Caroline Aylward: What do you want to experience more of in 2023? Ooh, maybe this can lead you to your intention for 2023. What do you wanna experience more of? What do you want to experience less of? What didn't feel good? What are you done with? Maybe it's a pattern or a limiting belief, a story you tell yourself, or maybe it's like somebody on your team or somebody in your community. What can you do to better support the highest vision of your business and your life?

I created this show to give you a consistent drip of inspiration and unshakeable faith as you hold the duality of entrepreneurship. My mission is to elevate more of your unique voices and to be a support system as you navigate the inevitable highs and lows of your creative journey. Together, we can empower more humans to take up space with their stories, visions, and missions. And from here we change the world.
Hello, creative visionaries. Caroline here, coming to you from my apartment and feeling really excited to drop in and to anchor in what has unfolded in this year. To anchor into it, to celebrate the f*uck out of it, and to get really clear on some goals and intentions for next year. And all of this being done from a place of deep *ss self-love and compassion and honoring the unfolding of your life, the divine unfolding. Before we jump in, I just wanna say that I'm really excited about something that's coming up. In the new year we are going to be offering a free mini course, and it's gonna be happening on the podcast. We're doing a huge giveaway, and it's gonna be a beautiful way for you to just kick off the year, drop into your leadership and your brand, your storytelling, and your authenticity in your business. I am so pumped the link to sign up is in the show notes.
I'll be talking more about it over on Instagram. Wow. I saw my coach do something like this and was so inspired and was like, why don't we just like have a little party over on the podcast and a way for you to kick off your year from a place of expansion and excitement and creativity, creativity. I've had a lot of you recently reflecting back to me why you are here, why you come to me in my brand, and it's for that creative expression. It's for the authentic expression in your business, in your life, and it's for the storytelling. It's for the storytelling as sales, as marketing, getting really clear on your messaging and just being yourself in your brand. And I've loved receiving these reflections because it's really been a journey for me to land on the golden thread of what kind of ties all of my work together, what weaves the story of my business together.
And the truth is, I've always known it, I've always known it, but I just doubted it for a while. I thought it didn't make sense, and maybe you've had this experience too, where I'm doing too much in my business, it doesn't make sense. And that kind of stops you from taking any action. It definitely stops from fully believing in yourself and fully showing up because if you're approaching it from that place of, I don't make sense, or this is too much, or nobody's gonna get it. Then number one, all of your people are gonna be confused because they can feel your confusion. And number two, you're definitely not showing up in your fullest expression and taking up as much space with your voice and your work and your mission and your story. And so this year I'm gonna dive into my biggest kind of lessons of the year and then sum it up for you with the the things that I think that you can really take into 2023 to feel really, really good and grounded.
So I wanna first kick this off with a little ceremony, some reflections, some journaling. So feel free to pause this whenever you wanna pause it. But get out your journal or open up a new Google Doc, whatever your flow is. I'm kind of a pen-to-paper girl with these kinds of things. Unless it's like something really big that I'm writing, then I'm a new Google Doc. So that's totally up to you. , maybe you're like a word doc kinda gal, I don't know. So we're gonna go through a few journal prompts, write them down. You can always come back to them, but I want you to take a breath into your body and to open up this conversation from a place of celebration and acknowledgment of self. No matter where you're at, knowing that you're exactly where you need to be. That you are unfolding, your life is unfolding, your business is unfolding, and everything is happening in divine timing. And I know, I know that that is hard to anchor into sometimes. Believe me, I know. But it is just the truth. It's just the truth. So take a big breath in through your nose, down into your belly and open your mouth and let it go.
First, journal prompt. What felt like a really big win? Delicious, right? What felt like a really big win? And again, pause this if you need it. If you need the time and space, feel into that maybe close your eyes if it feels good. Can you remember a moment from the year where it felt like, f*uck yes, this feels awesome. And it could be something like really obvious, right? Like hitting a financial goal in your business, like getting to that 10k month. Or you know, getting those new clients signed up. Or it could, it could just be like, you know, getting a new apartment or something to do with your home or your family or something with your own personal development. What felt like a really big win? Next question, what brought you to a new edge? What's something that happened or unfolded or that you experienced in your life that brought you to a new place? Some someplace within you that you've never been before? Maybe it was actually someplace outside of you. Maybe it was a physical place that you went, but what brought you to a new edge in your life? And maybe identifying what was that edge? What was that edge? Where could you have shown yourself more love? Where could you have shown yourself more love? Hmm? Is there room for more compassion and less self-judgment, less shame? Is there room for more self-care, more dedication to practice? Is there room for more rest? Probably.
What memory sticks out most to you? And it might help to just really think through the year, like January, 2022. You know, for me, I was just moving to Asheville. That was huge, that was so huge. And then February, March, like think of the milestones, the holidays really go back. Maybe there's a couple of memories that really stick out if you're lucky. What do you want to experience more of in 2023? Ooh, maybe this can lead you to your intention for 2023. What do you wanna experience more of? Hmm? What do you want to experience less of? What do you wanna experience less of? What didn't feel good? What are you done with? Maybe it's a pattern or a limiting belief, a story you tell yourself. Or maybe it's like somebody on your team or somebody in your community. What do you wanna experience less of?
And what can you do better? What can you do to better support the highest vision of your business and your life? If you can go so big to picture yourself in your work and in your career and see yourself speaking on the stages, or for me it's like on set, directing more and working with more people and telling more stories. The highest possible vision. And then your life, right? What's your house look like? Where do you live? What does your day-to-day life feel like? And what can you do to better support the unfolding of that vision? How can you support yourself? What kind of life can you live? What kind of practices can you commit to? What kind of leaps can you take? So juicy. And what is your soul craving more of to get there? Maybe it's more showing up online, maybe it's going live more. Maybe it's selling more. Maybe it's finally creating that offer that you've been waiting to create. Maybe it's pivoting, maybe it's rebranding. What's your soul craving more of? So take the time to sit with these questions, maybe lights and Palo Santo or a candle and sip some tea and just give yourself this gift of reflection and celebration.
Because the truth is, at the end of a year, there is a lot of pressure to mm, just a lot of pressure, right? Like it's the holidays, there's a lot of pressure to like set these new goals and reflect back on like all the sh!t that you thought you wanted to do that maybe didn't happen. And maybe a lot of it did. But there's just this kind of like threshold of crossing into the new year, which personally I find really exciting. But that's because I choose not to opt into the pressure that's associated with it. I'm like, f*uck it, it's not worth it. It's truly not worth, it doesn't really mean anything. You can, you can decide to reset in on February 12th if you decided to, if you really felt called to. So let this moment in time, this holiday season, this new year be yours. Let it be yours. And please just try to bring in more celebration into this moment. Because 2022 was a big one.
It was a large year for Get A Helmet Studio for my brand. And it all began with me really following what lights me up really deeply listening to what my body was telling me. And if you've listened to the Get A Helmet podcast in more recent episodes for our last season over there, I talked about this a lot. I talked about this with almost all of our interview guests, feeling the sensations in your body, feeling what truly excites you, and letting that guide you, right? Not the pressures of what other people around you are telling you to do. Not the old limiting stories, but actually what's unfolding in the present moment. What's lighting you up? What's lighting you up?
And that led me to go on a road trip and ultimately land in Asheville, North Carolina, which I have fallen deeply in love with. And one of the goals that I set for like manifesting for 2022, which I just looked back on the other day, was building a really beautiful, inspiring and expansive community in Asheville. And my goddess, have I done that? There are a few things on that list that did not come into fruition for me, thought that they were coming into fruition and then kind of fell through. But the community piece and moving to Asheville, like, I was like, I'm like, is this what love feels like? This is so yummy.
And that all happened because I trusted, I said no to something that wasn't feeling like alive in my body and it brought me here. And when you follow that resonance, it really, really, really works out. The other things that I've done this year that have felt really big that I wanna share in hopes that you'll gain something from this story, is committing to staying in a coaching container myself all year. There might have been like a month or so when I wasn't in one, but this was the most consistent I'd ever been with that. So either having a one-on-one coach for my business or being in a business mastermind and allowing myself, giving myself the gift of that support. It has changed the game for me. Having someone, an expert's eyes on my business and my brand and being able to see things from the outside in have just been, I'm getting some slack. messages here.
Hold on, let me mute my slack because we’re going a podcast episode, y'all. It's just my team checking in. So sweet, so expansive, right? Here's another piece of the year is that my team has grown and I've been working with the same beautiful virtual assistant slash operations manager for a year. We've got a podcast editor, we've got two copywriters and that's really just like the podcasting side of the business, two graphic designers that I've been working with as well. And just real true expansion in that way and, and you know, staying in the coaching containers and staying calibrated to what is possible for my business. Staying in the vibration of I'm enough and this is possible and I have big visions and big dreams and it's all gonna unfold and happen, happen. Staying surrounded, you know, by people who are in that same energy changes the game.
So I just am so grateful for that experience and can't, can't say that enough that it's so helpful to get support. It's so helpful. In addition to that, this is just coming to me now. I've been working with a therapist for most of this year as well, which is been so helpful. I'm navigating some difficult conversations and relationships within my family system and it would not have been possible without this level of support. I'm actually working with a therapist, a BetterHelp therapist, and you know, it's, it's, I've got, I got so lucky, I got so, so lucky. So shout out to supporting yourself in all of the ways. Also we have a, an affiliate code with BetterHelp. If you are curious about getting support and getting therapy and working with a therapist, I highly recommend we'll put the link in the show notes and yeah, it really, really has been a gift.
Something interesting that unfolded for me was feeling this call and, and maybe you can relate to this feeling, this call of wanting to get that coaching support and wanting to take the leap and wanting to jump into this mastermind that felt like so juicy and delicious, but was just like, mm, maybe $5,000 too expensive for me right now. And just, you know, really checking in on yes, I wanna take the leap. Yes, I want it to feel edgy. Yes, I wanna get supported. Yes, I believe in the high vision and also what is my nervous system's capacity to hold? And if you've been listening to the Creative Visionary Podcast since we launched this year, that's also another thing that happened this year. I think it was one of the first episodes, I think it might have been the second episode about talking about the ups and downs of entrepreneurship.
I recorded that in June of, of 2022. And that was a really tough month. It was a, it was a quiet month. It, and I also felt right at the kind of beginning of things really needing to shift and change. That was the very kind of beginnings of me feeling, I think I need to do a rebrand and not just a rebrand, something bigger needs to happen. And so with the support of my current coach, Robin Savage and her eyes on my businesses, she said, I think it's time to split the brand of Get A Helmet Studio and Caroline Elwood. And I was like, what? And I felt so much resistance to this shift at the very beginning. I was like, hell no. I have really chipped away at shaping my business and all of these offers for years at this point. I'm not doing this again.
I'm not switching things up. And then, you know, a couple hours later I was like, Caroline, that was, I think that was a fear response because this isn't just like reinventing the wheel. This is shining a light on what's here. This is shining a light on what's here. So if you've been with me this year, you, you saw that happen, we now have the Get a Helmet Studio Instagram, and that's where we run all of our brand documentaries and all of our private podcasting support. So that full podcast management where you have our whole team designing your cover and editing your episodes and writing your show notes and all of that for you. It's a really beautiful service. And then within my personal brand, I'm doing all this coaching and I have the Creative Visionary podcast. I'm supporting you on your business journey and running my Core sessions.
And it's, it's so, so good. I'm so grateful for that transition. I'm so grateful for it. And something else that's happened this year is, you know, working on really big Brand Documentary shoots and flying across the country and assembling crews across the country. And you know, we did one of the biggest projects we've ever done this year, which was the Holy Yes documentary for Victoria Washington, where we shot all day at her Holy Yes live event. We had six cameras, we shot for 12 hours and we made a final piece that I believe is like six or seven minutes long. It could be longer. We'll put the link in the show notes if you haven't seen it yet. It's stunning and it's beautiful and it was such a story to tell and it was huge. It was a huge growth edge for Get A Helmet Studio.
And I was just out in California kind of a lot this year. I went out there, one of my short films was screening in a, uh, film festival in LA and I took a solo trip to Topanga Canyon, which I was just so grateful to be able to, to do. And that was the week before my 34th birthday, which felt so affirming to be able to celebrate in that way. And so hopefully me sharing this is inspiring some reflection within you of all these, these things that you've done in your life and ways to look deeper into them as celebration and affirmation that you are on the right track. And in addition to these beautiful things that felt so expansive, it did not all feel like sunshine and rainbows. Like that is not the truth of life. Like I've, like I said, I've been navigating some intense relationships with family members and not speaking and coming back in and just some deep, deep, deep abandonment that, you know, I experienced all through my childhood.
And then, you know, in romantic relationships, people coming into my life and leaving and people coming in and leaving and meeting new people and ending relationships and trusting myself and woo-baby, it really is a wild ride out there. It's a wild ride out there. And again, just coming back to the deep knowing that you are on time, everything is unfolding as it should, and there's just no other way to believe. I mean, that is just the only thing. If you are following your heart, if you're showing up authentically, if you're taking care of yourself, if you're following what feels good and living in in resonance and alignment, then you are good. You're good. Yeah, so it's been, it's been a very expansive year in all of these areas. And like I said, hiring a team of four people for the podcasting stuff and knowing and checking in with you and your business.
Like when is the time to expand? Like are you overwhelmed in your work right now? Like do you, would it be supportive for you to finally hire that VA? Or maybe it's time to go beyond that and get additional support and take the leap and carve out some extra budget to be able to pay more people. It has tremendously shifted and shaped my business so much working with graphic designers to support you and your podcasts. And another big thing that happened this year was launching Spoken my podcast course, which we're gonna launch again in February. And I already see people joining the waitlist, which makes me so excited. This has been the best, best experience working with you and walking with you as you create and ideate and launch your podcast into the world is just such a stunning experience. And sharing your voice and believing in the power of what it is that you have to share and say, and really showing up as a leader in your industry, right?
Like, yes, we just wrapped when you hear this, at least we will have just wrapped the first round of Spoken. So huge celebration for that. So many things have unfolded. Being in a new place, in a new town, living in the mountains. Finally, my, my soul has been craving that forever and navigating romantic relationships that have kind of come and gone. And for me, getting really clear on what I want in that arena of my life and feeling clearer than ever, really, truly feeling clearer than ever. And growing the business and splitting the two brands and hiring the coaches and navigating all of the waves of emotion through all of that. And the lows, right? Like June was super tough and family stuff has been weird. And it's just holding the duality, holding the duality that there can be so much good unfolding and things can feel sticky and crunchy at the same time.
That is entrepreneurship, truly. That is entrepreneurship.
So I wanted to break this down into a few overarching kind of lessons that have really been speaking to me. And there are four of them. So here we go. Let's get into it. The choice to be an entrepreneur means that the growth and expansion never ends. So get right with that now y'all. If you're listening to this, you're most likely an entrepreneur, you're a creative visionary and you're gonna meet a new edge and there's gonna be another new one around the corner. Can you rise to the occasion? Can you relax into the occasion knowing that the scary moments will come? And it's up to you on how you hold that, on what you make that mean. Holding the duality, like I said. My month of June and feeling as things are maybe quote unquote not working out, launching something and nobody's signing up, having a low-income month and knowing that this sh!t is part of it, these experiences are part of it.
The perceived failures are part of the journey. And being an entrepreneur is holding the faith, continuing to show up, taking deep care of yourself so that you can feel your infinite worthiness through all of it. Connection to source, God, the universe, your faith and letting that hold you. And the next one is the importance of fully arriving into a new level of business. This has actually been a huge one for me this year. Arriving like you've done the d^mn thing, you've reached a certain level of business. Maybe for you it's like launching your first offer. Maybe it's like we hit our, our income goal this year, but can you actually take a moment to let that land in your body. To be, to make it a part of your practice? One of my coaches was like, Caroline, your work right now is to arrive fully at where you actually are, rather than thinking that you're still behind.
Ooh, baby, that feels good. So she was like, make it a part of your practice. You know, I'm doing my breath work in the morning, or I'm pulling my tarot, or whatever my practice might look like that morning. And really sitting in the, you're here, look around you, celebrate this and show up from here. Always acting from the seat of that like CEO with the highest vision in mind. And noticing when fear is trying to play with you. Can you stay anchored in that vision in your body and treat that really seriously. Like make it a part of your practice. I have arrived here. The next thing is, everything starts with you. Your self-belief and your consistency in your business will take you there. If there is fear in the way, if there is old stories of I'm not good enough and I can't do this, this isn't gonna work out for me, I'm too overwhelmed, then maybe hiring support is a good option for you right now.
Because those are just f*uckin stories. They're just stories. So getting your self-belief on your side, truly believing in yourself and your brand and your vision, that is like 80% of the battle. Like it is so much of it. And it is just inevitable to flex those muscles and strengthen those muscles as an entrepreneur. And the next piece of that being the continuing to show up even when it feels hard. I mean, sometimes that can have some kind of like toxic, patriarchal, capitalistic undertones, rest. Rest is deeply productive. But like even when it feels like nobody's watching your sh!t and the algorithm's all f*ucked up on Instagram, what if you just like showed up anyway? What if you just created content that felt really fun for you, that you wanted to share regardless of who sees it? I had my dad on the Get A Helmet Podcast like years ago, and he said something along the lines of, you know, the only way that you can fail is if you give up, right?
And I've talked about this a lot. This like little framed quote that I've had, you know, I had it in my bathroom in Boston for years that said, Just Keep Going. Just Keep Going. And maybe someday the just keep going is literally sending one email, maybe it's doing your meditation and maybe another day the just keep going is like posting something, banging and showing up on your stories and launching a new offer and getting four new clients. But it's the fact that you kept going. It's when you stop and get, get caught in the, the story that it's not gonna work out is when it stops. So it's up to you, it's your self-belief and your consistency will take you there. Next one, final one4. And this really ties into me sharing about staying, you know, working with a coach all year, working with a coach, working with a therapist all year.
Surround yourself with people who can meet you or people who take you to new edges. Get in the room with people doing what you wanna do. Get in the people, sorry, get in the people. Get in the room with people doing what you wanna do, who have already done what you're working towards doing. Ooh, even better. Be expanded by the people around you. Unfollow accounts on Instagram or TikTok or wherever the h@ll you're hanging out that lower your vibration that you feel yourself comparing. Only follow things that inspire you and expand you and hire that coach you've been dreaming of. Hire that coach you've been dreaming of. Last year was the year, it wasn't the first year I'd hire a coach, hired a coach, but it was the biggest investment I'd ever made. And it was a moment where I was like, all right, Caroline, we're either in or we're out.
We can keep working in production and advertising and producing and editing and blah, blah, blah. Or we can jump two feet into this business in this community that you've created. And that's no doubt what I wanted. And I just needed support in doing that. And it changed everything. It changed everything. Surrounding yourself with people who can keep you calibrated to the highest vision of your business in life is the key. They can meet you where you're at. They can see you and feel you and they, or even better, they take you to new edges. They see a couple steps ahead. Get in those rooms. Those are my biggest lessons. My biggest, biggest lessons, reminders, takeaways from 2022. And I hope that they served you. I feel that they may have. If you have any questions or any you know thing that you wanna share with me, I'd love to hear from you.
I love getting your messages. I'm on Instagram @iamcarolineaylward. We'll drop that in the show notes if you don't already follow me. And again, please come join us for the New Year podcast, minicourse, we're gonna be breaking down ways for you to kickstart your business journey in 2023. Leadership, authenticity, storytelling, taking up more space, creating content easily. Let's get it. Truly, I'm so excited to be offering this kind of giving back a little gratitude. And we're gonna be running a really fun giveaway as well, so you don't want to miss that opportunity.
If this episode has landed and struck a chord with you, it would mean the world. If you could take a moment to leave us a review on Apple Podcasts, to follow the show wherever you listen to your podcasts, to share it with somebody that maybe is an entrepreneur or creative visionary who's out there in the world like ready to take the leap or who's already making waves in their brand, I'd love for you to share it.
It's truly one of the best ways to spread this message and to spread the love. The podcast love this show means, means a lot to me. It was part of the rebrand, it was part of the brand expansion and the Creative Visionary Podcast was truly birthed from the masterclass that I taught earlier this year called The Creative Visionary. It was one of the most powerful masterclasses that I've ever taught. It's actually on sale. We have it on sale. Put that link in the show notes as well. It's $88, it's 90 minutes. It's a full-blown activation into storytelling, leadership, embodiment, video, audio, content creation, all of it. The complete and utter identity shift that happens when you step into the role of entrepreneur. So that's also a beautiful thing for you to kick start the year with or perhaps end this year with.
I love you. You are powerful, you are more than enough, and you are the only one who can really and truly feel that for yourself. I am so grateful to have you here, to be a part of this community. I've been podcasting for five years now, which is really, really, really exciting and I'm just so honored that you are listening to this. So thank you so much. I'll see you in the new year. Come find me on Instagram and have a beautiful rest of your day. Love you so much.
