I give you an easy way to figure out your book's synopsis, going through all the parts of it. You can either use the exact form I'm giving you, but I think you should alter it to fit with the mood and the theme of your book. Writing a synopsis for your book after listening to this episode will be way easier for you. And it doesn't matter if you're a self-publishing author or a traditionally publishing author. Your readers are smart. Trust me, smarter than you think. And you're probably doubting your writing skills for nothing. So, trust your words and trust your readers will understand them. Or if you have doubts, ask someone to read your story and see what they think.
Filter words distract your readers for no gain. There are situations where you need to tell, but even then don't overdo it with the filter words.

For more effective stories and more vivid description, you'll need to use stronger verbs. Was is often overused. Even experienced writers overuse that word. But sometimes it doesn't really bring any meaning to the sentence, and that's why, for the sake of your story, you need stronger verbs. It doesn't even have to be the main plot, the steps work for a subplot, too.
