There are times when the feedback is right and when it isn't. It's not always easy to know when to toss the feedback aside. Usually, I would trust the feedback. But you, as the original writer of the text, have a better understanding of your text's goals and its audience. That's why you have to learn when to trust yourself.

Don't stick to your own genre as a reader... as a writer. Especially not your sub-genre. There's a lot you can learn as a writer by reading more genres. Perhaps try out classics, contemporary romance, thrillers... There are so many genres. Maybe you'll find a new favourite read on the way too.

FICTION ISN'T REAL BUT...

I mean, it's not, but we pull our ideas for fiction from the reality. We as in writers, of course. Even readers read books from the perspective of someone who lives in this world. In the real world. That's why we often assume intelligent creatures in fantasy or science fiction are so human-like unless otherwise stated. But this isn't just about that. It's also about staying on track with your story idea. Knowing what you want to message your readers is important, and it's about that, too.

DEVELOPMENTAL EDITING EXERCISE
