Hey Risers! Today I’m sharing my coaching call with Shelley, a Registered Mental Health Counselor Intern in Jacksonville Florida who is gearing up to launch her membership site for sober living.
In our conversation, we workshop the purpose for her site, marketing a podcast, sales funnels, and converting followers to customers. I also go over the three pieces of content to make when launching a product, why one freebie is enough, and my simple email marketing strategy.

Hey Risers, I’m so happy to finally say welcome back to The Empathy Rising Podcast! As some of you may know, I had to take an unforeseen break from the show for a couple of weeks. My move to Alabama has been anything but smooth. Everything that could have gone wrong did go wrong.
These past weeks I had a bunch of cool business opportunities go out the window, had a therapist coach run an ad against me, and on top of that been homeless. Every time I tried to pivot, I was met with huge stop signs. So I took the hint from The Universe and paused.
Even though my life has been a bit of a mess, this launch of Side Hustle was the most ease-filled and the most lucrative. I actually hit my income goal for the entire year of 2019 in June and it has radically changed my outlook on business and the way I plan to show up for the rest of the year. I want to share with y’all everything I’ve learned so far about simplifying my business, time management, and making decisions that are best for my business that also makes me happy.

Hey Risers! On today’s podcast, I’m talking with Side Hustle Graduate, Dr. Amber Lyda.
After years of working as a psychotherapist in mental health counseling centers and treatment facilities, Amber was ready to build a business for her dream lifestyle. She launched her online private practice, which then led to her coaching other therapists to do the same.
In this episode, Amber gives us a tour of her online therapy business. We talk about her journey as an entrepreneur. She gets super honest about her sales numbers and how she went from a $30,000 launch to a $70,000 launch.
If you’re connecting with Amber’s story and want to put systems in place so you can have a successful online income stream, click here to sign up for Side Hustler’s Support Group. There are only a few spots left! http://marissalawton.com/side-hustle

Is having an audience a big deal? I have a different take on this than a lot of people. Most people either say you don't have to build an audience, all you need is ads or yes you need a big audience.
Why am I a fan of building an audience, big or small? Two reasons: ONE, this gets more people into your sales funnel and if your content is compelling, higher conversion rates. Having eyeballs on your content is the first part of the funnel.
TWO, the very nature of building an audience will make you money! When people see you sharing your expert opinion they will DM you and see and they can work with you. Trust me, this happens to me all of the time.
Being visible is the #1 mechanism for making money.
If you want to launch a 1:1 coaching program, you don’t have to have an audience but you do need to be visible. To my introverts out there you may be wigging out at the idea of opening up online. In episode 20, Allison Puryear put it best when she likened visibility to childbirth. The labor of going live, networking and posting is exhausting but in the end, you get a beautiful reward. Sometimes we have to get out of our comfort zones to see the results we want.
Today I’m breaking down audience building into understandable, easy to follow steps. Let’s jump in!

What comes to mind for me when I think about expanding beyond the couch with an online income stream is just how avant-garde it really is.
The coaching/course industry as a whole is still really new and it's going through metamorphosis after metamorphosis as consumers decide how they want to spend their money and how online entrepreneurs decide how they want to serve.
Even though the idea of helping way more people than our license allows and making way more income than working 1:1 with clients is super appealing, we still need to give attention to the fears and apprehensions that come from going against the grain and breaking the mold.
Your therapy skills give you a unique ability to get your customer from where they currently are their desired result. Everything you do on a daily basis with therapy clients can be translated and packaged differently to be delivered to someone who is not a clinical client.
So, if you’re ready to include a revenue stream that includes something other than 1:1 client and do so in an ethical way that’s going to make you money, head over to: http://marissalawton.com/side-hustle

You've heard the phrase “you have to spend money to make money.” And while I wholeheartedly believe it’s true, we often leave out the important follow up advice that is “when it makes sense to do so.”
As an early-stage entrepreneur, you might think that money is your most important asset so the idea of investing in courses or coaching can be really scary and really difficult. But I'd argue time is a more valuable asset to any business owner regardless of where they are in building their business.
Today I'm talking all things courses, group programs, coaching, and masterminds. You'll learn if and when you should invest, what the options for expanding your business knowledge/expertise, who to pick to invest with, and why I think the occasional investment is a good idea.
When it’s the right time, and the right type of investment, and you’ve found the right person to invest with that it is a good idea to put your money where your mouth is once in a while so you can really explode your personal and business growth and really reach your full potential.

I’m so excited to have my very first guest on the podcast!
She needs no introduction, Allison Puryear.
She tiptoed beyond the couch back in 2014 when online income was still the Wild West, made her own path, and created Abundance Practice-Building.
In today’s episode, Allison shares her journey from clinician to entrepreneur and how she manages a clinical practice and online income at the same time.
From her agency days to the very beginning of Abundance Practice Building, her story rings so true to me. Allison gets super honest about her numbers, her audience size, how she had her first $200,000 launch and the expenses (and stress) it required.
We answer all of your burning questions about online business and it's a must listen whether expanding your practice is on the horizon or on your to-do list.

Welcome to episode number 19 of the Empathy Rising Podcast. A fun fact, 19 is my favorite number so I really wanted this episode to be special. My coach and I have been working through my content strategy - err what, you heard that right. The go-to for content creation is getting help with her content. And yes that is totally true. We all have room to learn and room to grow in our businesses. So I’ve been playing around with some new content techniques and strategies. But ultimately, I’ve been learning new ways to relate with you.
I’ve been encouraged to share a bit more of myself with you. My journey, my successes and my failures. And while I’m still taking baby steps into this, it felt a little weird for me to just talk to you about me for oh some 30 odd minutes. I’m much more comfortable teaching or training.
So this week I rose to the challenge of my coach - sort of.
I’m sharing my journey, but in a bit of a different way.I wrote you a love letter. So I’m going to read that letter on this episode. Here goes.

You’re all booked out with one on one clients.
Which is pretty much every therapist's goal when they open a private practice.
But what happens when you want to make more income?
Sure you can raise your rates or take on more clients but that's not sustainable. The next option is starting a group practice. But that requires you to think about buying a building, employee management and stepping away from your caseload.
There is another option that isn’t conventional but can be just as lucrative - online income!
Online income only requires you to do exactly what you already do on a bigger scale.
Everything you’ve learned, practiced, developed, and honed in your clinical work has prepared you perfectly to add an online income stream. Whether you’re interested in adding a course, a membership, or moving into coaching, workshops, or retreats you are more than qualified to increase both your income and your impact through online work.
Get ready for a nitty-gritty episode this week cause I’m diving into the latest trends for online income. What’s changed lately, and what’s continuing to work in 2019.
