Grab your favorite set of dice, print out some super fresh character sheets and join us on-location for this week's episode...LIVE at the Loch! Join Brooke and Sarah from the newest gaming establishment in the Duluth/Superior area, The Loch Cafe and Games. Have you been looking for a reason to get into Dungeons and Dragons? This is the episode for you. We fae-trap a few unsuspecting gamers (spoilers, we actually knew most of them before the episode...except Landon, who is an ABSOLUTE JOY, by the way) and convince them to share their harrowing tales of adventure, intrigue, and drama. We laugh, we cry, we are devasted by the story of Trinket the Wooden Octopus (RIP). And if you're thinking...hmmm, I'm actually not that into Dungeons & Dragons...FEAR NOT. Our nerdom knows no bounds. We talk video games, streaming, online gaming, Yu-gi-oh! (Sarah may or may not admit that she's a Yu-gi-oh! girlie), Magic the Gathering, World of Warcraft, and so much more.
Thank you to Jessica, Madison, Landon, Joel, and Walker for sharing your stories and spilling the piping hot gaming tea. You made this episode possible. Another HUGE THANK YOU to Matt and Erin Glesner (Sarah's bro and Sis-in-law), owners of The Loch Cafe and Games, for letting us record in your space and for always being tireless supporters of the pod from the beginning. We appreciate you so much!
You can keep up with Landon on Youtube Here and via his Twitch handle @ClearCODM
Also, Matt and Sarah both want to shout out our Mom. Ma...thank you for always believing in us so that we can continuously do all the weird stuff that we have consistently done since childhood. Those Godzilla movie marathons, walks in the forest, and encouragement of who we are shaped us. Thank you so so much.
Sarah would also like to shout out her other brother, Tom, who recently spent literal hours attempting to teach Sarah how to play Magic the Gathering after she willfully refused to learn how to play for over 25 years. You are incredibly patient.
You can support The Loch by following them on Instagram as @thelochcafeduluth and on Facebook or you can check out their website and you should ABSOLUTELY check out the Kickstarter for Matt, Tristan, and Cam's graphic novel MUD here . The Kickstarter for this first installment runs until November 11th, 2023!!
For all the gamer goblins out there that feel like they won't find their D&D party or their raid partners, keep the faith, we're out here. And no matter what happens...remember, goblins...STAY WEIRD!!!

The veil is thinning, Goblins. You might feel it in the air, that crisp chill, the changing quality of the light. That means it's time for one of the most beloved and equally misunderstood celebrations of the year....SAMHAIN!!! Join Brooke and Sarah for a seasonally appropriate chat about the dangers of root vegetables, how to avoid pukkah poop, and the glorious ways that you can bring autumnal holiday traditions into your own home.
We can feel the turning of the Wheel and now is the time to gather your acorns, make those adorable spooky crafts you've let pile up, and prepare a delicious meal to honor your ancestors while you listen to the latest installment of...THE GOBLIN SQUAD!!!!
REMEMBER, GOBLINS: This first round of Goblin Scout Challenges that we offered needs to be sent to us via DM, email, post tags, etc by Halloween 2023 in order to qualify for your free Goblin Scout Badges. After Halloween, we will be changing the format of the scouts and the program offerings. Need a reminder of the challenges:
Identify 10 different birds in your area
Tip, use the Merlin app (not sponsored) to help with identification
It can be hard to photograph birds in the wild, so if you're able to get the pics, that's awesome! But if you can't, don't worry, you can send us the Species name, date, and county location where you saw it. You can type up your list or take a pic of your list and send it to us!
'A Stone Called Steve Austin'
Find a Hagstone (aka Adderstone)
Usually found by water (seashore, lakeshore, dry river beds) - a Hagstone is any type of stone with a naturally occurring hole all the way through it.
Note - Hagstones are amazing protection amulets and can be worn on a string around your neck or carried in your pocket to ward against negative energy.
'Faer BnB'
Find a fae or haunted building or structure in the forest
To complete this challenge, find a stick structure, fairy ring, mossy hollow in a tree, driftwood shelter, or any other locale that could be occupied by either faeries or ghosts out in the forest and send us a pic. We are flexible on this one! So when in doubt, send us a DM.
'2 Craft, 2 Curious'
Use a foraged item in a recipe, craft, or work of art
Here are some ideas, but if you want MORE ideas, make sure to go back and listen to Episodes 11 and 12 for a foraging two parter: Make fried dandelions, a mushroom tincture, dry some flowers, make herb bundles, do some natural clothing dye, whatever your little foragey heart desires. And then tell us about it! Remember, again, safety first. Do not consume anything that you are not 100% certain is edible and safe for you to consume during the course of this challenge.
'Gobby Hobbies'
Which Sarah can never remember but will find the text for and add to these show notes later when she hasn't run out of time. OKAY LOVE YOU, GOBS!

Want to run away to a tamarack bog, create a glorious farm, and surround yourself with donkeys, chickens, and sunflowers? Sonia Horowitz of Amanita Acres has done just that! Join The Goblin Squad on location as we interview Sonia and meet four of the dearest equines around. We get schooled on donkey intelligence, management, and why you absolutely want to avoid getting chomped by their human teeth. Amanita Acres has grown through the hard work and planning of Sonia and her family as they navigate life with livestock in pursuit of their dream farm. From flower growing to a future reindeer herd, Sonia will inspire you to work towards your goals. There is magic in action and this episode may give you the boost to take some mysteriously magical actions of your own. Cackle your way along with us and as always, you know what to do, Goblins…STAY WEIRD!
This episode is decided to L & S, you two are the actual original Goblin Scouts and we never stop telling people how lucky we are to have such amazing junior goblins supporting this podcast. Also...Poultry-geist 4 life.
Program notes:
Sarah mentions in the episode that she’s going to include info on the disease that sheep and goats can pass to cervids. (I’m not going to do that. HA! We will have to look it up together.)
Stay up to date with the happenings on Amanita Acres Here! Bonus: this is where the donkeys are! You can meet Sam, Frodo, Beorn, and Bud through the magic of the tim tams! Go!
GOBLIN SCOUT CHALLENGES: Remember, your chance to earn your first batch of goblin scout button badges only runs until Halloween (October 31st) 2023! Submit your entries to receive your button pack and some free stickers. Check out this POST for challenges.

We’ve all heard the rumors and whether we like it or not, we’ve all repeated them…
It’s URBAN LEGEND WEEK, Goblins! From hookhands to Halloween candy horrors, listen along as we cackle our way through a list of our favorite spooky (and not so spooky) tales from childhood.
Urban legends are the viral videos of the 80’s and 90’s. Before things could spread like wildfire over the sordid back alleys of the internet, they were spread on the school bus, during latchkey, at summer camp, and that’s right, Gobs, even by fax machine. At the time of recording, it is our year of the Gob 2023 and chain letters (what? We thought those died out years ago!) are once again making a comeback. This time, however, it’s in vertical video form and a new generation of youths are experiencing the joys of “Forward this to 5 friends or you will have bad luck for 5 years”. With the return of chain letter superstition, Brooke and Sarah felt like it was time to dust off some old favs and talk slumber party lore. Join us in this hilarious time capsule and see if any of these spooky legends influenced your childhood. You will be shocked by how many urban legends are actually inspired by real world events!
Grab a flashlight, turn off your dome light, and above all else, remember, Goblins….STAY WEIRD!

As requested by you, The Goblins, here it is...THE LAKE MONSTER EP! We are covering four of our favorite aquatic anomalies from the good ol' Midwest. Does Sarah invent radically inaccurate lake dimensions? Maybe. Does it take an embarrassingly long amount of time for her to realize this completely ludicrous measurement? Yes, like a noticeable length of ignorance. But the bonkers measurements just keep coming as we discuss the Devil's Lake Monsters, South Bay Bessie, Hodag, Rocky, and The Beast of Busco. This is possibly one of our favorite episodes to date. Nothing inspires interest in a monster hunt like a lake cryptid sighting. From the iconic 1934 Loch Ness photo to modern movies featuring creatures from the deep, people remain fascinated by the possibility that something terrifying lives beneath the surface of dark waters...
But we didn't pick those monsters!
Listen along as Brooke & Sarah cackle their way through some of the most endearing lake monsters they could find and start a legit obsession with the beloved mascot of Rhinelander, Wisconsin. This episode has facts, it has absolute codswallop, it has Babe Ruth tall tales, and best of all, it has monsters that sound like they were made up by the most creative 1st grader ever.
A serious note from Sarah and Brooke:
Shout out and GIGANTIC THANK YOU to all of you for coming back and listening to our show. We are so grateful for each of you. This show has quickly become an absolutely essential creative endeavor for both of us and we can't believe anyone out there actually listens to us. We are both proud of The Goblin Squad and the authenticity of the community growing around this podcast. If you could do us a solid and boost the signal to get this podcast into the hands of more weirdos like us, that would be amazing. Don't forget to subscribe to the show on your preferred pod platform, and if you have a minute, and could give us a review, that would be amazing. You are the best goblins ever!
OH YEAH, Don't forget about the Goblin Squad Button Challenges running until October 31, 2023 and the "Season One Original Flashsheet" Giveaway! Details for both on Instagram and Facebook, see the links below to follow along. Stay Weird!
