WELCOME TO SEASON 12 Heartlifters! We are starting our "Summer of Slowing Down," and entering into many conversations about new rhythms, a slower pace of living, and contemplative practices that help us find our way to greater peace of mind and quality of life. To help us get our journaling jam on we have Jennifer Dukes Lee, author of "Stuff I'd Only Tell God: A Guided Journal of Courageous Honesty, Obsessive Truth-Telling, and Beautifully Ruthless Self-Discovery. She considers this guided journal "our own little confession booth," and asks us this question: "What would you say if you were completely honest with yourself and with God?"

In Part Two of the conversation with author Nijay Gupta, Janell and Nijay discuss women in the early church, highlighting influential figures like Lydia and Junia. Nijay encourages listeners to follow the breadcrumbs of their faith to find their own ways to serve God's kingdom. Nijay says, "One of the ways that our eyes get in the way of our gifts and our calling is by looking at what we perceive to be limitations, rather than looking at what God has called us to do and who God has called us to be."

Dr. Nijay K. Gupta, author of "Tell Her Story: How Women Led, Taught, and Ministered in the Early Church, leads us into a riveting, remarkable, heart-stopping conversation about the women in the Bible, particularly in the New Testament, who were actively and mightily involved in ministry, at the frontier of the gospel mission, and as respected leaders. It is time for women to rise and take their rightful place in the work and ministry of advancing the kingdom of God. As we close out Season 11's "Let's Be Remarkable Tour," prepare to feel a renewed sense of purpose and power.

In this special Sunday Edition, Janell shares "the state of the heart" of the podcast. Season 11's, "Let's Be Remarkable Tour," closes with two very special episodes with Nijay Gupta, author of "Tell Her Story: How Women Led, Taught, and Ministered in the Early Church." Looking forward, Season 12 brings "A Contemplative Summer," where we journey through beautiful, contemplative practices that will help us all breathe in the slow pace of summer living.

When was the last time you did something "childlike?" Not "childish," but "childlike?" In Matthew 18:2-4 (VOICE), Jesus shares, "This is the truth: unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. In that kingdom, the most humble who are most like this child are the greatest." Those three little words, "unless you change," seem to imply that His disciples...His followers...had some changing to do. In Part 2 of my conversation with Spiritual Director and Author, Lacy Finn Borgo, we continue learning about the 7 directives to becoming more childlike in our faith.

As Season 11's "Let's Be Remarkable Tour" comes to a close, we can't move forward in becoming remarkable humans without talking about our picture of God and how we might limit receiving His love in our lives. Many of us equate receiving God's love with earning God's love through our good works or good behavior. To help us reframe, redraw, and reauthor our picture of God, we have Lacy Finn Borgo, author, and spiritual director, to guide us. In her new books, "All Will Be Well: Learning to Trust God," and "Faith Like a Child: Embracing Our Lives as Children of God," Lacy invites us to consider our picture of God in stunningly beautiful ways. Her words and wisdom invite each of us to take a pause in order to get that picture of God right. When we do, we live our lives from an authentic space that unleashes amazing freedom in Christ.

Sometimes a pause is the most important moment in a beautiful piece of choreography or a magnificent symphonic presentation. Everything stands still for a second or two. This week, we pause in order to take in all of last week's episode with Curtis Chang, author of "The Anxiety Opportunity: Worry is the Doorway to Our Best Self." The wisdom of his words needs to linger. They need space to take root in our hearts and minds and souls. Included is a beautiful time of meditation. Take several pauses this week, as we approach Mother's Day, to gift yourself with a walk or two in our Father's playground...the greatest antidote to the Hijacker of Anxiety.

What if anxiety isn't the enemy but is a doorway to our very best self? May is Mental Health Month, so Season 11's "Let's Be Remarkable Tour," will close out with remarkable conversations about bridging the gaps between faith and mental health. In his new book, "The Anxiety Opportunity: How Worry is the Doorway to Our Best Self," theologian, popular podcaster, and fellow sufferer of chronic anxiety, Curtis Chang, offers a different framework for approaching the common afflictions of anxiety and worry.

Poet David Whyte defines regret as "a short, evocative, and achingly beautiful word; an elegy to lost possibilities even in its brief annunciation...Sincere regret may in fact be a faculty for paying attention to the future, for sensing a new tide where we missed a previous one, for experiencing timelessness with a grandchild where we neglected a boy of our own. To regret fully is to appreciate how high the stakes are in even the average human life. Fully experienced, regret turns our eyes, attentive and alert to a future possibly lived better than our past."
Teaching Pastor Alli Patterson, author of "How to Stay Standing: 3 Essential Practices for Building a Faith that Lasts," shares about a time in her young married life when she made a mistake. In her candor and disarming honesty, she shares her story in hopes of helping each of build a faith that will stand strong during the tests and trials of this life.

Do you have an inner critic or maybe two that try to keep you safe by whispering limiting beliefs in your ear? They hold you back from taking necessary risks that lead you to true freedom and fulfillment. Andrea Mein DeWitt, author of "Name, Claim, and Reframe: Your Path to a Well-Lived Life," shares her remarkable story of transitioning from a 30-year career in academia to becoming a certified life coach. She took a risk. She writes, "Any success story is a tale of constant adaptation, revision, and change." We talk about "shedding old skins" in order to "receive new vision" for our lives and she opens an insightful conversation about "masculine and feminine energy" and how understanding this principle can help us bring a balanced response to all of our relationships.
