The J-Talk Podcast episodes

  • Episode 408 - J1 Matchday 5
Jonny Nicol guests on this episode, that we believe sets a new J-Talk record for our longest pod ever, with each top flight team's new arrivals (with the exception of Iwata, sorry (!)) scrutinized.
We begin with the Samurai Blue, who face a crunch World Cup Qualifier away to Australia on Thursday. We debate how Hajime Moriyasu will line his team up in the wake of three players having to withdraw from his initial 27-man squad, with several positions in the first XI seemingly up for grabs (to 13:00).
Then our round-up of J1 kicks off with more Khaos in Kobe, with Atsuhiro Miura shown the door after Vissel made it seven without a win to begin the season after drawing away at Shimizu on Saturday (to 30:20). The rest of Part 1 stays on a Kansai tip, as we cover Gamba Osaka's home defeat at the hands of Fukuoka, Cerezo's home draw with Sapporo, and Kyoto's narrow loss at home to FC Tokyo (to 1:22:55).
Part 2 leads off with Urawa's win over Iwata, and then we work our way through the other four games, including the football, or rather, water polo match at Mitsuzawa last Friday night.

  • J-Talk Extra Time - J2 Matchday 4 & J3 Matchday 1
James Taylor and Jon Steele got together to review J2 matchday 4. They talked about Yokohama FC v Mito (to 6:53), Nagasaki v Oita (6:54 to 12:36), and Machida v Okayama (12:37 to 18:42). There's a roundup of all the other games from last weekend (18:43 to 26:03), and a preview of matchday 5 (26:04 to 31:16). Plus, Magic Mike Innes was on hand to go through all the action from the opening J3 weekend (31:17 to end).

Thanks for listening, and we hope you enjoy the episode!

  • Episode 407 - J1 Matchday 4
After another eventful weekend in the top flight, we review all of the action, beginning with Kobe in Krisis, and Ragged Reds, after both ACL clubs' early season struggles continued.
We then move up to the top of the table, where Kawasaki edged their noses in front by beating Nagoya, while Yokohama F.Marinos had to settle for a point from their trip to Sapporo. From there we round up all of the other Matchday 4 games, including Kashiwa keeping the good times rolling, and a first victory of the new season for Cerezo Osaka.

  • JTET - J3 2022 Season Preview (Part 3)
With the big third-tier kick-off almost upon us, Mike 'Orlando Magic' Innes and Jon Steele convened again to take a look at six more clubs that will be taking part in this season's J3 League.
In the first half of the show, Mike and Jon focused on the Shikoku trio of (gulp) Sanuki, Imabari, and Ehime, and in the second half, turned their attentions to Kyushu, and the triumvirate of Kitakyushu, Miyazaki and Kagoshima. The gents finished off the pod with some overall closing comments and listener questions.
Hope everyone enjoys the show, and the new J3 season!

  • Episode 406 - J1 Matchday 3
It was a great pleasure to welcome Nick Bolton (UKSangaUltra) back to the podcast for the first time in almost three years, to chat about all things Kyoto Sanga.
It had been a long time between top flight drinks for Sanga, and they announced their return in some style of course, with their stirring win over Urawa on the opening day, but since then a draw at Cerezo Osaka, and Saturday's controversy-tinged 4-1 defeat at the hands of fellow promoted side Iwata, has brought them back down to earth. Still, it promises to be a terrific season for Cho Kwi Jae's side, and it was great to get Nick's thoughts on it all (to 33:00).
In Part 2 we work our way through the other eight games from the Matchday 3 slate, with a quick look ahead to this weekend's fixtures to wrap up the episode.
