"I didn't finish - but throughout the whole race/trip I didn't quit... that's what they look for - who doesn't quit, who cracks under pressure, and who wants to go home. I ended up pulling a result during the last stage, placing 4th in the time trial. I was no longer one of the top in America, I was placing top 5 in Belgium - amongst some of the best in the last day of a stage race." - Eamon Lucas
Determination. Grit. Perseverance... this is what is takes to be at the top. At the end of the day, it is more than just your aerobic and anaerobic engine - you need to be more than just physically prepared, you need to be mentally prepared. If you want to make it in cycling, you need to be mentally prepared to keep grinding, doing whatever it takes to achieve your dreams - even if that means moving to a foreign country and keeping your culture at the front door. This mindset is truly at the core of the Kermesse King, Eamon Lucas. In today’s episode, Eamon and I talk about his life growing up in California, his aspirations of becoming a World Tour pro, racing bikes in Europe, developing a positive mental attitude, and what Belgium kermesse racing is really like. You can follow his journey on instagram, which is @eamon_lucas.

In today’s podcast, I chat with the one and only, Jonathan Lee - nationally competitive XC racer, Level II USA cycling coach, and marketing guru of Trainer Road. From humble beginnings, Jonathan has not only contributed to the growth of the well known cycling platform but found success on and off the road/trail. He truly is your definition of a hard working individual – ticking off his structured training, all while managing the balance of being a husband, father, coach, and podcast host. While discussing the importance of structured training, it becomes apparent that cycling success is directly correlated to consistent structured training. Cyclists often find themselves biting off more than they can chew in regards to time on the bike; however, consistency and persistence is the key ingredient to progress, even if that means lower volume but maintaining the structure. With that being said, Jonathan and I talk about the importance of structured training, building both your aerobic and anaerobic base, how to identify burnout, and modifying your training plan to improve your performance. I personally use Trainer Road and have had tremendous success using it. You can find out more by going to www.trainerroad.com

"One serving (115g) of broccoli sprouts contain 60% of your daily value of vitamin C, and contains as little as 35 calories per serving." @dougevans
In today's episode, I chat with Doug Evans - plant based advocate, Co founder of Organic Avenue, the founder of Juicero, and the author of The Sprout Book. Doug is truly a creative genius - navigating the world with the purpose to heal and empower individuals through plant based nutrition. During this conversation, he emphasises the fact that being proactive and not reactive is the key to living a healthy life. He is a man with a mission, a mission to open the eyes of the public - allowing them to see the power of plants and how they can be strategically incorporate sprouts into their own diet. During this chat, we talk about his connection with whole foods, transitioning to a plant based diet, benefits of juicing, benefits of sprouts, how to grow sprouts and where to start.

"Before I even supplemented B12 through an injection, I wasn't even deficient in it, but I just felt so good after I supplemented with it." - Ash Beech
Optimising your performance is so much more than just training. At the end of the day, it come down to nutrition, supplementation, lifestyle, and tuning in with your body. When you become 'one' with yourself, as cheesy as it may sound, you will truly achieve optimal performance gains.
Blood is one of the pillars to enhancing your own performance, both on and off the road. In today's podcast, Ash Beech and I dig deep into bloody analysis and how you can change your lifestyle to improve specific metrics - getting the most out of yourself. Topics include: iron, zinc, b12, and altitude training.

"There are a lot of studies that indicate that these plant based proteins are far more beneficial to your health and longevity as compared to animal based proteins that have hormones in them and all those byproducts."
Ryan Roddy - CEO of @kyokufit
Optimising performance was the foundation in which Ryan Roddy built his company, Kyoku. He is truly revolutionising the way we view protein shakes within the realm of endurance sports. His high quality, vegan friendly, non-gmo, and no colorant protein blend (40% mix of plan proteins and 60% superfoods) is truly tailored to your individual needs. With that being said, using a variety of plant proteins ensures optimal bioavailability - resulting in enhanced uptake of nutrients. During this conversation, Ryan and I talk about how and why he developed his company. Being a research (science) driven individual, Ryan walks us through how he wants to be on the cutting edge of personalisation - looking at biomarker detection through saliva sampling, DNA sequencing (kits), and integrating in platforms such as Garmin and Strava. This would completely eliminate asking questions prior to orders and seamlessly provide you with nutrition (superfood protein blend/other future products) based off of where you are in your training. This is the future ... Kyoku is looking to create a pretty elaborate protocol to your training demands.

"It's the law of averages - the more criteriums you do, the more time you will find yourself in a winning position. The more time you find yourself in a winning position, the more times you will go up for a win/podium." @camnicholls81
Consistency, persistence, and determination - these traits will certainly lead you down the path of success. On today's podcast, Cam and I dive deep into the weeds - talking about his journey into cycling, content creation, and how he became a dominant force in the local criterium scene. Is mixing it up in the bunch good enough? Not for Cam. We venture off into his aspirations to winning an A grade criterium and what it actually takes to become a great cyclist. Not only does it take good genetics and a bit of luck, but it takes structured training, racing experience and looking for those marginal gains. People are so focused on FTP; however, it really is such a small part of becoming good at racing. For the vast majority of people, structured training is the key to taking your performance to the next level. Are we susceptible to training too hard most of the time and not giving ourself enough time to adapt to new training stimulus? We look at the science and explore anecdotal experiences. You can follow Cam on YouTube (Cam Nicholls) and instagram (@cambnicholls81).
