Does your weight tell you anything about your thyroid? Absolutely. In fact, because your thyroid regulates metabolism, being overweight is a flashing red light that indicates you may have a thyroid problem.
This is even more true for people with existing issues like hypothyroidism and Hashimoto’s. If that’s the case, does being overweight tell you something about thyroid function? Yes! In fact, it’s a great proxy measurement.
This is one big reason that thyroid patients need to keep track of their weight. But it just so happens that the most common way they measure their weight happens to be the most inaccurate.
If you have a thyroid problem, you need to be tracking your weight, but you need to use the right metrics.
The most accurate include your BMI and your body measurements. These will give you more useful information than your weight on the scale and will actually help you in your journey to lose weight.
