The Give Me Five Podcast: An Uncultured Look at Pop Culture and Nostalgia

I definitley didn't allow Chat GPT to write the description of this episode. Nope... we absolutely did all of these intelligent sounding things and definitely did not just harass Omar with sound effects from our soundboard.

Join hosts Greg, Omar, and Rob in the latest episode of "The Give Me Five Podcast" as they embark on a thrilling review of some of the most highly anticipated releases in pop culture. The episode kicks off with an in-depth analysis of the documentary "Bono and The Edge: A Sort of Homecoming." The hosts share their impressions of the documentary's storytelling, behind-the-scenes insights, and the impact of U2's iconic frontman and guitarist.

Moving on to the world of film, the hosts delve into the murder mystery genre with a review of "Murder Mystery 2." They discuss the film's twists and turns, suspenseful moments, and the performances of the cast, while also exploring its connections to the original film and how it stacks up as a sequel.

Shifting gears to television, "The Give Me Five Podcast" team shares their thoughts on the second season of "Carnival Row." They analyze the show's intricate world-building, character arcs, and visually stunning elements, while also discussing the show's themes and storytelling.

With a keen eye for drama series, the hosts then turn their attention to the fourth season of "Succession." They discuss the show's darkly comedic tone, the dynamics of the Roy family, and the performances of the cast, as well as examining the latest twists and turns in the Roy family's power struggles.

Finally, the hosts explore the fantasy genre with a review of the second season of "Shadow and Bone." They discuss the show's intricate magic system, political intrigue, and character development, while also examining how it compares to the source material and the overall impact of the show.

With their witty banter, insightful observations, and deep knowledge of pop culture, "The Give Me Five Podcast" hosts provide a captivating and entertaining review of these highly anticipated releases. Tune in to join them on this pop culture adventure as they unravel the mysteries of Bono and The Edge, Murder Mystery 2, Carnival Row Season 2, Succession Season 4, and Shadow and Bone!

The question of the week is about pairings. What are the oddest pop culture pairings that somehow worked out? This could be movies, tv, music or life.

Huge week for movie reviews. Dungeons and Dragons was a ton of fun. We discuss whether or not it is good for hardcore fans of the game and "normies".

Super Mario Brothers also came out this week and we were able to see it early. Critics and audience scores differ wildly. We discuss the film and our past memories with the franchise.

We also cover the orgy of violence that is the John Wick series and a new Rob Lowe series on Netflix.

The question of the week is about death! What characters would have clearly died from injuries suffered in a movie but due to movie magic they somehow survived?

Yes there is a movie called Cocaine Bear, and yes its based loosely on a real story and Yes Rob saw it. so how is it?

Mandalorian is back with season 3, but you may need to catch up by watching... Book of Boba Fett.

Omar checked out the moody mind-screw that was 1899 and somehow Greg had no idea that Daisy Jones and the Six (a music show partially based in Pittsburgh) existed until he scanned Amazon Prime.

And the Top 5 question this week is what movies were you shocked that Hollywood greenlit?

New Marvel movie Ant Man and the Wasp Quantumania. Rob gives us his review from right after he saw the movie and from a few days later after letting it percolate.

Greg checked out You People a race-centric Netflix comedy with a great cast including Jonah Hill, Eddie Murphy, David Duchovney and Julia Louis-Dreyfus.

And the Top 5 question this week is what are the best "shrinking" adventures? (thinkgs like Ant Man or Honey I shrunk the Kids)

Ghosts, wizards and the ability to decipher lies are on tap this week.

Lockwood and Co is a tale about a world where ghosts are real and young people have the ability to see and fight them. This very British show his Netflix last week and we compare it to other spooky ghost-fighting shows.

Poker Face on Peacock is a fun little crime procedural developed by Rian Johnson. While tonally a little weird (despite everyone getting murdered) it is very entertaining.

And the Top 5 question is different this week. We are answering 5 questions about our belief and experiences with ghosts!

After a short delay, Hunters season 2 arrived. A show that oscilates between serious alternate history, and sci fi absurdity yet is wildly entertaining and definitely makes you think "what if". In this story, Hitler has survived into the 1970's and it shows what would happen if he stood for trial instead of his bunker suicide.

The Legend of Vox Machina brings its irreverent humor back to Amazon Prime. This season focuses more on action and less on humor. Is it as entertaining as season 1.

We alaso check out some foreign entries, Omar reviews Quebec-set crime thriller Three Pines, and Rob watched the bzzy Korean scifi film Jung_e.

And the Top 5 question is back this week. We discuss the top 5 shows or movies set in alternate history.

In an early episode we spoke at length about bad video game movie adaptations. (Mario Bros anyone?) but The Last of us has hit HBO plus with a huge amount of critical fanfare and excellent buzz.

Jack Ryan season 3 also was released a few weeks ago and we continue to marvel at John Krasinski's take on the Clancy character. This season takes on the far fetched idea of Russia trying to retake former territories. (sarcasm)

And Night Court is back! How does the notoriously zany show line up with current tastes.

Due to our Top 5's of 2022 Episode last week, we are catching up this week with an all-review episode! No frills. No top 5. No extended Rob rants about things he hates. (ok maybe a few of those)

This week we cover The Pale Blue Eye a fictional mystery movie starring Christian Bale as a detective solving crimes with Edgar Allen Poe.

We stay in the realm of mystery with The Glass Onion by Rian Johnson available on Netflix, where we get to see what Benoit Blanc has been up to since the wonderful surprise hit Knives Out.

Black Bird is another streaming show (Apple TV) that snuck under the radar, but after some Golden Globe wins, we finally get a chance to see one of Ray Liotta's fiunal roles.

We also check out The Menu for some foodie satire, and Kaleidoscope, the watch in any order you'd like show on Netflix. Is it a gimmick or is it another interesting way of playing with genre television.
