The Ian Furness Show episodes

  • Furness H1 - M's win Game 1 / Honoring Ichiro in Japan / More surgeries for Doug Baldwin / Something Good: Jake Olson, Ryan Gerlitz
The Mariners played a game that actually meant something. It happened in the middle of the night and almost nobody in Seattle saw it, but it happened, and they actually won. They had more runs than hits, and pitching on both sides had a tough day, but what matters is they got the win. Ichiro was in the lineup for the game, but was pulled in a moment that almost appeared to be a final moment, although Scott Servais did say he'll play again tomorrow. Regardless of what his future is on the roster, and despite all of the hand-wringing from fans who didn't think he should be on the roster at all, it was a great moment for Ichiro, the organization, and Japanese baseball. Doug Baldwin and Jermaine Kearse joined Cliff Avril earlier this afternoon, and the big news to come out of the interview is that Doug still has more surgeries to come. Still plenty of time for him to get ready for the season. On Something Good, Jake Olson, the blind long-snapper for USC bench presses for Retinoblastoma research, plus Mt. Si's Ryan Gerlitz and his battle to overcome cancer.

  • Furness H2 - Tom Hudson, voice of the Gonzaga Bulldogs / Rob Rang talks wide receivers in the draft / Softy
Another year, another tournament run for the Gonzaga Bulldogs. What does the team look like heading into the tournament, and can they go all the way? We talk to the voice of Gonzaga basketball Tom Hudson about the team. There's a pretty good chance the Hawks are going to look for a receiver to complement Doug Baldwin in the draft. Who might they take? Rob Rang of NFLDraftScout takes a look at some of the top receivers in the class like N'Keal Harry, and other sleepers that might slip to day two or three. Texters call Ian out on his turnaround on Ichiro taking up a roster spot in Japan. Softy is asked who he'd rather see lose more, Gonzaga and Oregon, and Ian chooses between WSU in the Final Four or a New Year's Six bowl.

  • Furness H1 - Mike Hopkins and UCLA / It's Opening Day? / Gary Parrish on the Tournament / Something Good: Jeff Jones, random act of kindness
The NCAA Tournament begins tonight (or Thursday depending on your point-of-view). It's one of those events that everyone, whether they love college basketball and follow it all season long or not, can get excited about, but there's other non-tournament news to talk about as well for fans of Washington basketball. The UCLA coaching job is open. Is there a chance Mike Hopkins picks up and heads to Southern California? We're just a little over 12 hours away from meaningful baseball as the M's take on the A's in Japan. It's weird that it's already Opening Day, it's even weirder that the game is on at 2:30 am. Gary Parrish joins us every week to talk college basketball, and there's no bigger week in the game than this one. Gary discusses the committee's decision making, the team with the best shot at making an unexpected run, how are local teams will do, and his thoughts on Mike Hopkins and UCLA. On Something Good, Jeff Jones, coach of Old Dominion is battling prostate cancer for the second time, bringing awareness to the disease while continuing to push forward with a great attitude. If you're looking for a team with a feel-good story attached, Old Dominion might be your team. Kevin highlights a man who drove a total of 400 miles out of his way to help a couple whose car broke down as they were on their way to see a dying relative.

  • Furness H2 - Will the M's be more or less than 5 games out? / Craig Smith interview highlights / Texts: Hopkins, M's / Softy from The Ram
The Mariners are going through a major rebuilding, but they may not be as bad as many expect this season. They've averaged just a little over five games out of the playoffs over the last several seasons. So, will they be closer or further out than that this season? Utah State head coach Craig Smith was on the morning show, and the interview was so great we decided to play some of it back. Texts at 49451 aren't happy with Ian even suggesting that Mike Hopkins could possibly be looking at the UCLA job, and other texters aren't buying the Mariners. Softy and Dick are at the University Village Ram for their Bracketology and Put Up or Shut Up broadcast. We hear from him about what's on the show this afternoon.

  • Furness H1 - Doing it for fun / Jordy Nelson visiting Seahawks / Letter to the editor gone too far / Something Good: Felix, Thomas Panek
The teams are set, and March Madness officially gets underway Thursday (or tomorrow, depending on how you look at it). Over the next few weeks, you'll hear a lot about the players, whether they should sit out, etc. What all of these pundits seem to be missing is guys like Zion Williamson play because they play the game. They'll have plenty of time to play for money in the NBA, but for now, they're getting a chance to play in the NCAA Tournament, something most kids can only dream of. Right now, they're doing it for fun. The Seahawks are one of a handful of teams taking a look at Jordy Nelson. Yes, he's getting older, but this is the type of receiver they seem to love to test out. Right now, they risk nothing by bringing him in. If it doesn't work out, they can cut him loose. A letter to the editor in the Seattle Time criticizes Felix. That's all fine and good, but the attack gets a little personal and weird, and what's worse is the author hides behind anonymity. On Something Good, Ian reminds us all that over the course of his time in Seattle, Felix Hernandez has done a ton of good here, and it doesn't get talked about much. Kevin mentions a blind runner who ran the New York Marathon using only his Guide Dogs.
