Happy Thanksgiving from The Give Me Five Podcast!

Ghostbusters: Afterlife has hit the theaters, and as it was Rob's most looked-forward-to movie of 2021, he rushed out to see it. Did it live up to expectations? Were there surprises? How was the humor? Is this the Ghostbusters from our childhood?

Greg finished the book Storyteller by Dave Grohl. A fun series of stories by a music fan that just so happened to become a rock god. He tells stories about Nirvana, Kurt Cobain, Paul McCartney, Tom Petty, Joan Jett and more. But the true heart of the books shows itself when he starts talking about his daughters.

And last but not least Cowboy Bebop arrived on Netflix. While audience opinion is mixed, Greg, the anime-averse host has enjoyed it so far. (theres also a Corgi in it so he's easily swayed)

There is a rare Side A Give Me Five this week: The best movies named after a song featured in the movie.. or is it songs named after movies... chicken. egg. Just listen.

Don't be a bummer at a concert. Especially a concert all about love and enjoying life (and especially if you are likely lying) because we will tell a story about you to start the podcast.

Then we will talk about the latest Marvel (MCU) film Eternals and how it fits in the larger scheme of the Marvel universe. Is the dynamic of the team and following them throughout the years worth the extra exposition and lack of action?

Somehow Netflix managed to get Ryan Reynolds, Gal Gadot and Dwayne Johnson on a straight to streaming heist / con / adventure movie. You just know there is gonna be some great trash-talking.

And an animated series based on League of legends has arrived on Netflix as well. Rob checked it out and while it's time shifting is jarring, he seemed to enjoy the overall film.

And tune in on Monday for side B, where we break out a surprise film because.... uh.. well we haven't figured out what it is yet.

We on the Give Me Five Podcast are pretty ridiculous, so we rarely cover heavier more intense sci fi shows. But Foundation caught our attention, so we do our best to review the "unfilmable" show on Apple TV based on Isaac Asimov's novels.

We also cover a film with Tom Hanks talking to non-living items, while stuck in a desolate wasteland and getting baked by the sun. No, not Castaway, but Finch, about a man, and his dog, and his robot. It's Tom Hanks, you better believe we're watching.

And last but not least, Night Teeth is a stylish vampire story set in LA, that should probably be getting more attention, especially it's likeable lead and extremely cool opening sequence.

Please note that there will be no Side B episode this week, due to one of our hosts coming down with a case of "Going to EDC", but this does allow for Rob to do a rare side A Give Me Five, this time, featuring films with actors / actresses spending most of the film alone.

The Buzzfeed list of underrated horror films strikes again this time leading us to what we thought was a lumberjack horror film, but instead was the tale of hoofed creatures terrorizing a small New England logging town. Starring Kevin Durand and Bianca Kajlich this dreary horror drama shows a sheriff dealing with immeasurable loss and the danger of an unknown creature invading his town. It's an interesting cold-weather watch with great performances.

Stay tuned for our question of the week based on the movie, what are the top 5 worst monster reveals in movies?

Halloween week was busy, but we still managed to finish some books, and shows we were watching. Omar binged Shameless and brought his review. Does watching it for an extended period of time make you feel like a bad person?

Both Rob and Omar take us into the world of Another Life, season 2, a sci-fi show described as part Alien and part Star Trek.

Speaking of Sci-Fi we also chat a little bit about the life of George Lucas, while reviewing the book George Lucas: A life. Telling tales of the creative mind behind Star Wars, Indiana Jones, Willow and Strange Magic(?)

And next week on Episode 215 Side B we review a horror film chock full of forest creatures and lumberjacks, Dark Was the Night

I guess blindly trusting a Buzz Feed article isn't always the best plan. But While looking for a new horror movie to watch on Halloween, I found this article: 10 Underrated Horror Movies . The movie listed several movies that were new to us, so we chose Harbinger Down. A fairly innocuous body horror film that takes place on a crab boat in the arctic. The movie has several similarities with The Thing, and Alien, which is no surprise considering the origin. But is it worthy of checking out for reasons other than its decent practical effects and the always amazing Lance Herricksen.

Stay tuned for our question of the week based on the movie, what are the top 5 body horror sequences in film?

The novel they said could never be correctly made into a film was made into a film for the second time. So is the latest incarnation of Dune worthy of it's source material? We had a Dune aficionado join us to explain the ins and outs of the Herbert created universe.

Joe Hill's Locke and Key was a fun horror surprise on Netflix a few years ago, now it is back for season 2. What surprises await the Locke family.

And next week on Episode 214 Side B we review some crowd-funded horror, Harbinger Down starring Lance Henriksen

This week Rob picked Ernest Scared Stupid. A silly little Halloween Movies featuring a troll with a sinus infection, a simplistic garbageman, a bunch of kids being turned to wood and a really smart dog. The movie was fun to watch and even our 8-year old correspondent joined in with his own thoughts.

Stay tuned for our question of the week based on the movie with our special guest Ethan, an actual kid!, what are the top 5 kid friendly movies for Halloween?

Omar's internet is still on the fritz so Rob and Greg bring the spooky. We discuss the extreme violence and controversy of Halloween Kills. The movie made some interesting decisions. Did they work?

Rob checked out Under Wraps on Disney Plus but felt that it was definitely for a younger crowd. What makes a show look cheaply produced anyway?

Speaking of kids, Addam's Family 2 came out and was... fine. Memorable, no. But Fine.

Next week on Episode 212 Side B we talk about kids horror, specifically Ernest Scared Stupid. (hey Vern)
