The Give Me Five Podcast: An Uncultured Look at Pop Culture and Nostalgia

Christmas is here and so is a terrible Christmas movie involving gremlins, orcs and orphans! It's the Christmas Dragon! Also on a muich better front (CG-wise) Avatar the Way of the Water is out and Rob had the opportunity to see it. Critics say it brings back the big-movie feel to going to the theater, but what was Rob's opinion.

Omar checked out the historically in-accurate National Treaure show on Disney Plus, and Greg checked out the equally historically inaccurate Weird Al Bio-pic .

For the top 5 this week we ring in Christmas with the funniest Christmas songs!

All this, and our regular shenanigans!

Sylvester Stallone is having a mini renaissance in 2022 first with Samaritan and now with the Breaking Bad meets Sopranos fish out of water show Tulsa King.

Omar reviews the uber-dark Christmas Carol show from 2019 and Rob takes a look at Disney+'s Willow series. Does it have the same feel as the original.

We also discuss the latest streaming news after HBO Max cancels and removes Westworld from streaming. How does removing shows from a streaming platform help the bottom line? Mike Flanagan leaves Netflix for Amazon Prime. What does this mean for the Flaniverse and the great moody shows like Haunting of Bly Manor, Haunting of Hill House, and Midnight Club.

For the top 5 this week we talk about stories that we never need to see on screen again. Batman's parents? We're coming for you.

All this, and our regular shenanigans!

After a short break for turkey eating, we are back talking about a bunch of stuff like Wednesday, Spirited, Slumberland, Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special, Irene Cara, Jason David Frank, team USA, and Warrior Nun.

The top 5 this week is about characters that have been portrayed by different actors. We judge the characters based on the performance of the actors / actresses themselves.

As we all know, Chadwick Boseman, the Black Panther, passed away before filming Black Panther 2. Huge changes had to be made, and a tightrope had to be crossed between respecting the real-life loss and crafting an engaging story. Now, with the release of Wakanda Forever, we ask how successful the movie was relating to the memory of T'Challa and the overall story of the Marvel universe. RIP Mr. Boseman.

In other reviews, Mythic Quest is back for season 3 and The Bastard Son of the Devil himself has seen some decent reviews on entertainment blogs, but will it pass the Rob test?

We also mourn the passing of Kevin Conroy (Batman) and Gallagher (of watermelon fame)

The top 5 this week is all about memorializing the dead. We ask, what are the top 5 "in memorium" moments in film, music, games and TV? This is particularly related to people involved in in the media itself (ie. band members, actors, etc)

All this, and our regular shenanigans!

Blockbuster, one of the few massive corporations that dissolved has had a lot of nostalgia associated with it. When Netflix anounced a show based on the now (almost) dead franchise it was a surprise as Netflix was partially responsible for the death of Blockbuster. Will Netflix ressurect the franchise through this show or kill it yet again?

Tales of the Jedi is a series of animated shorts that tell the story of Count Dooku and Ashoka. We review it and let you know if the 6 episode series hits the mark.

And finally, Netflix's Enola Holmes was a huge hit and the sequal has arrived on the streaming service. Is it as fun as the original?

In honor of Blockbuster, we are going to look back to the past and discuss the businesses and restaurants that we miss.

All this, and our regular shenanigans!

This week the guys discuss The Witcher recasting...they are hoping for the best, beware...Kang is coming, they are looking forward to Season 2 of Sandman, this weeks florida man has a curse put on him, which makes driving a challenge, Rob talks about the great story and game play of Gotham Knights, Omar is more than disappointed with Blacklight, sorry Liam, The School for Good and Evil is the second disappointment of the week, and if you are looking for a great horror anthology, try Cabinet of Curiosities.

Since we had quite a bit of "magic" in this episode, our top 5 of the week is who are the best magic teachers in pop culture?

October is moving fast and this is the final episode before Halloween. There have been a huge amount of releases and as a result, we have doubled our reviews this week.

Rob saw Black Adam and reviews this latest entry in the DC Universe.

The Midnight Club is a different entry in the Mike Flannigan "Flaniverse" but combines 1990s nostalgia, with drama and his signature brand of horror.

The third Halloween sequel / remake(?) / whatever is out and is very polarizing. Are the online denizens just complaining for no reason or do they have a point? (they have a point)

Also the most Florida of Men returns, there are a trio of R.I.P.'s this week (sadly), Rob wonders why the dad (Marlon Wayans) in The Curse of Bridge Hollow and Andor takes us to the fringes of the Star Wars universe,

The top 5 this week is a solo effort, Greg gives us a list of streaming shows and movies you can watch for Halloween!

Spooky season rolls on and with it comes the Hellraiser reboot(?) from Hulu. As with the other Hellraiser movies all eyes are on pain and the cleverly designed Cenobytes. Do the new ones add up?

Rob checked out Last Seen Alive, a new Gerard Butler suspense / crime flick.

Also, after reviewing the fun Grady Hendrix Book, My Best Friends Exorcism, how does the Netflix movie add up.

Had to skip a week due to hurricane Ian flooding one of the host's neighborhoods, but we are back with twice the topics. This week we delve into Hocus Pocus 2 and discuss campiness in horror. Then we continue the live-action Disney train with Pinocchio.

Heading into October we also get spooky with Interview with a Vampire, Dahmer, and the Imperfects.

Then Omar takes us a few years back with Goliath, the Billy Bob Thornton.

We aslo take a little bit of time to discuss Deadpool 3, Wolverine, goats, and the Community movie

Our top 5 is back this week, and this time we are talking about some lesser known monsters from other cultures. Like the Wendigo or the Mayan Camazotz.

All this, and our regular shenanigans!

If a Rob complains on a podcast and we stop recording, will he still be complaining? Rpb went to D23 and due to poor planning on Disney's part, there is less to talk about in the realm of upcoming releases and theme park attractions and more to talk about with letting fans down.

Despite the travel however, he did get a chance to check out Cobra Kai season 5, Devil in Ohio and the book series Fatemarked by David Estes.
