We talk with certified Spiritual Director Pam Muller about working with our dreams starting with playfulness and trust. She shares a playful dream of her own about defusing a bomb by solving a riddle about pudding.
We then go into the topic of HSPs or Highly Sensitive Persons, a condition discussed by Dr. Elaine Aron and thought to affect up to 20% of the population. You can find out more about what that means at HSPerson.com. HSPs are what Pam calls “deep meaning makers” which makes them perfect for inner work such as dream exploration.
We then talk about the HadenInstitute.com and its programs in the Christian mystical tradition, Jungian psychology and dreamwork. They are having an upcoming virtual conference during the week after Memorial Day. Pam describes her role as Spiritual Director as being a combination of life coach and spiritual anchor and shares that she sees her role as that of being invited to sit in awe and wonder with her clients.
We then take a call from Ellen who share a prophetic dream and asks how this might be possible. We also get a check-in from a final caller who asks about the aboriginal concept of Dreamtime. We all agreed that it would be wonderful to have a guest on the Journal who knows more about this topic. If you know someone who knows about this or it you ever have a suggestion for a guest, please do contact me at [email protected].
We are doing a pledge drive during this show (I did edit out most of the pitching), and I would heartily appreciate your donation at KSQD.org. Any amount helps and when you donate, you get a chance to tell the station that you are a Dream Journal supporter!

We speak with Alaya Dannu about her experiences of receiving teachings in her dreams which she calls Ancestral Dreaming. We start by talking about her early experiences with deceased relatives speaking to her in dreams. She tells us that we can encourage these dreams by learning about and getting in touch with the diversity of our heritages with emphasis on the locations and mythologies of where we came from more than just the people that were our specific ancestors.
Alaya encourages us to “follow the breadcrumbs” of our dreams to enquire into our past lives as well and distinguishes between our conscious ancestry as opposed to our biological ancestry. We then touch into what Alaya’s dreams and visions have revealed about female-centered cosmology and the legend of the Seven Mothers as well the use of color in connecting with our dreams. Finally is there a connection between prophetic dreaming and deja vu?
Alaya Dannu will be presenting her views on Ancestral Dreaming at the IASD virtual conference coming up in June. Find out more at asdreams.org. A picture of Alaya’s painting that we speak about is published on the IASD Dreams and Ethnicity portal and can be seen there.
We take three callers. Christine inspires a conversation about how to approach our heritage when we aren’t aligned with the actions of our ancestors. Ellen speaks about looking for teaching moments in our dreams. And finally Karen wishes to thank Christine for calling and encourages her to surrender to her ancestors and to be open to what they will teach.
BIO: Alaya A. Dannu, MA is a woman of mixed heritage, born in Texas, raised in NYC. She endeavors to illuminate the nature and importance of ancestral dreaming and its ability to enhance academic and scholarly inquiry. Combining her background in Transpersonal Psychology and 20 years of dream documentation, part of her purpose in life is to re-establish and bring awareness to a female-centered cosmology that has been revealed to her in her dreams, trance/guided meditations, and shamanic journeys, as it is the foundation of her maternal ancestral tradition. This also serves as the topic of her dissertation thesis she is currently working on as a doctoral student. Her three year, three month, and three-week ancestral pilgrimage that was crafted and revealed to her by her ancestors in her dreams, served as a means to highlight the connection between her diverse biological ancestry and spirituality, further reinforcing the importance of knowing and honoring one’s origins, true identity, and purpose in life.

We discuss Angel’s presentations which will be called Dreams and the Arts and also Lucid Dream Drama.
We then talk about the diversity work that the IASD has been doing under Dr. Morgan’s watch as well as the Dream Study Groups Program.
We share an email from Santa Cruz listener Ray N. asking about practices that would help him bring his dreams into his music composition. Angel urges Ray to record any musical dream gifts immediately upon awakening and also to share the finished pieces with others. We end with Angel sharing the way her father helped her to learn to lucid dream when she was four years old.
We play pieces from Dr. Morgan’s original dream music including Charade and Ancestral Healing Dream. You can listen to Ancestral Healing Dream on the IASD’s Dreams and Ethnicity Portal.
Bio: Angel Morgan, PhD, President of IASD, is a dream psychologist, founder/director of Dreambridge, adjunct professor and research faculty in the Global PhD in Transpersonal Psychology program at Sofia University. “Bleed through” dreams, romancing our dreams and dreaming on medication. A conversation with Alyssa Spungen. We also touch on how sharing our dream in a group can deepen our experience of it and on Alyssa’s experiences in the dreamwork training program with the Institute for Dream Studies.
We work one of Alyssa’s recent dreams about driving someone else’s car and maybe falling into the water with it or not, and we answer questions from two listeners. Diane through Instagram asks Alyssa about a time in her life when her dreams were especially vivid. Naomi asks by email that if we have “negative emotional responses” in our dreams about someone we know in waking life, should we then distance ourselves from them?
We finish by Alyssa reading her dream-inspired poem titled, “Swing Set over the Moon.”

We speak with Lauren Schneider about how our dreams prepare us for what’s to come in waking life. She gives examples of her own precognitive dreams ranging from mundane problem-solving dreams to sublime encounters. She also shares dreams that her mother had over the years leading up to her recent passing. Lauren gives us ideas about how to successfully incubate dreams by ramping up our state of yearning and also how to use a daily drawing of tarot cards as a spiritual practice. Lauren talks about how the children of survivors are often themselves stressed or even die before their parents.
We then take a caller from Ray of Westside Santa Cruz who shares a dream of trying to get his empty plate filled with food. Lauren and Katherine explore ideas about how the dream might be offering help with Ray’s desire to put on some weight, and we also muse about the collective aspects of the dream relating to how we feed ourselves as a species going forward. We finish by addressing how dreams so often reflect aspects of the larger collective in addition to the particular needs of the dreamer.
Lauren Z. Schneider has been a psychotherapist, consultant, author, trainer and group facilitator for three decades. She pioneered an innovative approach to spiritual psychotherapy through dream work and Tarotpy®. Lauren lectures worldwide, facilitates workshops and on-going dream and Tarotpy groups for therapists and laypersons. Over many years, she has paid particular attention to prescient dreams which offer insight and guidance on collective issues, relationship dynamics, and navigating life from birthing to death.
Lauren’s new book will be available in early April and is called Tarotpy: It’s All in the Cards.

We speak with friend of the show Bill St. Cyr about many things starting with how common shame is and how the mean voices that we carry around make it hard for us to let in the love that’s all around us. We talk about how in our desire for safety we sometimes put ourselves in a kind of self-imposed prison and also about how test taking in a dream is often about shame. Bill shares a dream in which a deep sense of relaxation and acceptance came for him when a dear friend came up and put their forehead up against his.
We talk alot about how important it is to learn to hold ourselves in tenderness. I bring up the idea of having a treasure hunt with our dreams in which we look for moments of support and love in our dreams rather than always focusing on the difficult moments. We talk a bit about something called the entropic theory of the brain which draws parallels between the dreaming brain state and the brain on psychedelics and how they both can throw our brains into enough disarray that we come out of them in a new state.
We then take a call from Christine Barrington who shares a dream where she felt support, and she speaks about how we all learn best when we learn through connection. She also shares that a heretic is by definition one who choses.
Bill closes by encouraging us to bring tenderness to our life’s journey every step of the way.
Bio: Bill St. Cyr is a devoted student of the dream and of the process of coming into deep consciousness in the face of the trauma and alienation that is so endemic in our culture. Bill has over 10 years experience working with dreamers and teaching practitioners the practice of Embodied Dreamwork. He has presented and facilitated over 75 workshops, retreats and conferences throughout the US, Canada and Europe.

(Sorry for the delay in publishing this week due to a problem with the KSQD server.) We start by exploring some of the early spontaneous lucid dreaming experiences of our guest Dr. G. Scott Sparrow. He then shares some of his favorite lucid dreaming induction techniques and suggests that meditating before sleep can enhance lucid dreaming. We then talk about co-creative dreaming which is where the dream is viewed as collaboratively created by the dreamer and the dream itself. These dreams and working with them in waking life can help resolve long-standing issues in the dreamer. We then go through the steps of the FiveStar Dream technique.
Dr. Sparrow talks about his free online groups that are being offered now through the Dream Star Institute. He then shares some of his own dreams of religious figures and the opportunities that the dreams were pointing to and the resistances in himself that they highlighted. We talk next about Scott’s research into the supplement galantamine as a way of enhancing lucid dreams. He will be presenting this research at the IASD virtual conference in June as well as a workshop on the co-creative method.
We take two calls. The first call is from Barbara June from Charlestown, West Virginia who shares a life changing dream from years ago where she learned to be more accepting of herself and a new dream from this morning in which she sees that a “ghastly insect”. At first she tries to get rid of it but ultimately learns that it can be helpful. Scott quotes Rainer Maria Rilke, “Everything that is terrible is in the final analysis only something that wants our love.”
The second call is from Julie who shares a dream about a young girl that she finds in the garage. The girl is upset and is saying that she wants to know what’s going on. She recognizes that this may be a part of her both from her current waking life and also reflecting a pattern from her childhood.
BIO: Gregory Scott Sparrow, EdD, LPC-S, LMFT, is a full Professor in the Counseling Department at the University of Texas-Rio Grande Valley and a charter faculty member of Atlantic University in Virginia Beach. He is one of earliest lucid dream researcher, having a past President and Board Chair of the International Association for the Study of Dreams (IASD), and has maintained a psychotherapy and supervision practice for over 37 years. He specializes in existential, Jungian, family systems, and transpersonal approaches to therapy, and has developed a widely used approach to dream work based cocreative dream theory and his lucid dream research, called the FiveStar Method. He is founder of DreamStar Institute, which offers mentoring and certification in co-creative dream analysis. He has authored several books, dozens of articles and home-study courses in the field of lucid dreaming, religious experience, dream theory and dream analysis. He is founder and clinical supervisor for DreamStar Free Online Counseling.

Paul shares some of his visionary experiences and suggests that by inviting ancestors or loved ones to walk with us that we can deepen our experience of the subtle world. Paul then speaks about dreaming under the guidance of the soul and makes distinctions between the Midheavens, the Heavens and the Source. In the third segment, Paul talks about how we can work with our own dreams using meditative visualization and then offers tips on how to recognize shamanic elements in our own dreams and how to use our dreams to explore our own inner shamanic landscape.
BIO: Paul Overman, Ph.D., is an author and an East-West mind-body-consciousness explorer and researcher. A former practicing psychologist of forty-years, Paul currently is a member of Spiritual Directors International, conducting webinars, seminars and online courses – as well as giving personal assistance and training. We talk today about the transrational logic of dreams with Hadley Fitzgerald and following our soul’s calling. We begin by talking about how addiction coopts the natural longings of our soul and how commercial images also can overwhelm our inner archetypal images leading to feelings of unworthiness and depression. We also talk about Hadley’s idea that our birth chart represents our DNA or Divine Natal Agenda. Hadley shares a riveting story of a dream about her deceased mentor that totally changed the course of her life causing her to move across the country and start a new career.
We take two calls, one from Carol about a recurring dream of bliss with her ancestors and one from Mel who shares a tender dream about feelings coming up for her around caring for her mother who died four years ago.
Hadley Fitzgerald, MA, LMFT, has been a licensed psychotherapist for almost as long as she’s been an astrologer. She integrates poetry as well as images from the birth chart, from dreams, and from multiple Tarot decks in her teaching and her private client work. She has degrees from UCLA and Phillips Graduate Institute; a certificate in Ecopsychology from the Institute for Cultural Change; and is also a Certified Tarotpy® Practitioner. She’s the co-author with the late Judith Harte of Images of Soul: Reimagining Astrology, the author of the Psychological Astrology section of Under One Sky by Rafael Nasser, and an online educator with Astrology University. She believes we have another kind of DNA—a Divine Natal Agenda—and at the heart of her training and her work is the question: “What does your soul want of you?”
