This is for a county seat. In Huntersville, North Carolina.

Drive-bys are hitting the suburbs now.

And the man quit the race because he didn't want to be killed.

That sentence should make every normal American stop what they're doing.

We are not talking about a presidential campaign. We are not talking about some national celebrity politician with a security detail and handlers who wear earpieces. This was a county race.

And yet the threat was real enough that a man looked at public service, looked at his family, looked at the bullet holes, and said, "No office is worth this."

Democrats should not be smug about that climate. Nobody should.

Because once politics becomes physically dangerous for ordinary people, the country is not debating anymore. It is deteriorating.

And as I said earlier, the modern Left is deranged and dangerous because the ideology creates madness.

When you live a lie long enough, reality becomes the enemy. And if reality becomes the enemy, eventually the people telling the truth become targets.

Communication is the key. I know that sounds trite, but it is a fact. If you can't communicate with somebody, if you can't let them speak openly without judgment or punishment, the relationship won't survive.

And that is what should give people hope: the Left cannot communicate anymore.

It can chant. It can accuse. It can cancel. It can threaten. It can scream into a camera like the Constitution personally stole its bicycle.

But it cannot persuade.

Everybody worships something. For most of us, it’s God.

But for Leftists, it’s Government. Media. Experts. Climate panic. Academia. Bureaucracy. Some people worship the idea of being perceived as “good people” so intensely they’d walk into traffic holding a reusable grocery bag just to prove moral commitment.

But if you hate Trump that passionately, then what exactly are you defending?

The old system? The old order? The pre-Trump arrangement where politicians shipped jobs overseas, started wars nobody could explain, bailed out banks, ignored the border, inflated the dollar into carnival confetti, and then told us the real danger was a guy making mean tweets at 2 AM.

And I always ask them this question: remove Trump’s personality entirely. Pretend his name is Bob Henderson from Accounts Receivable. Just look at policies. What exactly don’t you like?

Fraud

As for the broader political landscape, to paraphrase Scripture, there will be fraud and rumors of fraud.

Every election cycle now follows the same pattern.

Somebody raises concerns.

Somebody else says those concerns are ridiculous.

Then months later everyone discovers the concerns were at least worth discussing.

The real issue isn't whether fraud exists.

Of course it exists.

The real issue is why we're so uncomfortable having honest conversations about preventing it.

Banks don't apologize for security cameras.

Casinos don't apologize for surveillance.

Airports don't apologize for identity verification.

Yet suggest election safeguards and suddenly people act as though you've proposed installing medieval drawbridges around polling places.

Our trust has been broken so often, we trust very little.

Trust isn't created by demanding trust.

Trust is created through verification.

That's true in business.

It's true in relationships.

And it's true in elections.

Last night, America did what America always does after an election. We immediately stopped talking about the voters and started listening to the people who were wrong about the voters.

Here's what I want to know from you.

Did last night actually change anyone's mind?

Did Democrats earn enthusiasm, or merely avoid embarrassment?

Did Republicans demonstrate strength, or simply benefit from voter frustration?

Is Trump still the central figure in American politics because of his supporters, his opponents, or both?

And perhaps the biggest question of all:

If voters across the country continue signaling dissatisfaction, who is actually listening?

It's one of the great traditions of modern politics. Election night ends, the polls close, and suddenly a parade of experts appears on television carrying charts, demographic breakdowns, regression analyses, and enough certainty to make a weather forecaster blush.

Everybody wants validation.

The Left wants proof that Trump is finished.

The Right wants proof that Democrats are morons who only know how to vote against something, even if that something is worth having.

Consultants just want proof that their invoices should continue to be paid.

And the media? They just want proof that somebody is still watching.
