The Living Artist episodes
- Video Killed The Audio Star?
In this episode of The Living Artist podcast, Preston takes a leap into the brave new world of video podcasting! In a bit of a full-circle moment, and perhaps with a little help from some artificial intelligence, The Living Artist is finally making its video debut. He dives into the rapidly evolving world of AI, video creation, and the importance of embracing new technologies as artists and creators. Taking a page out of David Bowie's playbook, and his remarkably forward-thinking approach to the internet, he explores what it means to recognize the future while still remaining true to your artistic identity. Along the way, he discusses experimenting with AI-generated video versions of past podcast episodes, the opportunities (and potential pitfalls) of these emerging tools, and why sometimes the greatest creative risk is simply refusing to evolve.
Preston also gets personal about the challenges of continuing to create while navigating his ongoing battle with chronic illness. Will video become a permanent fixture of The Living Artist podcast? Only time, technology, and a little bit of health will tell! So, let's explore the intersection of art, technology, adaptation, and the ever-changing landscape of creativity. The future is coming, whether we're ready for it or not. Enjoy!

14 min - To Be or Not To Be; An Artist or Creator
In this episode of The Living Artist podcast, Preston dives into the increasingly blurry distinction between being an artist and being a creator. In a world of content, algorithms and the ever-expanding “creator economy,” does the language we use to describe ourselves actually matter? Preston explores what these different labels can mean for our identity, intentions, relationship to our work and even the way we show up creatively in the world. Maybe you’re an artist. Maybe you’re a creator. Maybe you’re even a bit of both. This episode could help you rethink how you define yourself, your creative practice and the role you want your work to play in the world. Enjoy!

19 min - An Intuitive Approach
In this episode of The Living Artist podcast, Preston dives into the idea of taking a more intuitive approach to your art—and your life. In a world that constantly encourages us to analyze, strategize and overthink our next move, he explores what can happen when we quiet some of that noise, pay closer attention and begin trusting the signals coming from within. Intuition isn’t about abandoning thought, preparation or technique. It’s about developing another creative muscle and learning when to follow what feels alive, interesting or meaningful—even when you can’t completely explain why. Sometimes we just need to break free from negative thought loops and "sunk cost fallacies". This approach could help you loosen your grip, reconnect with your instincts and bring greater freedom, authenticity and possibility into both your life and creative practice. Enjoy!

16 min - Youmaxxing?
In this episode of The Living Artist podcast, Preston dives into the idea of “youmaxxing”—the ongoing practice of becoming the strongest, healthiest and most fully realized version of yourself. Taking inspiration from the ridiculousness of the many “maxxing” trends circulating today, he explores what happens when we stop optimizing for other people’s approval and begin focusing on the qualities, habits and creative choices that make us uniquely ourselves. This isn’t about perfection, comparison or trying to become someone else. It’s about paying attention, making intentional improvements and bringing more of your authentic potential into your life and art. Listen with a willingness to take an honest look at where you are, and where you might still grow. This idea could help you approach your life and creative practice with greater purpose, confidence and self-awareness. Enjoy!

18 min - Letting Go
In this episode of The Living Artist podcast, Preston dives into the difficult—but essential—practice of letting go. From our attachment to expectations, outcomes and old ways of seeing ourselves, he explores how holding on too tightly can keep us stuck in life and in our creative practice. Letting go doesn’t mean giving up—it means loosening our grip, trusting the process and creating space for something new to emerge. Listen with an open heart and mind. This episode could help you release what is no longer serving you and move forward with greater freedom, presence and possibility. Enjoy!

20 min - Be The Hero Of Your Story (A Solosode Mash-Up)
As Preston continues to battle with his health struggles and setbacks, we bring you another special mash-up episode that is meant to inspire you to the max. We hope to bring you a new episode next week!
In this special Solosode Mash-Up episode of The Living Artist podcast, Preston pulls together three past episodes around the theme of being the hero of your own story (all taken from season 2 of the pod). He explores taking responsibility for your life and creative path, finding and trusting your own unique voice, and ultimately becoming more intentional about the story and mythology you are creating around yourself and your art. This episode is a reminder that you don’t have to be a passive character in your own life. You can take the reins, make the choices, and help write the story as you go. Enjoy!

21 min - Be The Signal, Not The Noise

19 min - Find The Hook
In this episode of The Living Artist podcast, Preston uses the magic of the Ice Beanie to both power through an episode, but also as as a "hook" to get him inspired. This was the impetus for this episode in general and Preston expands on different types of hooks that we can explore in both our creative blocks and in our artistic practice in general. Enjoy!

15 min - From The Vault: Be A Witness To Yourself
While Preston continues to battle his illness, we bring you a fairly recent and special hidden episode of The Living Artist from "the vault". In this episode, Preston talks about one of the most important skills we can develop as artists and human beings; being a witness to our own thoughts and mind. It is also an episode about cultivating "radical awareness" about objective reality as well as the realities we create in our own minds and lives. If we can master this concept and skill, we can truly do anything. Enjoy!

21 min - Create Gallery Success
In this episode of The Living Artist podcast, Preston uses the magic of the Ice Beanie to power him through an episode about creating gallery success. More specifically, how to come up with stronger themes, or stories behind the body of work we will be showing, or planning to show or pitch to a gallery. He uses examples from his and other artist's lives and shows, to illustrate this point even better. We hope that you get some solid inspiration that you can apply to your own art and exhibitions.
