The Give Me Five Podcast: An Uncultured Look at Pop Culture and Nostalgia

Kate Bush is on top of the charts, Top Gun is number 1 and we are big mad at Russia, so clearly we are reliving 1986. At least the music is good. So put on your favorite Poison song and lets talk about: Top Gun: Maverick does it bring back that loving feeling we had towards the original? How are the visuals, sequences, acting and of course the plot? Obi Wan Kenobi: the fans wanted it, so what will they find to complain about? Will it fill in the gaps and tell us how Obi Wan seemed to age 35 years over a decade? And check out our special episode on Stranger Things season 4 pt 1 right above this episode in the feed. Our question of the week is what are the best call-signs / military code names in movies? And stick around for a special birthday top 5 list for one of our Patrons, Adrianna! Happy Birthday Adri! Stranger Things Season 4 Part 1 is out now, and to avoid spoiling it for our regular listeners, we decided to release a special episode for all the bingers out there. In this episode we cover the characters, their arcs, Vecna (the big bad), Russian gulags, 80s music, Kate Bush, and the general plot of the show. We aren't as entertaining as the show itself, but we hope to add another layer of goodness and entertainment to your enjoyment of the show. The Give Me Five Podcast is on Patreon. A news item about the Optimus Prime Lego set turns a bit naughty this week, as Rob lets us know that everything is NOT a dildo, medically speaking. Then we get romantic with Sandra Bullock and Channing Tatum's new treasure hunting romantic comedy The Lost City (Paramount +). We close out our Moon Knight and Winning Time coverage, and discuss how much Mike Meyers is too much Mike Meyers with The Pentaverate (Netflix) Our question of the week is ... non-existant, because Rob and Greg are attending various events this weekend. This week we've got 2 topics. Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness. In which one can pontificate that there may be a different version of this podcast in a different version of this universe that is hosted by actual functioning adults. Omar gives a spoiler free review of Ozark, so if you are on the fence about starting a 4 season series, you can check it out without any worries. This episode Rob gets mildly annoyed but disguises it as rage. The guys discuss spiders using catapults to launch themselves to post-coital safety, also Rob enjoys spider porn amd Greg and Omar are less than happy about it, a Florida woman uses a cat as a weapon, Greg disturbs us all with his review of Conversation with a Killer: The John Wayne Gacy Tapes, the guys circle back to spider porn because that's not weird, then (just in case) spider porn continues to be a thing, Omar travels through time with season 2 of Russian Doll, and Rob has the mildest of issues with the movie The Northman, so he treats us with a review that leaves Greg and Omar wondering if he enjoyed the movie or not, and also...some spider porn! Our question of the week is the top 5 movies you were looking forward to that ended up being huge dissapointments? The Give Me Five Podcast is on Patreon. A week ago, Greg had never heard of Jimmy Saville, and he kinda wishes he was still blissfully unaware of this British sex criminal. But, he did see the Netflix documentary Jimmy Saville: A British Horror Story and reviews it here. Rob watched Everything Everywhere all at once and gives a short review in hopes that one of us will find the time to see it. We also checked out Taboo by Tom Hardy and a fantasy book series The Dragons Blade Trilogy by Michael R Miller. Our question of the week is simple... top 5 dragons in pop culture. Just a friendly bit of advice from the Give Me Five Podcast, never beat your mom. Certain Florida people named Fudge need to hear it, and now you do too. Disney + / Marvel's Moon Knight had some off-screen action but an intriguing story and excellent acting. We are looking forward to how the 6 episode limited series plays out. And on a lighter note, Omar watched Margin Call, a lighthearted movie about... checks notes... the 2008 financial crisis and how it destroyed peoples livlihoods and futures... ok, maybe not so lighthearted but well made! We also talk about Pixel Coke (but Omar still isn't quite sure what it is), new listeners, we discuss one of Greg's all time fave's...The Crow, Moon Night is solid, Morbius...is not but Morbius probably enjoys the smooth flavor of Pixel Coke, we are treated to a Rob's Rant and thorough spoilers about Morbius, Rob would also like to cordially invite Sony to go elsewhere, post-haste, Jared Leto seems to be a cult leader of some kind, that's weird, and finally Movies-to pirate, or not to pirate.
