The Ian Furness Show

There are still questions about the new arena, especially the location and transportation issues, but one thing is for sure; this new arena will be a world class arena. Key Arena was good, but it wasn't good enough. This arena will be. Ian caught up with NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman while in Georgia. It's clear that the NHL is excited to be coming here. While the hockey team is building from the ground up, the MLB team is tearing it all down to rebuild. The Mariners aren't tanking, or shouldn't be. Tanking may work in other sports but it doesn't work in baseball. Rebuilding on the other hand does sometimes need to happen, and that's where we are.

Mike Holmgren joins Ian every Wednesday at 2pm. Could he be taking the Packers' coaching gig? ...Probably not. He talks about what makes Green Bay different, and what he didn't like about the McCarthy firing. The Mariners are a mess. There's no other way to say it. Dipoto said at the beginning of the year that the farm system had produced a lot of talent, but he just traded all of that away. Texts come in with thoughts on the M's. Softy and Ian talk about their respective experiences during yesterday's NHL announcement.

Tune in every Wednesday at 2pm to hear Mike Holmgren with Ian Furness on all things NFL and Seahawks. He is brought to you by El Gaucho, Masterpark, 30-10, Tacoma Dodge Chrysler Jeep Ram, Redbox, and by Washington Gold Casinos

We knew it was coming, but it's finally officially official; the NHL is coming to Seattle. The only downside is that we won't get a team until 2021 rather than the originally-proposed 2020, but that isn't a huge surprise either. Now we just have to figure out what to call the team. Ian is down in Georgia at the Board of Governors meeting reporting on this morning's announcement.

Brandon Browner was sentenced to 8 years in prison for attempted murder. It's actually a little shocking how quickly that case went through the system. The Huskies will get the last chance at an Urban Meyer-led Ohio State team as he announces he'll be stepping away after the Rose Bowl. It's kind of amazing he even coached this season after everything that happened. Nigel Burton talks to Gas about the Dawgs' matchup in the Rose Bowl, hopes for a college football playoff expansion, and WSU's falling short of a New Year's Six bowl.

Nigel joins Ian every Tuesday at 2pm talking all things PAC-12 Football courtesy of Georgetown Brewing. Georgetown is Seattle's largest independent brewery making great beer and supporting the community. Makers of Manny's Pale Ale, Lucille, and Bohdizafa IPA's. Georgetown brewing, where good beer equals happiness!

Ian is at the NHL Board of Governors meeting in Georgia, so Mike Gastineau is filling in today. Speaking of said meeting, tomorrow is the big day that, barring something going wrong, Seattle will officially be awarded an NHL expansion team. The Huskies are going back to the Rose Bowl for the first time in 18 years. The Cougs got robbed of a New Year's Six bowl. The Mariners just traded practically the entire team. The biggest news of all right now though is that the Seattle Seahawks are 7-5 and are well on their way to the playoffs. Hugh Millen survives a car wash accident to talk about the Hawks' win and the Dawgs' Rose Bowl trip.

Ian calls into his own show, from the NHL Board of Governors meeting and the likely announcement tomorrow of a new NHL franchise in Seattle. While he's down there, he catches up to Tod Leiweke to discuss the likely big news. During the show, the Mariners have announced the news we've been expecting for a long time; Jean Segura is a part of a package of players going to Philadelphia for J.P. Crawford and Carlos Santana. It's just the latest in a series of trades, including one made official earlier today sending Robinson Cano and Edwin Diaz to the Mets. Softy is upset today despite all the great Husky and Seahawks news. Why? Because his "no Jean, no money" clip is no longer relevant.

Tune in every Monday after the Seahawks play for the best post-game breakdown you'll hear from anybody on what happened to the Hawks.
