God expects you to be trustworthy. Two essential attributes are faithfulness and reliability. The trustworthy believer “lives by faith not by sight” (2 Col 5:7). Faith is an attitude that is learned. It’s confidence in God and His Word. Faith needs to be developed by learning God’s Word. “Grow in the grace and the knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ” (2 Pet 3:18). Being faithful to God means you have spiritual muscle. There are over 7,000 promises in the Bible. Do you have the courage, dependability and reliability to stand on those? Faith stands firm in God’s promises, but you need to know them. Faith gives you the ability to see what’s going on in the angelic conflict. Paul wrote to the church at Thessalonica, “we speak proudly of your perseverance and your faith in the midst of all your persecutions and afflictions which you endure” (2 Thess 1:4).

You have a mind and a heart, the invisible parts of your soul. Wisdom is stored in the heart and learned in the mind. When you hear the teaching of the Word of God and you learn it, it doesn’t do any good until you apply it in your life. “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, but fools despise wisdom and instruction.” (Prov 1:7). The objective of life is to get as much Biblical wisdom as possible to have foresight and discernment to make good decisions. Without humility, you can’t orient yourself to God’s gracious wisdom. “Arrogance only breeds quarrels, but wisdom is found in those who take advice” (Prov 13:10). The wisdom of God is never relative - it is always absolute. It doesn’t change. Divine viewpoint—a lifestyle of wisdom—is the highest form of happiness that can exist in this life. It is the sum of the Word of God you’ve learned and applied in your life.

Volition is the chooser, the decider in your soul. Developing a FLOT line in your soul is positive volition. Negative volition is refusing to believe or learn the Word of God. Negative volition is also refusing to rebound a known sin. “If I regard inquiry in my heart, the Lord will not hear me.” (Ps 66:18). If the Holy Spirit is quenched in your life by unconfessed sin, then there can be no faith perception because you’ve shut off the teaching ministry of the Holy Spirit. Many Christians fall into negative volition by being distracted by the details of life. That’s why we’re told in the Bible to put on the full armor of God to withstand the lures of the devil’s world (Eph 6:11-17).

God directs you to stay in fellowship with Him by using rebound (1 John 1:9) whenever you sin and to grow in the grace and knowledge of Jesus Christ. We all have a sin nature. It will neutralize you if you allow it. That’s why building a FLOT line in your soul is so important. Allowing your sin nature to control your thoughts and actions will make you weak and take you out of the plan of God. “The flesh (sin nature) wars against the Spirit and the Spirit wars against the flesh, they are contrary one to another” (Gal 5:17). If you don’t rebound your sin, divine discipline will either break you or it’ll take you. “Don’t be deceived, God is not mocked. Whatever man sows, he’s also going to reap” (Gal 6:7). While God forgives sin, He does not necessarily remove the consequences.

When you sin, it’s always against the Lord. It’s not against anyone else. As a Christian, when you sin, you break fellowship with God, you quench the Holy Spirit, and you try to live the Christian life in your energy, in your way, and it won’t work. We fool ourselves if we think our sin affects only us. Disobedience to God can bring hurt and ruin even upon the innocent. Sin’s effects go beyond the initial sinner. “Whoever is greedy for unjust gain troubles his own household, but he who hates a bribe will live” (Prov 15:27). Obedience is a consistent Bible theme. God’s blessings on nations and individuals are connected to those who are faithful and obedient to His commands.

If you hate someone, even if you haven’t killed them, you’ve committed mental murder. You are not allowed, as a Christian, to hate anyone. “Do not let bitterness rule your life or hatred or implacability or even malice” (Eph 4:31). The real you is what you think. Your spiritual life is lived in your thoughts, in your desires, and in your intentions. “Let none of you suffer as a murderer or as a thief or as an evildoer or as a busybody in other men’s matters” (1 Pet 4:15). Sticking your nose in someone else’s business is one of the worst things you can do. The Bible says, “If you judge, you will be judged.” Your rebellion to God and His laws will make you a subject of Satan’s plan and his desire to vindicate himself by using you as a sucker. Don’t let human viewpoint, the thinking of the world, manipulate you into doing something stupid. Get control of your emotions. God will handle injustices.

We have to learn to control our sin nature. The mental attitude sins of bitterness, jealousy, and revenge can motivate someone, even a Christian, to commit horrible crimes. “If you have bitter jealousy and strife in your heart, do not become arrogant and lie against the truth. For where jealousy and strife exist, there is unruliness and evil deeds” (James 3:14-15). God sees everything. Nothing is hidden from Him. God knows your thoughts, intentions, desires, and motivations. So face the fact you’ve sinned, and confess it to God before you get in deeper than you already are. Now is the time to be honest with God like David said in Psalm 32, “As long as I hid it I just dried up like an old man and died, but when I confessed my sin, You gave me the vitality of my life back.” You can’t be a criminal and serve God.

A woman's beauty comes from what is in her soul. “Charm is deceitful and outside beauty is vain, but a woman who fears the Lord shall be praised” (Prov 31:25). Here’s an amazing gal. “Strength and dignity are her clothing and she smiles at the future. She opens her mouth in wisdom and the teaching of kindness is on her tongue” (Prov 31:25). Wisdom is wonderful because it gives you discernment, the insight you don’t get any other way than through the intake of the Word of God. A woman's true strength and attractiveness are her inner beauty, which comes from her thoughts, and her joy in applying a divine viewpoint to the circumstances of life. The shape of the soul is what matters!
