As kids we had real needs. And when those needs (appreciation, validation, listening, approval, for example) were not met by our caregivers, they set up a series of suppressed unmet needs.
Because we were kids and didn’t know how to process through these unmet needs to heal the wounds, we repressed them.
So now, we’re adults.
With real needs unmet, from childhood. So what do we do? We begin to chase false needs in the hope of trying to feel safer and happier, unaware that we are doing this to satisfy our real needs.
[In my mentoring work with billionaires, celebrity athletes and startup titans I call this “The Top Performers Disease” and it’s a sad affliction because nothing is ever enough for the person struggling with it because, at the root, the person doesn’t feel enough].
That’s not because you’re not successful enough in the world. It’s because you don’t feel successful inside. And nothing on the outside will fill that hole within.
If you’d like to learn the tools, habits and daily routines of warriors, billionaires, sages and superstars then read (or listen to) The Everyday Hero Manifesto today. It’s a life-changing book. Get it here.
