The Give Me Five Podcast: An Uncultured Look at Pop Culture and Nostalgia

Week one of the Summer of 87, we are jumping right into the jungle with Predator. One of the quintessential 80s movies AND Arnold Schwarzenegger movies. Listen as we discuss the movie, how it holds up today, jocular 80s dudes and bad pu$$y jokes. We also touch on the history that week in 1987, and the movies and music at the top of the charts.

Then stay tuned for our question of the week based on the original Predator actor being replaced (if you don't know, you MUST listen) What are the top 5 actors replaced during filming of a movie?

Movies are making their way back into the theater and so is Rob. He checked out The Hitman's Wifes Bodyguard is it worth going to the theater for?

We also review Fatherhood (makes you feel feelings) and the Netflix pop music documentary, This is Pop.

Last but not least we have a retro review, right out of 1987, U2's The Joshua Tree, kicking off our Sumnmer of 87 series.

Remember to tune in next week for Side B, where we begin the Summer of 87! Our summer long review series of the movies that made 1987 great. And we will be covering them the exact week that they came out but 33 years later. We will begin with Predator.

It's also a friend of the show's birthday, so join us as we unveil our top 5 jobs that Matt aka. Juubles had before his current one. (which he will inevitably be fired from, if they hear this)

From June through August we will be celebrating the summer of 1987 the only way we know how. Through it's pop culture! For our side B episodes we will review movies in real time, the exact week they came out, just 33 years later. This will take us through classics like Predator, Robocop and Adventures in Babysitting, but also some lesser known movies like Disorderlies, Dragnet, and Jaws 4.

So spend your summer vacation with us, in 1987.

Some call it the best B movie of all time, Omar calls it... his pick for movie of the week. Hard Ticket Hawaii has everything that 14 year old versions of us would want. Nudity! Bazookas! Nunchucks! Throwing stars! And... Cancer Snakes! Anyway, check out our review and some music breakdowns of BTS and other top 10 songs that prove how old we are.

Then stay tuned for our question of the week as posed by the movie, who are your top 5 James Bond actors in order?

In a year when not a lot of new movies came out, somehow Willie's Wonderland escaped our radar. A movie starring Nicolas Cage fighting for his life in a Chuck E Cheesesque pizza place against animatronics. It is exactly what is promised and such a fun little treat.

Omar brings some depth to the show by reviewing Matthew McConaughey's book Greenlights. Yes we talk about the bongo thing.

Also, a little bit about Loki and National Record Store day.

Remember to tune in next week for Side B, where we cover the movie Hard Ticket to Hawaii a movie about bazookas, bazoombas and snakes.

Zak Loy has stood in front of thousands of people and wowed them with his guitar and multi-instrumental skills. But how will he handle the guest musician quiz?

Zak has played with Live, Ed Kowalczyk, ALPHA REV and countless other musicians in his hometown of Austin. He not only joins us this week, but picked the 1993 movie The Thing Called Love, about 4 country musicians struggling to get noticed while falling in and out of love. This film was overshadowed at the box office by being River Phoenix's last film (at the time)

We talk about life as a touring musician, his career path, what it is like staring out at 30,000 people and just music in general.

Then stay tuned for our question of the week, Best movies / final roles of actors that have passed away?

There was a LOT of content this week. So much so that we had to ignore news in order to talk about the Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It, LOKI, Sweet Tooth and Those Who Wish Me Dead. So it is a review heavy week with some crazy Florida stories as well. I believe we found the King of Florida!

Remember to tune in next week for Side B, where we cover the movie The Thing Called Love with a very special guest, Zak Loy, the touring guitarist from the band Live and Ed Kowalczyk's solo projects.

Another week, another movie that doesn't live up to its sweet VHS box art. But, if you are a fan of GI Joe ridiculousness you can see yet another failed attempt to capture the magic of the 80's cartoon. Megaforce was an attempt by Mattel to capture the marketing power of Star Wars or GI Joe, they just forgot to make the movie interesting... or... well... good. But we watched it and had some fun with it, so check out this episode.

Then stay tuned for our question of the week, What are the coolest 80's headbands?

You think you know someone after doing 187 podcast episodes with them. Well when asked some obscure cheerleader drama questions, Rob nailed the answer and is now on a watch list.

In other surprising news he also really enjoyed the latest Disney live action film. which leads me to believe he was kidnapped by aliens and I'm dealing with a clone.

There's also some rare music chat this week as we discuss the Black Keys new album Delta Cream. It's some Mississippi blues for the summer.

Last but not least Netflix has released the second half of Lucifer season 5 and it opens the door for... well... more Lucifer!

Remember to tune in next week for Side B, where we cover a movie known for its cool motorcycles, gold jumpsuits, and VHS box art instead of the actual plot, Megaforce!

If you were watching a movie that featured a kid riding around in a motorcycle wheelchair made by Gary Busey, ande fighting a werewolf you would know exactly what decade that film was made. Even if you never saw Stephen King's Silver Bullet you would know that this sort of tomfoolery only happens in 80's movies. So check out our review of Silver Bullet and stay for our question of the week...

What are the craziest uncles in film?

Don't watch this. But definitely enjoy our pain as we did watch it.
