier or more difficult compared to today? How much did Estée Lauder pay her for her brand in 1999??

Jeanine is the definition of an innovator and I feel that future beauty founders could learn so much from her. She shares so many amazing, inspiring and fun stories of the decades she has spent in the beauty industry, and also shares what she would do differently if Stila launched today.

If you love this episode I would love it if you could write a review on Apple Podcasts or leave a review over on Spotify. It makes a big difference.

While you’re at it, if you subscribe to BeautyMe wherever you listen, you’ll never miss another episode. Be sure to head to TikTok to see my video content with Jeanine @charissekenion and definitely check out this week’s newsletter where I share some really lovely insights from Jeffrey Fulvimari, the illustrator who created the legendary Stila girls. If you haven’t signed up already, you can subscribe for free at beautymenotes.substack.com. Thanks for listening – I’ll see you next time.

  • Ep. 199: We all have thoughts on Beyoncé going into haircare - but if you don't want it you don’t have to buy it.

For this episode I wanted to explore the many layers of discussion around Beyoncé launching haircare, including the question, is she even qualified to launch a haircare line?

As part of Destiny’s Child alongside longterm members Kelly Rowland and Michelle Williams, from 2001 onwards the band won every award you can think of, and as a solo artist Beyoncé has amassed over 30 Grammys and is tied with her husband

Jay-Z as the most nominated act in Grammys history with 88 nominations each.

As well as the endless awards and nominations Beyoncé is absolutely 100 percent a modern day hair icon for black women the world over and has undoubtedly inspired millions of women to make changes with their hair. In this episode I discuss a little of Beyoncé's impact, her importance, her personal life and her reasons for going into haircare.

I’d love to know your thoughts on this one – you can either DM me on Instagram or Twitter or, if you’re listening on Spotify, please do take part in the poll I’ve shared on the episode page. Thank you so much for listening – if you want a little bit more

of me, go ahead and subscribe to my newsletter at beautymenotes.substack.com and if you enjoyed this episode, feel free to leave a review on Spotify, Apple Podcasts or anywhere you like to listen.

  • Ep. 197: The life and looks of Disco Queen and Beauty Icon Donna Summer

This episode is dedicated to the impact of Donna Summer, the woman known as the queen of disco who inspired millions around the world to dance, really dance, and forget their troubles. But it wasn’t just about the sounds – it was about her hair, her features, her makeup, the glitter and the sequins.

The reason I’ve decided now is the time to focus on the wonders of Donna Summer is because HBO is releasing a documentary today, called Love to Love You, Donna Summer and it promises to share Donna’s struggles with fame, how she navigated being a mother and also endeavoured to keep her private life private, all while experiencing such career highs as being the first black woman to have a music video play on MTV. I’m dying to watch the documentary so I thought I’d try and take us back a little bit to break down just how Donna inspired the world.

Let me know if you enjoyed this episode and if you're listening on Spotify and you're a Donna Summer fan, be sure to take part in my poll and let me know your favourite Donna song.

And don't forget, there's my special Donna video over on TikTok @charissekenion right now! If you want to let me know what you'd like to hear more of on the show, email me direct on [email protected] or DM me on Instagram or Twitter @beautymepodcast.
