This time we delve back into the world of the detective novel, but in a very different way, via the great Argentinian writer, Jorge Luís Borges! We read The Death and the Compass, an amazing short story, that messes around with everything we talked about last time on the Analytic Detective!
It's a very fun conversation, and despite having lots of literature talk, we managed to get into politics, of course. We hope you have fun, just like we did in various labyrinths of language, together with detectives and criminals.
Stories we talked about in this episode:
The Death and the Compass - http://art3idea.psu.edu/metalepsis/texts/death-compass.pdf
Tlön, Uqbar, Orbis Tertius;
The Aleph.

This episode we talk about a very recent short story by an up and coming Brazilian author, Geovani Martins!
It's a very... wild conversation, one might say. We reflect on disabilities, police violence and marginalization in Brazil. Slightly shorter, but in incredibly important discussion!

That out of the way, be warned, it's a somber and intense episode, if a little all over the place! We talked about a short story by Mikhail Bulgakov, The Red Crown!
In it we discuss fragility of human beings, trauma, madness and war. It was a complicated and difficult conversation, but a very good and positive one, ultimately! Hopefully you'll enjoy it and get something out of it too!

In this special, and convenient, May Day episode, we talked about James Joyce's "The Dead"! It's an incredible, and intimate, conversation on how to relate to where you're from, about love and, ultimately... The dead. It's a very fun and personal talk for the both of us, but after all, it's an intimate short story, so it makes sense! Hope you find it interesting and useful!!
So sit back, relax, and join us as we go through past, present and future, on pain and death, in this episode filled with our love and care!

This time we talk about the Detective Novel! It's origins, some of it's first manifestations, and the first paradigm of the Analytic Detective! It's a very fun discussion on how violence can be portrayed and we also talk a lot about how detective stories are stupidly popular!
We go to some wild places this time, so sit back, relax, and enjoy the ride! We also experimented a bit more with the editing, so hopefullt it works well and is quite interesting too!

This time we talk about another short story, but by the renowned Fyodor Dostoyevsky! It is "The Dream of a Ridiculous Man", an incredibly interesting and peculiar reading that leads us to talk about writing, literature, dreams... It's a strange one all right!
We had a lot of fun with this one, despite it being a much more abstract talk, it was a fun one, and don't worry, we'll be talking more about politics soon, for sure!

In this episode we tone it down a bit and look at a single short story, "The Case of the Stick" by one of the greatest Brazilian authors of all time, Machado de Assis!
We talk about slavery in Brazil, some of the many faces of inequality and racism here, and go off on fun and interesting tangents about labor, sociology and modern capitalism.
