The Imperfect Dads Podcast

For this episodes we decided to do something in honor of Fathers’ day! This episode is about taking your kids to their first sporting events and making traditions out of it.

We have on Bennett Piispanen and father and son Dennis and Tyler Glaser.  Everyone on this call including Justin are Cincinnati reds fans.  Bennett talks about taking his oldest to a reds game and now making it a tradition.  Tyler talks about taking his baby to a reds game this year.  Dennis talks about taking Tyler to a reds game when he was 3 weeks old and how he used season tickets for time to hang out with his sons.  This episode was a lot of fun…but probably even more fun if you’re from Cincinnati.  Happy Father’s Day everyone!

On this episode we have on Joel King from the Wild Feathers.

We talked about sports and his love of baseball and his son playing baseball, people who say having a dog is similar to having a kid, playing music with his son, reflect on who we were in high school, how we discovered new music when you were a kid, his life on tour, his life as a studio musician, and trying to watch shows with your wife at the end of the day. 

In the middle of this episode Justin and to cut out because his kid threw up and he went downstairs to help out.  And we wanted to leave that in the episode because it’s such a realistic moment of being a dad.  Sometimes you hope you get to hang out with friends and then life happens. And so much of this podcast is about real parenting moments it felt wrong to leave it out!

Hey everyone! May is Mental Health Awareness Month. Mental health for dads is a subject that comes up in a good majority of our episodes.  When I was editing and listening through episodes I felt like releasing this episode earlier in our rotation for Mental Health Awareness month made a lot of sense.

This episode is with Mitchell Osmond of Dad Nation.  Mitchell shares his story about how as a dad and husband he reached a point where he felt like he was living a life he wasn’t proud of.  He talked to us about how he changed his habits and routines and how he now coaches dads on how to be more the person they want to be.  In this episode Mitchell talks about the lows he felt when he was at rock bottom, and Justin talks about his struggles with going from 1 kid to 2 kids and all the roles you have to be in fatherhood.  Mitchell also mentions that if you reach out to his company for coaching to make sure to mention that you heard about him on this podcast.

We will say over and over again that one of the points of this podcast is to let dads know they aren’t alone.  Fatherhood makes you look in the mirror and a lot of us don’t like what we see when we do.  We really hope if that’s your story, you know you’re not alone.  There are lots of other dads just like you trying other figure out how to become the dad they want to be.  And if you feel alone talk to a friend, or send us a message.  Fatherhood can feel very isolating, but you aren’t alone.  You’re never alone.  And with that said, we hope you enjoy the episode.

On this episode we have on Dan Layus.  Dan is a musician who creates music under the name Augustana.

We talked to Dan about being a dad to 4 kids, having his oldest go to college, how he helps around the house when home, how quiet hotel rooms can seem, the different anxieity of having kids in his 20s versus his 30s, how he feels like a late bloomer, the energy behind his last album, and creativity.

When we reached out to Dan we were still under the name The Nashville dads and told him we’d be switching to the imperfect dads.  We talked a bit about creating something under different names and the journey of figuring out what name represents you the best.

On this episode we have on Caleb Lindsey.  Caleb is the owner and head strength coach at Hybrid Strength gym in Murfreesboro Tennessee.

We talked about his wife needing multiple eye surgeries when their daughter was born, how much of the early years of a kid you can’t predict, how competitive his daughter is and how smart his daughter is.  Justin didn’t make the beginning of the call and joined in later. We also talked about Caleb’s issues with fertility and about testosterone therapy that he did so they could get pregnant.  Caleb really emphasized how much he knows how he treats his wife and people is how his daughter will think you should treat people, and health overall and what he sees from running a gym.
