The Give Me Five Podcast: An Uncultured Look at Pop Culture and Nostalgia

Tragedy struck when Taylor Hawkins, the fun-loving, genuinely good guy drummer from the Foo Fighters passed away. Our condolences to his family, friends and bandmates. On the show we talk about Paramount's Halo, Netflix's Vikings: Valhala, and a show about a toymaker that hates kids, making things for kids, Making Fun. We've also got our thoughts on Will Smith assaulting Chris Rock at the Oscars, we also discuss Oscar winners, our WTF story gets serious, "Vikings: Valhalla" kicks ass on Netflix, "Making Fun" is a fun watch, a taco-spitting T. Rex is thrown in the mix, the new live action HALO is awesome...despite the hardcore online fans, and of course Other Penis/Penis Remastered, and we get into the Top 5 Oscar snubs with the help of our Patron of Maximum Awesomeness, Alec (not Alex)! Me Five Question of the week is what are the biggest Oscar snubs? The Give Me Five Podcast is on Patreon. There has been a lull in movie and streaming releases, and several interesting music announcements, and since one of our hosts is away, we are doing a special music episode. We invite special guest Alec to join us to talk about upcoming releases by The Black Keys, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Jack White, Eddie Vedder, and Crosses. We introduce each other to some hidden gems, (songs that you may have missed), and we take a close look at a a documentary about Keith Richards musical influences (Keith Richards: Under the Influence) and we finally got the opportunity to watch Licorice Pizza, Paul Thomas Anderson's love letter to the early 70s. Me Five Question of the week is what songs have the best spoken word interludes / openings / portions?

We start our road to making millions (and you're all coming along) with the new CroceCoin. Our main topics this week are Disney/Pixars Turning Red, and the Netflix / Ryan Reynolds time travel adventure The Adam Project. We also cover some sad news as we lose William Hurt and Scott Hall, citizens of Russia can no longer enjoy our rants, Kirwin uses precious spare time to (allegedly) kill off celebrities, we discuss who should be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in a spontaneous Top 5, HBOMax and Discovery + may become one unified streaming service, Walker Scobell is great, Rob hates, and seeks out, time travel plot holes, Ryan Renyolds is also awesome, it's possible that Terry Crews doesn't know any carbs and doesn't care to meet any, Greg and Rob debate what "go see it" means, although not as violently as I would have liked, James Hong rocks, we talk cultural realities in movies, and we discuss whether villains should be complex characters or nor, with our usual zero results Me Five Question of the week is about the upcoming Rock and Roll Hall of Fame nominations. Who are the top 5 musicians / bands that should get in to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2022?

The Batman came out this week and we wanted to review it in the most spoilery way possible. So rather than force our listeners to avoid 1 segment, we decided to do a special episode for those of you who have ventured out to the theater.

We talk about the story, Robert Pattinson, the Penguin, Riddler and other villains. Catwoman. The new look Gotham and Batmobile and much much more.

Opening song is a cover of Something in the Way by Nirvana, but do yourself a favor and buy the original.

Our big topics this week are Uncharted starring Tom Holland and Mark Wahlberg, Our Flag Means Death the new TRUE?! pirate comedy on HBO Max, produced by Taika Waititi and starring Rhys Darby (Murray, present..) Fred Armison, and Leslie Jones. and the story of the 1980's Lakers - Winning Time: The Rise of the Lakers Dynasty.

And that's not all, we also manage to find the time to chat about: God of Warcreative team looks awesome, Rafe Judkins is a great name, Omar loves The Expanse, Iron Man and Children of Men are great movies, Upload season 2 coming March 11th, Omar is horrified at the thought of PB and pickle sandwiches, Playboy models (yay), who is Jerry West, the Chrysler Building???, A Discovery of Witches, Uncharted takes a legend of Magellan's gold on a seemingly awesome adventure, We talk Free Guy and West Side story, Greg learns that running in sand is as Tricky as a Run-DMC song, Alec gets musical, Rob and Greg get jiggy with Omar for his birthday, and sadly, Rob's heart is broken, and a Romanian of certain distinction gets birthday wishes from, Scott, Adri, Juubles, and Alec and he's still feeling weepy about it.

Me Five Question of the week is all about Omar, so stick around and learn a little bit about our co-host.

Archive 81 is a Netflix streaming show based on a prose podcast, and while we aren't quite done with The Give Me Five Podcast Netflix show contract negotiations yet, we do review this spooky VHS time travel mystery show. Rob checks out Elden Ring, and extraordinarily hard game from the Lost Souls creators, and Omar watched Jolt, a Kate Beckinsdale movie, that he wished he didn't watch.

We also wax poetic on so many topics:

The 3 Stooges, ODB, and like most things Omar misses Rob's Joke, we go back in time to talk about Kurt Cobain/Mark Lanagan and to marvel at Courtney Love telling Mark Lannigan he needs to slow down, Indiana Jones 5 and our hopes and dreams, The Penguin TV show is promising, our brief discussion on the Ukraine invasion, a "no disney movies" situation, we learn that Rob is an overthinker, Rob switches characters after 4 hours, breaking bottles over heads, not-so-found footage, Kurt Loders age makes us face our mortality, and bad cosplay.

Peacemaker made a huge splash on HBO Max and while we covered the first half of the show a few weeks ago, we revisit it in all its bloody, patriotic Nazi-punching glory. Gunn, Cena et al have done well. We also review The Kingsman (out on Hulu and HBO Max) and finally we talk about Netflix's entry in the the Texas Chainsaw Massacre. Is it Texas Chainsaw Massacre (1974) or Texas Chainsaw MAssacre: The Next Generation?

We also talk about:

Midnight Mass, Haunting of Hill House, LOTR, Marvel streaming shows, 5 80's/90's movies, Alpaca Sex, Florida Man, McDonalds Nap, Shamrock Shakes, #FryFight, Human Torpedo, Hair metal, WigWam, James Gunn, Chainsaw Massacre Death Order, Robs movie crystal ball(s), #RobRage, Shit Spray, History in Kings Man, Realistic historical settings

THe WWI Trenches, Assassination of Archduke Ferdinand, Rasputin, Rob Rants

This week the Continuity Dolphin may have expired. But we press on and talk about Hulu's Tommy Lee / Pamela Anderson sex tape dramady Pam and Tommy, the Legend of Vox Machina, and the final chapter of The Book of Boba Fett.

But that's not all, we also discuss bad strip clubs, Jurassic World: Dominion, Moon Knight, Doctor Strange, Chip and Dales Rescue Rangers, Florida Women on Motorized Suitcases, Super Bowl Halftime Shows, Eminem, DrDre, Dungeons and Dragons, Waiting for Group, and Atomic Blonde.

We also ask the Give Me Five Question of the week: What are the best performances by actors playing real people?

We have a new set-up for the show and things are a bit "hot" Sorry. But speaking of hot, we talk about Amazon Primes Reacher, featuring one of the largest humans this side of Jason Momoa. Rob gets hot about an audible book, and Omar watched a documentary about Clive Davis who was responsible for many of the hottest albums ever produced. On top of that we talk about Eddie Vedder vs Nikki Sixx and our crazy state, Florida.

I'll admit it, a documentary about the Sparks Brothers AND a podcast about the Velvet Underground (No Dogs In Space) introduced me to this movie. Get Crazy is a music movie romp from the early 80s, that came out to piggyback on the success of Spinal Tap, Airplane and several other parody movies. But nobody told the musicians about the parody part, or potentially even the writer and director. But, its a pretty fun look into 1983.

Stay tuned for our question of the week based on the movie, what are the top 5 best "needle-drop" movies? (ie movies that use already written songs for their soundtracks.
