On the way to a new piece of public, we discuss general and late season tactics. We are doing a lot of scattershooting and, quite frankly, it's for good reason. We enjoyed some great success so far this season, but we are starting to feel the pressure. It's December and neither of us have put a Texas buck on the ground yet. It's crunch time!
Luckily, while the rest of the country is talking bed to feed and hard hunting, us in the south are privileged to see rutting action all the way through the end of season. In this episode we talk strategy for the current hunt we are headed out on, as well as the rest of the season.

On the podcast today, we have a returning guest in Theodore Roosevelt Conservation Partnership president Whit Fosburgh. Whit is a fearless leader in our community fighting our battles in D.C. as hunters, fishermen, and trophy country lovers and he recently harvested a great north country buck. Don't miss his wealth of knowledge in this great interview!

Today we chat with Zach Ferenbaugh of The Hunting Public about the jumbo Iowa public land buck he killed recently. This is almost like a mini-full-length episode with as much information as he gives.

Today on the podcast we discuss a few foreign concepts... Decoying and hunting only from the ground. We chatted with Garrett Roe of Heads Up Decoy about what it takes to successfully lure in and harvest a mature buck ON THE GROUND! I know it sounds crazy, but the footage speaks for itself!
In 2010 Garrett's life as a whitetail hunter would change forever. He and his hunting partner successfully stalked, decoyed in, and lethally arrowed an absolute bruiser buck at 15 yds without a tree in site. They leared that with a few key stimuli, you can incite a buck's desire to show his dominance. It paid off big time and now, with the Heads Up Decoy, Garrett is addicted to hunting at eye level.

Today we interview our good friend and outstanding young deer hunter Lucas "Psycho" Cayko about the big public land buck he recently killed. Lucas is a family man and has put numerous family members on bucks this year. Listen in to catch the story!

The myriad of emotions involved with killing of an animal are sometimes hard to put to words. You've looked forward to that moment for seasons, cherished the time spent in nature, admired him as he lives in his element, then you execute a great shot to harvest the beast. Now the woods fall empty. This great being no longer rules his environment. There is no name for this emotion. It truly is it's own feeling.
In this episode, we take some time to reflect on the events of our rut hunt. We get pretty deep into some abstract topics. Not everything we discuss will help you kill a big buck, and we're ok with that. As hunters, we need to be in a constant state of self-evaluation to ensure that our lifestyle remains relevant.
It also gets pretty hot and heavy as K.C. airs a few grievances about the tone of some hunters when refering to The Rut. Remember, count your blessings people. Do not dread the great gift of hunting.
The Rut has been a wild ride. We are so thankful that we get to enjoy more of it here in the South! Good luck to everyone out there who still holds a tag. Remember, bow, rifle, black powder, shotgun, crossbow, whatever you use, we are all outdoors for the same reasons. Love one another and encourage everyone!
Don't pass over our "BIG BUCK BREAKDOWN" podcasts! These are short-form interviews with dudes who got it done! Just the meat and potatoes version of the story of killing a mature buck.
Here is our latest BBB with Erik Barber of Wisconsin.
There is a lot of great gear out there to help make your hunts more successful. We choose to use these tools, but there are many others that would work as well. Here are a few things that helped us out during this trip:
HAWK Razor Climbing Sticks
Sitka Fanatic Hoody
Fourth Arrow Carbon Arm

On the road headed back south, we unfold the story of our first public land buck of the 2017 season!
These are the words that we will use to try to bring justice to what we experienced and accomplished this past week. It will take years for us to truly process what happened in only an instant. Reliving that morning in memory daily, sharing our account detail by detail with close friends, watching the footage over, and over, and over again. All of which are cherished rights, but none can even come close to living in the actual moment on that day.
In the latest installment of our Big Buck Breakdown, we get a chance to chat it up with our buddy Sam Hogan from Michigan about a great buck the he was able to harvest with one of hs best friends. They used some really killer tactics to make success in less than optimal surroundings. Sam also drops some knowledge bombs about hunting ethics that really shoud hit close to home for all hunters.
Wish us luck on this Kansas public land! We've got a big buck sighted and we are hoping to close in soon!
