Epilepsy in children encompasses several syndromes that have different prognoses but are all characterised by a predisposition to recurrent seizures; therefore, treatment has to be tailored to the individual. Any treatment regimen for children with epilepsies should have rational goals, take into account the additional morbidities that are commonly found in these patients.
