  • Customs and Border Protection launches latest update to a very old system

The Automated Commercial Environment is an old system operated by Customs and Border Protection. It supports the movement and fees collection of ship cargo moving in and out of the United States. The Federal Drive got some of the details from the executive director of CBP's trade transformation office, James Byram.

  • What economists are saying about the FTC's new ban on non compete agreements

New rules proposed by the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) to ban workplace noncompete agreements haver stirred a lot of opinions. Workers' rights advocates say the move will help wages finally break out of their stagnant pace, however some aren't so sure about that. One of them is Brian Albrecht, Chief Economist at the International Center for Law and Economics, who the Federal Drive had a chance to speak to about the proposal.

Smaller defense agencies are receiving some much-needed help with the mundane, but important part of acquisition—the paperwork. • As the 118th Congress gets underway, it's hard for most to look past the possible debt ceiling show down

You've seen this before working in or with the federal government. A split government by party lines can mean possible issues when things like the debt ceiling come up. Most times a deal is struck right as time runs out or just before it. Could this time be different though? To get a sense of where things stand, the Federal Drive had the chance to speak with WTOP Capitol Hill Correspondent Mitchell Miller.

  • Maybe the Holman rule should be renamed the "No man rule"

A very old congressional procedure known as the Holman Rule has popped up lately. It allows a House member to amend an appropriations bill so eliminate a specific program or defund the salaries of those working on it. In the 19th century it was designed to rein in patronage. My next guess says it makes no sense any more. To discuss, the Federal Drive was joined by Bob Tobias, a professor in the Key Executive Leadership Program at American University.
