  • The Disappointments - Rich Burns & Trevor LaPaglia 11-12-2021
Meet the stars and the creator of the new darkly comic web series, The Disappointments in The Locher Room. Joining me for the hour is the writer, director and star Rich Burns along with his co-star Trevor LaPaglia.

The Disappointments follows of group of close friends in their 50’s who, rocked by the suicide of one of their own, are forced to face the failures and disappointments in their own lives.

Based in part on actual events, this new series looks at a pivotal issue people face as they navigate their 50’s: What do you do when you realize that time is running short, the road behind you is longer than the road ahead, and your job, your marriage, your relationship with your kids, your life has not turned out at all the way you had hoped and planned when you were young?

In the show, the characters take action. Most of it ill-advised. Some of it straight-up disastrous. All in the hopes of turning their disappointing lives around.

This web series aims to be unique by featuring gay men in their 50s dealing with the fallout from faltering careers and empty bank accounts and generally scrambling to figure out how to set themselves up to survive in the decades yet to come.

As a gay man in his 50's myself, I can't wait to talk with Rich and Trevor about The Disappointments and find out more about their journeys to this very funny new series. Please come and hang with the three of us.

  • Patrick Mulcahey - Interview 11-11-2021
Nine time Emmy Award-winning soap scribe Patrick Mulcahey will join me in The Locher Room to look back at his incredible career writing for many of your favorite daytime dramas. As Patrick tells it, "I was having a fine misspent youth in 1979, writing plays and waiting tables in New Orleans, when a call came asking: Would he be interested in writing for Search For Tomorrow? Sure, I said. “What is it?”

Patrick has written for Another World (briefly), Texas, Guiding Light (twice), Loving, Santa Barbara, General Hospital and The Bold and the Beautiful, two short-lived primetime series, and two MOWs (Movies of the Week). Patrick earned his first Emmy win at Guiding Light working where he was working side by side with Douglas Marland until Douglas left the show. 40 years after his start at Search for Tomorrow, Patrick left The Bold and the Beautiful at the end of 2019 and in his post-soap pandemic shutdown life, he’s writing plays nobody’s seen (no eyeballs in shutdown theaters), submitting to contests nobody’s heard of (won three of them, though), and enjoying the wilds of the North Cascade Mountains in Washington state, where he lives quietly and happily with his husband, who’s also named Patrick Mulcahey, to the amusement of everyone but TSA. (In Patrick's words)

Don't miss the chance to catch up with this talented and prolific writer.

    TANGO SHALOM

Tango Shalom is an interfaith comedy dance movie about “Rabbi Moshe Yehuda” (Jos Laniado), who enters a televised Tango competition to save his Hebrew school from bankruptcy. There is only one problem: because of his religious tenets, he can't touch a woman! He seeks the help of a few advisors, a Catholic priest, a Muslim Imam, and an Indian Mystic, to hash out a plan to help Moshe enter the competition without sacrificing his sacred beliefs. A heart-pumping and heartwarming fable that tests the bonds of family, community, and the bounds of tolerance and faith… one dazzling dance step at a time.

Tune-in to The Locher Room for a very special episode dedicated to the international non-profit charitable organization, Twist Out Cancer. If you or anyone you know has been touched by cancer like I have, you won't want to miss this episode.

Twist Out Cancer provides psychosocial support to individuals touched by cancer through creative arts programming. The organization was founded on the principle that when you share, the world opens up. Its signature program is Brushes with Cancer, which is a six month program that matches those touched by cancer with artists to create a unique piece of artwork that reflects on their personal journey with cancer. Brushes with Cancer strategically matches artists with those touched by cancer to create unique pieces of artwork reflective of their journey. Over a period of 4 months, pairs will connect virtually and their relationships are guided and supported by Twist Out Cancer mentors with the intention of creating a support system for both the artist and inspiration. The program finishes on a high note with our signature celebratory art exhibition, gala and auction where the artwork is revealed for the first time.

Joining me for the show is August Spree who is a cancer survivor herself. She met her partner Brad Young, who served as her artist for her Brushes with Cancer experience. August was so moved by this experience, she joined the Board of Directors for Twist Out Cancer and now serves as the Director of Programs. For this, she is the driving force for the planning and execution for the Brushes with Cancer programs. This includes everything from matching up Inspirations and Artists to work together as part of the program and planning for the annual events.

In addition to August, you will meet Artist Sara Zielinski who is working with Inspiration Pam Oliver, who lost her daughter to cancer. We will hear how Sara got involved and Pam will discuss what Twist Out Cancer calls, "The Reveal" which is always a very emotional experience for all involved.
