  • Episode 89: Bringing the Paralympics Into the Mainstream
    Josh George, World Champion Paralympic runner and motivational speaker, joins Joe and Tom for a conversation on his groundbreaking athletic work. At the age of four Josh traded in walking for rolling and then turned those wheels into wings, constantly striving to move faster. Josh has won five Paralympic medals, is a six-time world champion, world record holder, and has won multiple major marathons. Along the way he has become a sought after motivational speaker, and an entrepreneur. In his journey Josh spreads the message of inclusivity, maximizing your potential, and, above all else, the idea that we must keep moving fast.

  • Episode 88: Bringing VR Experiences to Sports
    Jaret Simms, CEO of Monsterfull VR joins Joe to talk about how his company is creating VR experiences in sports. A Full stack web developer, UI designer, and big vision thinker. Jarett's unique combination of skills, in addition to 5+ years of Product Management experience, has led him to excel at crafting and launching standout products. Jarett has led product and/or developed everything from Massive Multiplayer Online Games (MMO’s) to websites, native iOS and Android apps, as well as SaaS platforms such as HYPR, where he was most recently VP of Product.

Brisa has built a multi million-dollar entertainment investing portfolio which includes the record-breaking iconic hit Hamilton as well as Tony award winning shows including Beautiful: The Carol King Musical, Pippin, The Gershwin’s Porgy & Bess, Matilda, and numerous others. A frequent consultant for major live entertainment brands around the world, Brisa leads efforts in development, tech innovation, and fundraising/financial strategy.A “Top 40 Under 40 Business Leader,” she is a frequent speaker and panelist at industry events focusing on the business of live entertainment and has been featured in Forbes, The Sports Business Journal, Crain's, TechCrunch and others.. She has a degree in music, an MBA in finance, and a certificate in Sports Business from Harvard.

  • Episode 86: Growing the NFL in Germany
    Markus Kuhn joins Joe and Tom this week for a conversation on his work to grow the NFL in Germany. Markus is a former German, American football defensive tackle who played for the Giants and the NFL. He was selected by the New York Giants in the seventh round of the 2012 NFL Draft. In December 2014 he became the first German citizen to score an NFL touchdown; returning a fumble against the Tennessee Titans. Kuhn played college football at NC State. Since then he has switched to the broadcasting booth and presents shows on the NFL for German digital TV channel DAZN.

  • Episode 85: Disrupting the World of Sports Content
    Rich Routman joins Joe and Tom this week for a conversation about sports content disruption. Rich is the President and Chief Revenue Officer of Minute Media, where he is responsible for all commercial activities and partnerships and for oversight of 12up. A seasoned digital and sports media executive, he most recently served as Chief Revenue Officer at Perform Media, the world’s largest digital sports content and media group and owner of Sporting News. Prior to that, Rich launched the distribution and monetization business for Silver Chalice Ventures and has previous experience at both early stage start-ups and large organizations such as the NFL. 

    In this episode, Rich talks about the story of Minute Media and the unique approach the company has taken that has led to it being one of the ten most popular sports media companies in the US.   • Episode 84: Building a Regional Sports Empire
    Jim Van Stone joins Joe this week for a conversation on Monumental Sports and Entertainment. Jim Van Stone is the president of business operations and chief commercial officer overseeing ticket sales and services, corporate partnerships, executive suites, marketing and retail business. Previously Van Stone was Monumental Sports & Entertainment’s chief revenue officer. He joined the Capitals as vice president of ticket sales and service in 2007 before transitioning to his Monumental Sports & Entertainment role in 2010. Before joining the organization, Van Stone held senior positions with the Philadelphia 76ers and Flyers, Tampa Bay Lightning, Cleveland Cavaliers and Phoenix Coyotes.

     

    Jim talks about the vision behind MSE and how the company’s groundbreaking approach to regional sports. He touches on topics like his OTT network all the way to their esports work with Team Liquid and NBA 2K.   • Episode 83: Founding ESPN, the World's Biggest Sports Network
    Bil Rasmussen joins Joe and Tom this week for a conversation on the creation of ESPN in September 7, 1979, ESPN was launched. Entrepreneurial daring, irrepressible enthusiasm and a dash of good luck gave the world the first 24-hour television network. Once unleashed upon sports fans, ESPN’s impact forever changed the way we watch television. The man who had the dream, the founder of ESPN, is Bill Rasmussen. A life-long entrepreneur and sports fan, Rasmussen’s innovations in advertising, sports and broadcasting are too numerous to list, but they include the creation of “Sports Center”, wall-to-wall coverage of NCAA regular-season and “March Madness” college basketball, and coverage of the College World Series. He broke the advertising barrier to cable television by signing Anheuser Busch to the largest cable TV advertising contract ever.

    Bill talks about all the stories behind ESPN, from the initial pitch meetings all the way to the expansion of the network. Bill also talks about his new entrepreneurial project, Hometown Networks and how that company is disrupting the current Sports TV landscape.     Sabrina Hannam joins Joe and Tom this week for a conversation on law and sports business. Sabrina N. Hannam is Executive Partner and Chair of the Management Committee of the full-service Hannam Law Group, where Sabrina has a broad based corporate practice concentrating on professional sports leagues, owners, teams, media companies, private equity firms and venture capital transactions. Sabrina regularly represents clients in the areas of domestic and cross-border business transactions in sports including representing the executive management of Barclays Center, a sports and media arena, in the expansion or divestiture of certain business units spanning from Russia to Brooklyn

  • Episode 81: The Road Ahead for Collegiate Esports
    Tyler Schrodt and Jason Greenglass join Joe this week for a conversation on collegiate esports. Tyler is the Founder and CEO of the Electronic Gaming Federation. Founded in 2015, EGF works with high school and collegiate administrators across North America on varsity program development while running an intercollegiate tournament series and producing esports media. Jason is the Executive Vice President of Evolved Talent Agency, working tirelessly to address the ever expanding needs and demands in professional representation of esport athletes. Jason is also a former collegiate esports coach.

    Tyler and Jason talk about the history of collegiate esports and the challenges and opportunities that are ahead for universities. They also talk about the unique status of the student athlete.     Bryant McBride joins Joe and Tom this week for a conversation on his company Burst and all things sports tech. Bryant has over 20 years of experience as an executive, entrepreneur and investor. In the past 10 years, he has focused on building and nurturing technology businesses where family and sports have been strategic growth drivers. Bryant's entrepreneurial activities have resulted in the creation, growth and profitable sale of four companies - myteam.com, Vision Sports and Entertainment Partners, Football Scouts Inc. and Sports Technologies Inc. Prior to his entrepreneurial activities, Bryant was the VP of Business Development for the National Hockey League, where he led the evaluation and creation of new businesses, including international broadcasting, rink development and multiple grassroots fan base building initiatives.

     

    Bryant talks about his incredible entrepreneurial journey and about his newest endeavor, Burst. Bryant also shares his opinion on a lot of the most pressing issues in sports tech.
