Small Businesses Are Crying HELP. 'Macan-Deve' an Engineering Architectural & Construction Management Firm in White Plains, NY is one of them. CEO Donna Hager presented her dire situation during Goldman Sachs recent first 10,000 Small Businesses Virtual Capitol Hill Week. Donna was one of the 2,000 #10KSmallBiz alums who joined over 400 meetings with congressional representatives. Each company wrote a letter to their Congressperson. Excerpts from Donna's letter included she's homeschooling two 3rd graders while running a business that provides Architecture + Engineering Services to support MAJOR public infrastructure projects in the NY Metro area like the JACOB JAVITS Center Expansion Project. Macan-Deve is a certified WBE and a Section 3 Business Concern, which means that 30% of their workforce are low-income housing residents, seeking careers in Construction Management. Macan-Deve had a 147% increase in sales in 2019 and 2020 was looking even brighter. Donna initially kept all her employees on payroll through Retained Earnings, PPP funding, and EIDL but she's having to lay people off. She asked..."Representative Lowey, My question today is..... How can we, as the small business community, help Congress secure the federal funding needed to keep Government infrastructure projects alive in NY State so we can survive, continue to work ...back up at 100% capacity, get paid, and create more jobs....especially for low-income housing residents as a S3BC?"

PS I was inspired to do this show topic after reading about another struggling small business owner I know who also gave a 'virtual speech' to Capitol Hill. Lynne Lambert is a WBE with two brands severely impacted by Covid. NYC Subway Line – a 25 year old business which makes apparel and accessories under license from the MTA and Map’t Gear – which she developed in the Goldman Sachs program, a Custom Map SWAG for conferences and meetings – all of which have gone virtual now if they are happening at all.
'Resilience' is the process of “adapting well in the face of adversity, tragedy, threats or significant sources of stress.” That's the description from The American Psychological Association. If you know anything about me personally, you know 'Resilient' is my middle name. (Actually Jean but hey this is showbiz) I'm drawn to others who possess the same quality and I happened to catch an amazing article on the subject of 'resilience' in Forbes written by a business gal pal I admire. Paula Conway, is a best selling author with Harper Collins and President and Founder of Astonish Media Group in NYC. Knowing full well this trait does not come naturally to everybody she penned, "How To Strengthen Your Resilience For The Road Ahead" for Forbes Womens Media. It's great. Everyone should read it.
Paula says, "Our ability to muster up the energy and courage to meet the day’s demands and the mercurial nature of the pandemic we face requires added endurance and strength, something we need right now but also need to build for future reserves so that we may emerge even stronger."

Did You Collect 'Covid' Unemployment But Chose Not To Have The Taxes Withheld? Are You A Small Business Owner Who Scrambled To Grab 'Covid' Dollars To Pay Your Employees But Chose Not To Pay The Sales Taxes Or Other Taxes You Owe To The IRS And The State Right Away? Surely your intentions are good to catch up. But...what if you somehow cannot? These are common reasons people fall behind on their taxes. Individuals who procrastinate on paying often don't have the money to pay when taxes are due and become non-filers. Businesses that are in trouble and have no access to more cash to invest, don't pay the taxes right away because they'll 'catch up' in a few months. Often they don't. 'Taxx Guy' Mark Glazewski is painfully aware of the financial pain many of you are experiencing and he has some sage advice. Mark is a Tax Resolution Expert with a passion for helping others solve tax problems so they can sleep. Listen To my Fearure Interview With Mark today on the The Debbie Nigro Show.

That's The Spirit! Continuum Distilling a Distillery in Waterbury, CT is providing some “Relief” to American craft brewers in trouble due to the coronavirus. Continuum Distilling is making a name for itself through its high quality "beer-whiskey" made from 'reclaimed beer'. Connecticut Stay at Home orders forced nearly all 70 local craft breweries in CT to lay off workers and dump large quantities of craft beer. Continuum Distilling launched “Relief” its' new Spirit made from Craft IPA to benefit the CT Brewery Relief Fund. They're reclaiming the beer to save it from being wasted and also to give back to their brewery partners.
Founder and Head Distiller Brandon Collins, whose background is in both science and distilling, discovered a way to recoup materials not fully utilized in the beer brewing process and transform them into unique and exceptional spirits. With a Master’s Degree in Chemistry and 13 years in the pharmaceutical industry as a Protein Crystallographer (sounds intense) Brandon who has extensively researched the art of distillation sure sounds like a special spirit to me! He's todays' Feature Interview on the The Debbie Nigro Show.

We're All Searching For Answers. On CBS All Access - You Can Now Watch Some Unsuspecting People Get Answers They Never Saw Coming When They Meet Up With Psychic Medium Thomas John On his New TV Show "The Thomas John Experience". Thomas is my friend. I met him 10 years ago, through our mutual friend Laura Smith but knew nothing about him, and we connected simply on a shared sense of humor over cocktails. Over the years I've witnessed Thomas help hundreds of people get closure about lost loved ones by delivering them messages from 'the other side'. It's crazy for sure but it never gets old. Every single time I'm in awe myself. I've brought random people he would never know in a million years to some of his live events at the last minute, who got readings, and he blew them away. Thomas knows I like to make crazy fun business deals for people and he once mentioned he'd love to play a casino. I'm not psychic but I do have a knack for 'seeing' a possibility no one else does, and then putting the right people together to make it happen. A few years ago I was in Las Vegas (with Aunt Linda Nigro) and got a 'feeling' I could make his dream happen when I was in space that 'felt' right and met some producers that 'felt' right. (Kathi Glist and Alan Glist) I was right. And though it took some time (Understatement LOL) Thomas John opened at Caesars Palace this year in February right before Vegas shut down due to the coronavirus. I didn't 'see' that coming! I'll ask him Thomas if he did when he joins me for a Feature Interview on The Debbie Nigro Show . We could all use a little lift and some answers.
“Whether he’s behind the wheel of a rideshare in Chicago or grabbing a bite to eat in Los Angeles, psychic medium Thomas John’s powerful readings offer insight and closure, resulting in emotional and heartwarming moments.”

Losing Money In Vegas Is Not OK When It's Your Livelihood. Most people who work in Vegas are not big celebrities. They're hard working everyday people who provide the backdrop for the city that never slept.. until this year. Nearly 100 members of the Las Vegas Entertainment Community came together from behind shelter-in-place and self-quarantine restrictions to donate their time, talent and artistry and create this video of a Keith Thompson original song, "Needing Each Other.
The Las Vegas Executive Producers of this video are my friends Kathi & Alan Glist. Kathi Glist (A Valued Girlfriend In Business) joins me for a Feature Interview on The Debbie Nigro Show live from Vegas at to talk about this collaborative effort to raise much needed funds for 'The Composers Showcase' Entertainment Community and talk about how entertainment will make its way back to Vegas eventually so people can laugh and be entertained and forget about their woes.
TCS Entertainment Community Relief Fund benefits all the composers, lyricists and musicians whose names you probably don't know but got hit hard economically by the Covid-19 pandemic. As a non-profit 501(c)(3) they are able to accept tax exempt donations. That's The Spirit! My ongoing show theme during this Covid-19 nightmare has been to shine a bright light on people and companies who are 'pivoting' and being resourcefulness to not only stay in business, but also do something meaningful for others. My Feature Interview today sure gives me a big proud smile. (l had my people call her people to book her LOL) Hot off News12 in the NY area, is 22 year old Sydney Nigro, is my amazing niece. A young female entrepreneur, she is an event designer and owns "The Board Boss" - which makes really cool 'doughnut walls' for events with delicious donuts you can eat. Needless to say when the pandemic hit, she hit a wall herself when people canceled all their parties. She got resourceful and is now selling balloon arrangements customers can buy to send to front-line workers. Sydney is delivering ‘Year of the Nurse’ balloon orders to hospitals in the NY area. About those doughnuts? She takes 15% of every sale to buy and donate those donuts to front-line workers.
PS She's one of those hard working young folks hustling to pay back their student loans that I hope gets some relief from the proposed 'Heroes Act' reported in Forbes that I wrote about today.

Will It Take A Pandemic To Force You To Finally Face Yourself And Change For the Better? Probably. I imagine many of you have been forced by confinement to do a lot of thinking about your lives and what really matters to you. Like me, you're probably taking some time to review your past, ( whew I made a load of mistakes) while dealing with the current reality of the world (completely outrageous moment in history) , and deciding how you'll try move forward from here. (God willing we'll get of this sooner than later) You may be looking for more meaning, purpose, and clarity in your life as a result of all this, but not sure what your move should be. You're not alone.

Not Your Mothers Salmon Burgers! These Are Healthy and Inexpensive Because They Only Require Canned Wild Salmon. Nutritionist and Dietician Bonnie Taub Dix joined me during todays show to send some love to all the exhausted Moms out there being teachers, chefs and entertainers. Tough times for sure but the silver lining is it's a good time to cook with your kids to teach them nutrition. Bonnie brought up the salmon patties she makes with wild salmon from a can that her kids go crazy for and of course I've gotta try them, so I made her write up the recipe for me and you below. She's also got swap suggestions from your refrigerator and freezer to make all of your meals healthier. (Why I really like her? She's a former chubby kid like me who learned to get out of 'chubby') Bonnie wants to help save kids from the same feelings of bad self image that she and I both know often comes from being overweight. Bonnie had her ah-ha moment at 17, and changed her diet and changed her life. That’s why she became a dietitian nutritionist! Check out her website for more.
Bonnie Taub-Dix is also a Health & Wellness Contributor for TODAY.com, US News & World Report, and Livestrong.com
