He's the official shooting expert here at First Gen Hunter, and he's so good at it that he defends our country with his marksmanship. But in this one John put down the rifle and picked up the bow and chased elk in Colorado on a solo hunt. Here's how it went down.

There's all kinds of deer hunters out there. Chances are if you are a deer hunter you do things differently than I do, and that's okay. We all probably follow much of the same conventional wisdom, but that's something we all should re-evaluate. That's the name of the game for Clint McCoy. He treats each buck as a blank slate and carefully studies their habits to assemble a hunt plan that fits the profile of each buck he plans to hunt. It's a wild ride, and this episode dives into that and so much more. This is one of my favorite whitetail conversations and I'm sure it will be the same for you.

As Colonel Hannibal says while lighting his celebratory cigar in The A-Team "I love it when a plan comes together."

That's what this Pickin' Bones is all about. We are sharing a success story from an East 2 West Hunts client, Jarrett Parsons who harvested a 185" slammer in Colorado.

Man do I love hearing the stories of fellow First Gen Hunters, and this one is especially impressive. Andrew Lukosevic of Endurhunt began his journey as a hunter while he was in the Marine Corps. Since then he has hunted many different species in numerous different states, and has fully adopted the lifestyle as a hunter. We talk about his hunting experiences, his time in the Marines, and his thoughts on how military service relates to taking up hunting.

This is a dream hunt for this prairie boy. The Sandhills of Nebraska is a sacred place for those who love prairie. Many refer to this region as "The Last Prairie." It is a landscape very different from most other places you'll find. And mule deer call it home. Robie Day a fellow adult onset hunter has made this a hunt into a yearly tradition and has had the success that motivates a return trip every season. Caleb and I talk with Robie about the ins and outs of this hunt and get his advice for our own hunt coming up this season!

The early season is my favorite time to hunt whitetails. Their habits are much more predictable, the hunting pressure is much lower, the weather is beautiful, and there are more deer in more places. But as great as this point in the season may be, it still must be hunted correctly in order to avoid blowing up future opportunities later in the season.

Feik is one of the best bow hunters I know. He has built his life around the pursuit of these incredible animals, and is here to weigh in on some important discussions about successfully hunting deer through all phases of the deer season. We also continue the discussion on realistic expectations and use for trail cams. If you are a whitetail hunter this is the conversation for you!

Jake is back! We hit the prairie here in Iowa for some doves and unfortunately the hunting was better than the hunters. We saw a lot of doves, shot at most of them, came home with one of them. But we still had a blast kicking off an offseason worth of rust as we start into the 2023 fall hunting season. We also share a few funny stories and Jake talks about his hunting plans as a new dad.
